  1. I believe that's the general consensus - the compass tell us which way we are going
  2. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and of course now the loss of a neighbor. Of course, the neighbor couldn't have been much of a contribution to the neighborhood if his idea of a pet is a menace. Again, I feel your loss.
  3. If I came down, I'd already have my ride in - but a smoked sausage cooked over wood is pretty hard to beat, besides I'm going to be in DC this weekend. Have a great camping trip !!
  4. don't want to sound like a smart a$$ but the first thing I would do is check for power at your selected source with a test light. If you have none, and I suspect you don't, use another ground. If no power then, check fuse, replace and start over. also - are you doing this with the key on ?
  5. Sylvester - we are leaving Friday also and are staying at the Residence Inn on Blacklick Road. We aren't going as a rep of any group but most of us ( 9 ) are members of North American Plus 40. Our lead bike has been there more than several times, so I'm confident that we won't get lost more than anyone else. I don't have a room # yet but give me a call - 330-754-5640 when you get there.
  6. I guess I'm old school (to a degree) - don't have any idea what FB is all about, and really don't care.
  7. This is what I have on my 07 Venture http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-MUFFLER-PIPE-TAKEN-OFF-ROAD-KING-/170113821674?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item279b92ebea#ht_1132wt_1145 I believe any RK muff ending with part # 98 -98A or 95 - 95A will work. I drilled out the 'frost' plug in the front and back. For less than $100 you can play till your hearts content.
  8. there's some serious mechanics -
  9. You can probably find a stock set of NEW RK's on ebay for less than $100 delivered. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harley-Road-King-OEM-Mufflers-/190398982047?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c54a9e79f#ht_500wt_1160 This set is not new but a good looking pair and there were several others as well - -
  10. evidently "SHE" doesn't read this board
  11. First_N_Last - are you going to make it up to Freebird's MD this year ?
  12. One of the secrets to a successful relationship -- agree to go to your local Players Guild with her and enjoy "Little Orphan Annie" live on Saturday evening. I must be loosing more than my hair !!
  13. A friend of mine has been married and divorced 5 time - slow learner ? I guess so BUT he has decided that instead of marriage again, he's just going to find some woman he can't get along with and buy her a house ! saves a lot of time and aggravation -
  14. But Boomer - it was a REALLY nice boat - and at the time I didn't even have a street bike. That was 20 years ago
  15. I'm changing oil AGAIN ! Last spring I changed to Amsoil, bike seemed to be OK, then it started 'whining' again so I bought a quart of MotorCoat and added a few ounces. The 'whine' got louder but I let it go until this year. After the few rides I've been able to do so far (about 300 miles) it seems like the 'whine' is still there and VERY annoying. Right now the bike is sitting in the garage dripping, has been for 20 minutes or so. I'm going back to Mobile One and NO Motorcoat - see how that does on the ride to DC this coming weekend. I guess I should qualify the above statement - my habits include camping with our Travel Trailer, fishing and I work a part time job. All of that means that I may get around 3 or 4 thousand miles a year. Changing oil twice a year IS expensive when it's $10 a quart and not enough miles to warrant a change.
  16. When I met my wife she was the proud owner of a boat and fishing poles. It was love at first cruise Then I had to convince her that motorcycles were not as bad as her mother said they were. I WON !! :clap2:
  17. I have a spoiler that I bought last year but couldn't make myself drill the deck lid and cover my pin stripes. I bought it as a close out, don't remember where but it will strobe or light solid, depends on how you wire it. later today I'll get a picture of it for you btw - it's not one of the $250 units
  18. Bigdog - when I first started riding on the street, I rode with leo's. I was an honorary Blue Knight for several years because of my relationship with leo's - several of them were neighbors. Thus my respect for law enforcement.
  19. Bigdog - you are ABSOLUTELY right. That incident happened 20 years ago, and our conversation was in the cruiser. You may not remember when the leo would say - come back to the cruiser on the passenger side. He checked my record? if that's what they do when they call in my DL # I had no record, wasn't drinking and had nobody to come get me or the car. Another thing, I was only 6 or 7 miles from home. Like I said earlier - First thing I did was admit guilt (fault) and was ready to take my ticket.
  20. Ruffy - I've only had the wind wings for 6 months or so, hard to believe it took so long to get them mounted.
  21. Yes - I can't wait till you start your maintenance program. Changing the air filter is about a 3 hour affair. Wings are a great bike but a maintenance nightmare.
  22. I think the reason I don't have any points on my license is just because of the above statement. I've been stopped and ALWAYS in the wrong and the first to admit it. I got stopped once for speeding and when the trooper got up to the car I asked " where were you hiding ? That particular time my drivers license had been expired for over a year and I was speeding. He sent me home w/o a ticket - told me to drive slow and careful.
  23. I have to argue that statement just slightly. Several years ago I had been hours looking for our son that was on his way back home from Ohio State. His car broke down and the directions didn't take us to him. Anyway, after several hours of frustration we were finally on the road with his car on a roll back. Traffic was fairly heave and we got separated form the truck and when I got a chance I floored it and went around a 50 mph vehicle in a 65 mph zone. Problem was, no turn signal and speeding. The State Patrol was sitting in the median watching me. "She" pulled me over and I wasn't my usual charming self. I told her in rough verbal language was had transpired that day and she took my license and went back to the patrol car. Upon returning, her first question was 'were you wearing a seat belt ?' I chuckled and said 'Oh crap, a speeding ticket, lane change ticket and now a seat belt violation. No, I responded, I wasn't wearing a belt. This has been a GREAT day." To which she said ' - I know you weren't, I could see when you passed me, tell what I'm going to do - had you lied to me, I was going to write you for speeding, lane change w/o a signal and the seat belt. Since you've already had enough going on today and you didn't lie, I'll give you the seat belt violation and you can mail it in. No point, no foul. I thanked her and we left.
  24. just curious - everybody has their own comfort level --
  25. Not to be a sissy but a sustained 80 to 85 mph on a bike is for what reason ?? If you're in that much of a hurry, you should have left earlier. I can't seem to find the safety factor -
