I did mine recently per Goose's instructions and turned it maybe 1/4 turn, but I did it little by little to make sure I didn't over tighten them.

Congrats, it's a beauty. You'll learn to love the bike and with the info you'll pick up here, wrenching is just as much fun.

A Big thanks to this site and carbtune

some have posted on here that the stealer's want $300+ to do the sych. Robbery! -
hit your "Where to" button. At the next page you should have a routes selection, that is if your unit allows you to download routes. There are others on the site that will chime in a be able to help more than I can. I'm sure there are some on here who have your model GPS that can answer your specific question. I'm just trying to help till they log on. In the mean time I'll do a search on line and see if I can figure out what your unit will do.

Glad that synch worked out for you.

Do you know if you can download routes to your unit? If so, Harley Davidson has a route planner on their website that works really well.

Helmet itch dilema...make that emergency
slick97spirit replied to slick97spirit's topic in Watering Hole
I don't mind doing that myself, but I prefer that my wife doesn't. Thanks for the suggestion tho! -
I had a "slick 97 spirit" I loved that bike. If I could have, it would be in the garage with the venture.

Helmet itch dilema...make that emergency
slick97spirit replied to slick97spirit's topic in Watering Hole
I'd like to try anything right now, so if you could pm me with details I would appreciate it I'll definitely see if I can find these. Thanks Sure hope not considering she's a hairdresser by trade. That'd be kinda bad for business. Oh and I have no problem whatsoever with my head itching wearing the exact same helmet. Mini, I can't remember the name of the helmet, but it's not one of the expensive brandy ones. They are nice though. I've never had a helmet in all my years of riding that actually lived up to their claims of ventilation anyway. But at this point if I thought it would help, I'd try it. I appreciate all the input and look forward to hearing any other suggestions anyone might have. Thanks, -
I need some help here. I just bought new matching helmets for the wife and I. Don't remember the brand right now. We used to wear those little beanies when we rode the "slick97spirit" (honda shadow, hence the screen name) . Anyhoo, the wife has always complained alot about helmet itch. With the new and safer 3/4 helmets she is really complaining to the point of wanting me to trailer on our trip to Myrtle Beach this summer. Says she is not sure she'll be able to take it that long. Surely there is something that can be done. I've tried everything I can think of. I've bought several different types of doo rags, both cotton and polyesther and nothing seems to help. I know someone on here has dealt with this at some time in the past and found the cure. I guess I can just tie her on, turn the intercom down to 0, and take off.........

Engine Idle - Random fluctuation

Some of the others on here who know way more than me will chime in, but from what I understand a stuck float can cause this.- 7 replies

OK, I'll bite. Why not? I have an 8 foot tilt bed trailer that I've used many times in the past for my BMW and Triumphs. My first trailer was a tilt. I rode this 900# beast up the trailer (got it all the way up too) and IT DID NOT TILT BACK DOWN. Maybe it was a bad build on the trailer, not sure, but let me tell you. You do not want to be at that severe of an angle with these heavy bikes. In the end, as I was trying to ease it back down the ramp, the front tire lost traction and began to slide. Needless to say, I dropped it and busted a lower fairing before I ever put 50 miles on the bike. I'd never use one again on this large a bike. That's just me tho. I try to learn from my bad experiences. LOL

An 8 ft. trailer is what I used to bring mine home, but I had to tie the ramp at an angle and put something between it and the trailer so that it couldn't bounce up and hit the bike. Not ideal, but it works. Trailered 7 hours without any problems. Ideally you want a 10 ft. trailer with a ramp. Don't.......I repeat.......Don't use a tilt trailer..........Trust me on this one!!!!!!

We have a motorcycle shop in town that removes the tire stem valve before hitting it with about 60 psi. They told me that doing so allows more air into the tire faster and that with the proper lube the tire normally seats pretty easily. I personally haven't done it, but the tech told me he's mounted several that way. The point being that the valve restricts the flow of air into the tire. Once it's seated they put the valve back in and air it up to specs.

The bluetooth works great as well. Whether through the FM transmitter or wired in with the Buddy Rich cable. The transmitter of course requires a good and free channel. The Buddy Rich cable is definitely the way to go tho. Make sure you let him know you need the mic input wire with it. It will then work through the bikes intercom system allowing you to answer the phone if you want. I typically don't answer but the screen will show you that you have a call and tell you who it's from if you have the number stored in your phone. You can then hit ignore and call back later or answer it. I did test it out after installing mine. Called my dad and he said he couldn't even tell I was driving on the interstate. No outside noise whatsoever.

HF ATV jack, carbon-one adapter and a rear tire
slick97spirit replied to BigBear's topic in Watering Hole
I'm sure there are others that will have done it differently than me, but here's how I overcame any concern about off balance while changing the rear tire. I put the bike on the adapter and removed the front wheel as I was working on that end too. I couldn't get the tire from under the fender w/o raising the bike, so I just pushed the jack back under the adapter and raised it up enough to do so. With the front wheel off too, there were no issues. Once I had the rear removed I set it back down on the adapter, but I think you could actually pull the rear alone with no issues...... -
Dad, we had a great time. Thanks for making the effort to put this together. We need to get you a big flag pole and venture flag to fly on it so your house is easier to spot!!!!

Harley touring versus venture
slick97spirit replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I chose Yamaha over Harley for 2 reason. 1):mo money:Not enough laying around to be able to afford the Ultra 2) If you go for a ride this saturday and you see 50 Harley's on the road, 40 of them will be Ultra's. They are everywhere. Now don't get me wrong. I love em, always have, always will. But I just didn't want to be riding the same thing everyone else is. I wanted a bagger that was at least a little different that all the others. -
Carb-Sync -Clarification
slick97spirit replied to 2Flights's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The hardest part of the entire process is locating the screws. Everytime I do a sync I have a hard time (as was unfortunately witnessed at B2Dads M&E) finding the screws. Once you find them, it's like, I knew it was right there all along.- 5 replies
