He's the best.....I change tires at least once a year and he is the man. It rings at his place in Ohio and Cedar Rapids at the same time....Ask for TJ....I love the Venoms and have had 3 set's...   2. I usually tighten them till they break then back them off 1/8 turn LOL
  3. I have found that if you are as silly as me and try hard enough you can run out of gas. If you do run out on reserve just do this and you can get another 2-3 miles. I pull off the interstate [or coast dead as my case] then gently lay the bike on left side till front and rear crash bars touch the ground....pick it up and it will start and get you to a close station.....I'm 61 and have a bad back from MX racing years ago but our Ventures pickup real easy.   4. I have changed my rear many times [2000 RSV 86k---2003 RSV 52k] It's really pretty simple and you find a few short cuts after a while. I put it on my Sears lift [w/o straps] and take off right side saddle bag,r-muffler,un-bolt caliper and tie out of the way. Then with thin flat wrench I take of the axle nut. You should be able to slide axle out by pulling it out by the head with a little twisting. [a few times I have had to take off left muffler to tap axle out if it's stubborn]...then raise lift up to top height and pull tire and hub to right and lower and slide out. Also when I clean the bike or change oil or whatever I put on lift and spin bike around where ever I want it....NO TIE STRAPS.....If you have a smooth floor it's NP. It scares my friends to watch me grab the jack handle and just spin it every where. I DO HOLD ON TO HANDLE BAR WITH MY LEFT HAND WHILE I PULL JACK HANDLE WITH LEFT. JerryK:Venture:

    I sell Chevy Trucks for 29 yrs and you really can't hardly beat a 2008 or 2009 Silverado crew cab.....Great rebates......as much as 10-12k in rebates plus discount on truck. As commented above great buys in some low mile used that us dealers took in while gas was $4.00 Get a good 2008 used crew cab GM Certified 39 month/39000 full warranty plus remainder of 100,000 drive train Fact. warr.   7. I thought about using old Royal Star pipes but really think I can do it easier with parts from stock Venture exhaust. If you look at our pipes in stock position you can see that the rear cylinder pipe could easily move to hook to out side Fishtail that would be about front edge of saddle bags. The pipe coming from front cylinder would hit just right with inside Fishtail. I have my stock pipes gutted out all the way and have run it that way about 20k with no noticeable loss of power. I think I would have less restriction with quads than I have now. I need an extra set of stock Venture pipes and have nothing to lose but the cost of 4 fishtails and maybe a case of Bud Light while working on it! LOL Anyone got some stock pipes for sale cheap?   8. I've been toying with this idea for a couple years and thought if I aired out my idea here it would help me with a decision. I want 4 real pipes on my Midnight Venture.I want to take 4 small diameter fishtails with muffler and weld them in 2 pairs very close together side by side ....I figure a couple small straps under them to weld them parallel. Then locate and install bracket to attach to bike. Then similar to a old style Royal Star run seperate pipes to each muffler. But doing it to keep my passenger pegs in stock location will require a couple special shaped hook ups to original pipes coming out of the 4 cylinders. Mess up my passenger comfort would be bad for my sex life! I have a friend who had 4 fishtales on 1996 Royal that was so cool of a sound. Get that sound with our higher horse power motors gives me goose bumps! LOL I was looking at some of the old 650 V-Star shields that would work to cover new pipe sections and match Yamaha Chrome. I have them laying around but even if I had to buy some other Yamaha shields that shouldn't be too painful $$$$. I think it would look and sound great! Now lets hear it guys....what you think. JerryK
  9. To me the Venture is a Touring Bike that you set in a comfortable position on. I rode a Wing from Ohio to Az and back in 2001 and came back and bought a Venture.......Much more comfortable to me. JerryK
  10. I had 86,000,when totaled, on my 2000 Venture that I bought 3 yrs earlier with 13,000 on it. After healing from crash I have 53,000 on Midnight Venture I bought in March of 2006 with 7200 miles on it. But I lost most of last summer when shoulder came apart from original crash.....shoulder broke 7-15-2007.....and I was off work 3 months and didn't get back in riding shape till 11-2007......killed my Ohio season mostly. I'll turn 61 tomorrow 12-29-08 and plan on retiring next December then put much more than the 25-30k per year I ride now. I know 2000 Venture would have went 200K and my Midnight is as good or better to hope for the same. JerryK
  11. I don't have the pics any more but Biker Dick from Columbus, Ohio had them on Star touring site if someone who belongs wants to take a look. It showed how to modify and did make a big improvement. I also added K&N filters........these mods were on my 2000 Venture that was totaled and I didn't get the air boxes or K&N's because the left one was killed in the crash. The mod really opened them up to the shape of the air deflecter and they still didn't pull water or any junk in.....but it did use a lot more filter area that you could read with the dirt tracks on the K&N's.....Glad you reminded me.....something that needs done while this Ohio weather sucks!   13. I searched this sight about front lowering and think I will slide the front tubes up on my 2003 Midnight. It looks obvious how to do it but I know the best way is to hear from someone who has done it. So...how about some step by step instruction help? Thanks JerryK:Venture:

