  1. I gotcha on that but I'll have a bunch more miles by then and need it done this winter.....It's kinda too much for maint days anyway I think. I was up there for that great get together and "Freebird" still owes me anyway from my sore butt when me and another guy was on his swing on the deck and the chain broke! LOL I usually get big maint issues done at Dans Yamaha in Seymour In. about 3 hours away but Gary [his son] and great Yamaha wrench is recooping from shoulder surgery!
  2. I live in Troy Oh. and want to find someone on here that would do my valve adjustment and check my bike over for a fee. I have a 114,000 miles and want someone to do the work and give their opinion of anything else I might need.
  3. Ball end works and if you need in there often they offer a bracket on here to lower the bar out of the way.
  4. I give mine a little WD40 about monthly at the front lever were it pushes the piston in.....Works great and cures your described problem.
  5. I knew I needed a new rear rotor and had it a few weeks. I was starting to get a weird pulse in the brake and some scrapping noise so it's time to put it on. I get the new rotor on and new pads and the pedal still felt a little strange. I rode it about 150 miles riding normal then it started grabbing some and as I would slow I was getting some brake drag too! I took it back apart [only further] and found the needle bearing was fine but the roller bearing which is on the right was scrap. It only had 5 bearings left....the others were chewed up and gone. New bearing and it's fine now......114,000 miles so I guess I should do them all to be safe.
  6. Don I just heard you got a Harley.....COOl!! Most of my friends ride Harleys and they have certainly came a long way....My best riding bud has a 2010 Ultra Classic Limited and he has rode the hell out of it with me and lots of other miles.....No real problems! Yamaha will lose us all if 10 years from now we still have this Venture which we probably will. Really lots of cool bikes to chose from plus Harley....An heck going slow has to be safer!....LOL JK
  7. How about another thought on this? I had a 2000 with 86,000 that was hit and totaled and never had a noise ever. I now have a 2003 Midnight with 111,000 on it and about to visit my buddy Gary at Dan's Cycle Yamaha in Seymour In. When I purchased this bike in March 2006 with 7250 it had the whine and I knew I didn't have it on the other bike. Yamaha agreed to change the clutch basket but told me it would probably move the speed that the noise was at but maybe not eliminate it! Not liking that answer I got snooping around and after much listening to my bike I was thinking rear end not clutch. The dealer here in my area said yes Yamaha has some rear end problems sometimes but will tell you they don't.....But if I get with Dan's Yamaha in Seymour 3 hours away he could probably fix it under warranty??? Fix a problem they say you don't have and under warranty. I went there and met Dan's son Gary [a Magical Yamaha wrench] and he losens up the four bolts of the drive shaft and hits it with a mallet and it jumps back a few thousands of an inch. He said that's not enough he said but let me fix it and you enjoy lunch and I'll have it ready. I come back and Gary's on the phone and tells me to take it a ride and see what I think. During the ride It is gone at 75 mph where it was but is at 55-60 still. I hate to tell this guy this and as I pull back in he was getting off the phone. I told him my bad news and he said yes you are right and it needs a rear end and he was talking to Yamaha and they were shipping it. He put that in the next week as I returned for the great 3 hour beautiful ride and the noise was gone. He discovered this problem and told Yamaha that on some of the heavy whinning "Clutch Basket Ventures" that when he converted to trikes the noise was gone! That's how and why Yamaha believed and supported his decision on this NONE problem!
  8. It was a fuse but a very weird looking deal! The fuse didn't appear to be blown but under a real bright light it had what I would call a crack in the fuse wire and not blown. Very thin and I swear it was cracked and not blown.
  9. Have to have it on miles not trip and put your finger between them and hold them in and count to 4.....works every time for me!
  10. I agree.....Don't worry about it let it hang where it wants! Great bib I've had mine on two Gen II's for over 200,000 miles...works great! Also a can of Pop with a cuzy on it will fit tight and ride all day between the gas cap and the pouch and never move....Drives my Harley Buddies crazy! :Venture:JK/Troy Ohio
  11. Why are you taking the shaft out anyway. I have put over 10 rear tires on and after the first one never did anything but slide the tire and wheel out the bottom. Makes it quick and easy and don't have to worry about the shaft!
  12. Thanks I know where to look and I have pinched the running light wires in the past when putting them back up in position after having the fairing apart. I need the part that someone on here makes to relocate running light bracket so you don't have to take it loose to split the fairing. Who makes them I need one?
  13. I just got home and pulled into my dark garage and I have no lights! It wasn't quite dark yet but I was shocked.....Head light, driving lights and tail light are all out!
  14. Anyone have a used rear rotor for sale?
  15. 1....I need a Spacer Bracket for the front light bar that someone on here was making so you can slide the fairing off.....Are they still available? 2....I love my XM Delphi SkyFi ....Question? I had an Audiovox splitter that went bad I think because water followed the wire to the splitter. Lost my good XM reception when I eliminated the splitter. What are you XM users using for best results?
  16. I've had 3 Ventures two of them Gen II......My Midnight with 104,000 miles will start in cool weather on two then go to three then four. I bought it in Tenn. with 7250 miles on it and when I went to buy it it was running on three and scared the owner to death when I pointed it out and showed him the cold pipe. I ran it down the road got it hot and all was fine. Even with good plugs, gas and clean air box I still notice it. A friend I was with last night bought a great low mile 99 and was showing us the bike.....Started on two, went to three then in a few seconds four......I think it's just the nature of our great bikes and not a problem.
  17. I agree I think Cover Gasket is out of position and leaking.
  18. I'm getting ready for a couple trips soon and it has 104,000 miles. It's leaking a little oil at Valve covers and replacing those this week. Running fine and I just want to keep it that way!
  19. Some on here say they can leak and be detected with starting fluid others say they can't? I know they can't both be right!
  20. Where is the best price on carb joints.......Mine don't seem to be leaking when I spray starting fluid but the sure look like they should be leaking.
  21. My 2002 Midnight has 103,000 on it and I'm leaking a little oil from valve covers I think and carb boots are checked very bad and I want to replace them too. Valves have never been touched and I would like that properly checked and set. I want carbs set up too. Would like to do this soon as I want to be back riding soon....I'm in Troy, Ohio and looking for the right answer to get this done by who? I did have a new Stator installed this past year and trust my Jap bike mechanic but he's not a Venture expert and swears I should have him fix leaks and just keep riding. Can haul or ride to right person for repair no problem.
  22. I but this on second generation Venture but I'm sure is where I should have put it. This popped up yesterday on FB and I thought it was worth sharing....Interesting stats here! EVER WONDER WHAT THE TEMPERATURE FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU'RE RIDING? CHECK OUT THIS CHART.
  23. Sounds like a possible lose windshield or front air deflector. Worth a check.
  24. I need info on seat mod by butler.....Getting sore riding long miles...will this help?
  25. My switch did the same thing and I worked it back and forth and got it to work. I had been caught in the rain a day before and shot the lock with WD40 and it cured the problem and hasn't acted up again.
