although many here have the "legal" right to carry, there is a very fine line that can be crossed easily that will make the victim appear to be the perpetrater. A personal history, witness accounts - so many things come into play. The most solid advise has been mentioned a couple times - tuck your tail and leave. Then and ONLY then will a person survive unscathed. The point is - retreat, retreat, retreat and then you become the VICTIM should you be attacked. That's when you get to show the perpetrater what the outgoing end of a projectile dispensing hand held unit looks like. Problem is that some out there aren't smart enough to understand that it might be the last thing they see -

I scanned the rules of the flight but I couldn't find a time limit - or is there one ?

You are evidently a fine negotiater - It appears that your ins. co. paid you damages and not a total value for the bike. When a vehicle is totaled it is then a Salvage vehicle, bike or car. If you have your bike with a clear title, then it wasn't totaled. Good on you !!

there's a GREAT big differance between STATED value and retail value. If something is insured for a stated value then the premium would reflect that value. If a person insures for retail value as everybody does with the exception of classic, historical etc. then that is what generally happens. As well, if a person thinks that their bike is worth a lot more than retail value it should be insured as such.

I just looked up the value of a 1984 Venture Royal using KBB in excellent condition it's worth $1790.00 - have you looked at liability ONLY insurance ?

OK - got the CB and antenna installed as well as the 4.5 degree triple tree. OMG - what a difference the 'rake' made. With the trike kit on and the factory stem bearings torqued at 55ft.lbs. it still had some head shake on any rough or irregular pavement. The MotorTrike 4.5 degree tree had to be torqued to 38ft. lbs to attain the 3lb dead pull but now there is no head shake at all.

yep, sooner or most likely later, some people will realize that the roses have a much better aroma when you take the time to notice

It was nice to see you and Lonna again. Too bad things were so hurried, maybe the next time we can go next door and try one of their "hellofaburgers"

I found out a long time ago that 3 wheels takes a lot of stress out of a ride - for both riders We've had rain up here for several days

New to Trike...questions.........
Hummingbird replied to DragonRider's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
Lewis - 20lbs in the rear is just fine. I have a friend that runs 18 - so you can start with the rear tire pressure and start finding the sweet spot with your air bags. Maybe a place to start would be to let enough air out to allow the bike to 'squat' just slightly when you get on. That'll be too little air but a good starting point. It'll change when you go 2 up - and of course how much make up is in your tour box oooops - did I say make up ?? -
Thanks - got it installed and the antenna tuned. I found a used 4.5 degree MotorTrike triple tree on ebay the other day. Came off an 1800 that was getting "customized" - low low miles $375 +$20 shipping + $200 to install.

you're right -- pretty easy to register but 12 or 14 hours and they don't know I'm there yet. can't post or respond to threads

So Lewis - do you think that maybe your money was well spent ??

If our winter here in Ohio is close to last year, I'm gonna be happy. Can't ride but I didn't have to shovel any snow, that's a GREAT big plus. OK - maybe I should have shoveled some snow but there's a guy around the corner that needs a little income everyonce in a while and it just happens to coincide with snowfall
-
DragonRider - I'm REAL happy that you like it, I was worried you might be disappointed with the overall looks of the Trike, we all know the price was sooooo right

My camera has a "not so purty" chip built into it - it's a special edition Sony

Well, Squidly and Lonna stopped yesterday with an empty bike trailer behind their suv so we loaded Dragonrider's '93' Trike on it. They left around 3:30 and was headed South. I suspeck that sometime this afternoon we should all hear a loud whooping and hollaring coming out of the Atlanta Ga. area - That'll be Lewis screaming as he tries to get all of the ratchet ties off his trike so he can ride it.

I already know that it takes a "special" 40mm socket that runs about a dollar a mm to buy it. Then you need a 3/8 drive torque wrench as well as a digital scale to test for proper torque. I'm really leaning toward a local shop (that is not a Honda dealer) does work on all types of bikes. He's a retired mechanic from Timken and has a thriving bike tire and "fix-it" shop. I'm really hesitant to 'join' another bike group - I totally happy here. btw - look at what Jaybird did to my bike in the thread 'neighborhood'

Look who stopped while in the neighborhood

Bob - next time you're in the area give me a days notice, I'll see if he can take care of it. I know he will, it's just a matter of whether he's in the state or not. He finished my trike just moments ago and according to law, here's some pics
