Thanks - I wasn't sure about his intimate knowledge of oils
-
Ok - here's we go again. I was told that once I used Synthetic, I couldn't go back to regular oil. Should they have said SHOULDN'T ? instead of couldn't ?
-
I'm REALLY fortunate (I think ) in that our local yammy shop is a small one (4 mechanics) and I know the big bike mechanic as well as the 'hands on' owners. I talked to them once about it (the basket) but didn't insist on anything. Mark took my bike for a ride and said that it didn't seem to be any louder than some and not as loud as many. When I get back from Potato Creek, I'll take the bike up and have another talk with them. They said today that they weren't very busy so maybe it'll be a welcome repair. At this point, I'm convinced that my bike doesn't respond to different oils like some have said that their bike does. Here's the real killer, I've owned this Venture 2 1/2 years and I've changed the oil 6 times. Not bad for a traveler, but I've only put 7000 miles on it in that time.
-
Well I just changed the oil AGAIN !! I looked for shell Rotella T at Wally World, didn't have it. As a matter of fact this particular store wrinkled their nose when I asked about motorcycle oils. Went to my local Yamaha store and the parts clerk said that they use Suzuki 4 cycle synthetic Motorcycle racing oil in their shop for those that want synthetic and don't want to pay $20 a quart for YamaLube. So, guess what I put in this time ?? still has a whine and a chirp but I only got to go a couple miles for a test. I did notice that the whine is toned down somewhat (still at 55 mph) but I'll find out on a longer ride. I'll talk to my yammy mechanic in a week or so and see about getting a new "I" basket.
-
That's about the way I feel, I can put gas in it and change the oil - after that I'm pretty much lost

right now I using Mobile 1 10W40 and I drained the motorkote out last year - motorkote ? biggest waste of $50 yet, for me anyway. btw - if somebody uses motorkote and wants to buy ( CHEAP ) all but 3 or 4 oz of a 1 quart jug - look me up at Potato Creek
-
I've been changing oil twice a year with about 1000 miles between. Last year I changed the oil and put in amsoil with the MotorKote additive. The whine became unbearable at 55-60 mph so I dumped it out and put mobile 1 back in. Now the whine is guaranteed to show up at 55mph and yesterday a chirp showed up. Tomorrow I'm going to change oil again and this time I'm going to put Mobile 1 20w50 in it. It's really getting aggravating when people on the street stare at you and I know I'm not THAT unattractive, nor is my Venture. If anybody has any theories on this I sure would be willing to try them. I haven't bought the oil yet but I will tomorrow. My plan is to have a nice ride or 2 at Potato Creek w/o people staring at my bike because of the whine Thanks in advance

if we don't get the feeder out on the porch soon enough in the spring, we catch them hovering and seemingly staring in the kitchen window. Our formula for the feeder is 1 cup of hot tap water and stir until dissolved 1/4 cup of table sugar. When that is gone I rinse the container, scrub the beak openings and start over. Long story about the tat

Squidley - my first encounter with you was @ MD 2009, you sync'd my carbs and complimented my 'new' 2 tone Venture. In my estimation, you will have to make some SERIOUS life style changes before I will EVER call you ( what's embroidered on your hat ) Have a great day, what ever your decision is - :smile5: btw - I changed my screen name because of a tattoo - I'll tell about it when we meet again

Help - Grease for Spline
Hummingbird replied to JCB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
where was all this info when I was told that moly 60 was the only way to go gheeeeezz -
I've been thinking about another trike. I had 2 GoldWing trikes, a '92' & a '98' - loved them both. If I do go trike again, it'll be my Venture with a Hannigan that somebody else installed.

Help - Grease for Spline
Hummingbird replied to JCB's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
JCB - when it was time to grease my splines, it was recommended that I use Honda Moly 60 paste. I ordered mine on line but most likely any Honda shop would have some. -
Heck - I'll go with you I deliberately stay out of politics, I don't have enough money to keep up ( maybe I can get a grant ? ) Health Care ? I'm 67, I do believe that Congress and the Senate should have the SAME health care we have. Guns ? I believe in gun Control !! My definition of gun control is HITTING what you aim at !!

From what I'm reading, there are some that wouldn't put a CT on their bike for love nor money. That's why we live in America, we have a choice. Then there are those that did put one on and ride their bike like they were on a closed race course, again, their choice of riding style. Doesn't make them a bad person, just an individual. And, there are those that have a CT and are comfortable with the handling and everything else related to their bike. This forum makes it possible for us all to voice an opinion without ( hopefully ) upsetting any particular person because believe it or not, every post has an important message for SOMEONE here.

Businesses are there to make a living for employees as well as make a profit for investors. Now having said that - this particular dealer is evidently in a hurry to retire with his/her/their ill gotten gain. Sorry about your mis-fortune

we had a Toy Hauler a while back, take the bike out and a queen size bed pulled down about half way. It was a full Travel Trailer, Shower, toilet 2 door fridge, etc. it also had a 20 gallon fuel tank with 12v pump and hose. looked just like a gas station. Really liked it except for climbing the ladder to get in and out of bed. I hated that at 3 in the morning, needless to say it's gone, replaced it with a standard TT and a Rampage lift. surgery on monday
Hummingbird replied to Grandpagak's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Good luck with your surgery 440 to 195 WOW -- I'm at 211 and keep wishing for 180 again but alas bad eating habits prohibit weight loss. -
I guess I've been lucky - I've allowed the same bank to handle my money for over 20 years. Before them, I had the same bank for about 15 years - I only changed because they got ate up by a conglomerate. In 1980 I got a real estate loan without filling out an application - simply asked the VP for 40 grand, he said OK and transfered the money to my checking A week or so later a loan officer called and said I had to come in and fill out an App. said it was a law or something.

I've got the 550 with the puck as well as lifetime update card. been thinking about getting the 665 and use it in the Silverado as well. If I do that, I've also got a nuvi 1490 with lifetime update card I'll sell. Don't know how to handle the XM then since it's in the truck as well as the zumo probably have to leave it in both - not that much anyway.

Oil Filter cross reference
Hummingbird replied to Hummingbird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I haven't been here as long as most, I thought I was helping. I apologize for the redundancy -
Doesn't bother me in the least - remember how much pressure ( and Dawn ) it took to get yours to seal ??