I put many miles on 3 sets of 880's with no problem......Never had a problem but I switched to Avon Venoms and have ran 3 sets of them and love them......Makes my Venture think it's a Sport Bike......I always think most guys tire problems are pressure related..... PLEASE EVERYONE CHECK YOUR TIRES BEFORE A RIDE IF THE BIKE HAS SET A FEW DAYS OR AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK IF YOU RIDE DAILY......PLEASE>>>>>>THIS IS THE SINGLE ONE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO TO LIVE TO RIDE ANOTHER DAY JerryK:Venture:
  16. My bet is on battery cables........if your connection is bad there that would explain back up not working. My 2003 once stuttered at starting and my trip 1 and 2 reset to zero. Nothing else went though. I tightened battery cables and that fixed it. I'd rather have root canal than electric problems LOL welcome Hal JerryK
  17. Raceman, I check them at least once a week if I'm riding every day.....If it sets for some days between,like now,I check it before I ride. Two weeks ago I thought I would get a good short ride in and it felt heavy in the front end. I checked it while I was out and had 23lb in front....I was shocked! Checking tire PSI Is not fun to do thats for sure.......but stop for a second and take a big breath..... please take a big breath.......Did you? Well if you don't keep your tires up and you go down and die you won't be taking in those big breaths! Being alive is something I enjoy! If we all keep an eye on PSI......more will live to ride again. JerryK
  18. Raceman I had never had a large pressure change until I had the surgery last year and it was real hot out. I was told that because my garage would get hot during the day then cool way of that the up and down big changes would take the pressure down and not come back. But too many times I here of people who have got their bike out after a while of not riding then have problems. A Cinncinati Harley guy joined his friends for a spring ride after months of not riding and he unexplanably went down in an easy sweeper curve in the middle of the pack. It was later found that pressure was very low when bike was hauled back to Harley shop. He seemed OK but died within 24 hrs of internal problems. I might be 60....but I'm too young and goodlooking to go that way. I'm amazed at the times my tires change at different times. JerryK
  19. Raceman, Please get you a good air gage.....it's critical to keep checking tire pressure..A big % of riders laying Ventures down is air pressure. Last year I had shoulder surg. and it set in the garage for 2 months....when I tried to ride I thought Damnnnnn I'm not feeling like riding this thing yet ....it felt like ****.......a friend of mine took a ride on it and agreed it felt terrible.......had 20 lbs in both tires.....i run 40-45 front and back...... Get rid of those original tires and get some other brand. I love Avon Venoms but also like Metzler 880 tires. JerryK

  21. TEW47, GET A NEW DEALER!! You are not wrong.....HE IS! They get paid by Yamaha to fix our bikes. Dealers who think like that will not help your situation. You probably know more than he does. I hope you are not in some isolated area with one dealer in a big area. Why do you think I travel past about 50 dealers and ride 3hrs to get it done. Tell that dealer that JerryK from Ohio says that the election is over! He missed the boat....should have ran for some self serving political office! I'll probably get spanked for these comments .....but......If I had listened to the Dealer advise I was getting around my area I would be riding a new Goldwing by now! Shy and reserve in Ohio.....LOL JerryK
  22. Monsta, You are taking the load off the rear end and the clutch at the same time. Can you hear what directions the sound is coming from under power? Could be either but same way my rear end acted. JerryK
  23. Ediddy, I've never heard that problem. Sounds like a machine or heat treat problem. One thing about Yamaha they will fix it. I've always experienced that Yamaha will OK fixes easy and as much as it takes to fix a situation. I've had a few Honda's along the years and they will fix stuff but it can be like getting a root canal to get them to OK some stuff. I had a 2000 Venture that was totaled Halloween night 2005 with 86K on it. Earlier that October I was at the bike shop with about 85K on it and was showing the Service Mgr that I had some cracks in the bottom of the trunk that I was going to Epoxy that winter. They wouldn't show and I could fix it easily. Just days before the crash it was rainy and cold and my friend who owns the bike shop called and told me he had a Pkg. from Yamaha and I needed to come get it. He had me a new trunk bottom half ,factory painted and ready to install. I ask if needed my old trunk cause it was very fixable and he said he didn't need it. So I have a 2000 Venture Red trunk bottom still in the box. JerryK
  24. Wanted to add that I really like my Yamaha Tall Wide Tinted windshield. I keep it clean and really ride lots of miles looking through it. It's great if it gets cool,rains,or just makes a long ride more comfy for my 60 yr old body LOL Last couple years I run one of the short ones when it gets too hot for a month or two here in Ohio. I ride 20K plus a year and have to say that the tall, wide is the most comfortable almost anytime. JerryK
  25. Big Boy, I've cut 2 of my windshields my self plus have tall wide winter windshield too. Can't have too many different ones LOL....Easy to change too. One thing I've learn the hard way was not to put duck tape on it. I would put duck along line to be cut so saber saw didn't scratch it. The duck will blemish the windshield. You'll notice if you get it in the light just right it shows some coating gone. Now I use masking tape. After sawing I use a big fat file I have and shape windshield with that. Run the file long ways from side to side and you can shape it easily. I have found that it looks hot with my 6 inch one one but mess's with glass's and helmets....You'll find that a little taller is cool. Cut a stock one down or cut a wide one down is my preference.
