    This just started a few days ago. I shut her down for a few minutes and when I restarted her, it all began......:fiddle:This is my first motorcycle, so I am not very savvy when it come to repairs on her. Do you know if the manual says how to drain the carbs? If so, then i will need to get my hands on one.

    Good morning all, I am having an issue with RPMs (I think). I was out riding around and everything seemed great and then I lost the "umph" from first gear. It acts like it wants to die at an idle and I basically have to wrap the throttle around just to get going at a normal pace. When it gets to just above 2000-2500 RPMs, it takes off and almost leaves me behind . So far, I have replaced the plugs and am running Seafoam in the gas and the oil. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I should go next? Thank you, Clay:bang head:

    Thank you for you input. I do have one more question......Has anyone used an 11/16" scrench in place of 18mm 6 point plug socket? Will it fit? Figured I would ask before I spent the time trying to track one down. Thanks again, Clay:usa:

    That is really good idea. never thought to use rubber hose. I found a tool kit for a 650XS, do you know if this is compatable with 83 Venture, 18mm spark plug?

    I know that this is an older thread, but I have run into an issue with getting my 18mm spark plug socket into the front well:soapbox:. It fit the rear well just fine. I do not have grinder to grind down my socket. If I were to purchase a tool kit, would there be a tool in there accomidate the 18mm spark plug? If not, what would be my best way to go? Thanks, Clay

    I have a question in about the charge level of my battery.....is it normal for the battery charge indicator on the dash to go almost to the red zone when I hit the foot brake? The hand brake shows a minor pull on the battery, but when I hit the foot break, it is almost like there is a direct short some where. Is this normal or do I possibly have an issue? Thank you for any input you may have. Clay

    Thank you very much, that sounds like a great idea. It turns out, my class display lights up (was a blown fuse ) , but that is all it does. The LCD screen was damaged by the battery acid, so I am unable to read anything on the display. My concern now is that, yes I have a power indication, but nothing else. No compressor or noise of any sort...... Am I missing something? Where should I look next?

    Yammer Dan, you wouldn't happen to know the part number for the walmart one by chance? I looked through the catalog for their brand of batteries a couple of days ago and it said they did not make a battery for the 83-85 VR.

    Thank you very much. I did call autozone and they qouted me about $87. With the holidays coming, I am a little short on cash and was kinda hoping something a little cheaper. I know that is hoping for a little much......

    Does anyone know if there is a place where I a list of parts compatability between different VR year models? I am looking for a windscreen for a 83vr 1200 and am wondering if one off a 86VR 1300 would work. I also need a battery. Does anyone know where I could get a descent one for a descent price?     As a matter of fact, the entire right side took a hit. All of the plastice and the motor. Still haven't descided how to clean it all up yet though. How difficult would it be to ride without air? This is my first motorcycle, so I figured I would make a Venture Royale

    I tried it with the key in the ACC position and there was nothing. Here is the story on the bike....The previous owner had it stored in a storage container (on its kick stand) during Hurricane Ike. The storm rocked the container and caused the bike to fall over. By the time they found the bike, most of the battery acid had poured accross the controller. Now the display has a bubble in it and does not function. I was mistaken about the compressor coming on with a switch, turns out it was just the manual fan switch. Long story little shorter.......... I believe my controller is bad and was wondering if anybody had one for sale.

    I believe the display is just not working. There is a switch to turn on the compressor and it does. The controller has no indication of functioning.

    I just purchased my 83 VR and the class controller is busted. I found one for a 86-93 VR and was wondering if it was interchangable? Please help.
