I used the tools on the road helping other riders. HD guys don’t complain there mostly embarrassed. I kind of get a kick out of telling them how bullet proof these Ventures are. LOL The dip stick is used for a 1st Gen it just goes with me everywhere I go. LOL Yes! Jumping a scooter. Is the same way you jump a car. Except the car does not need to be running. Glad this helps I went and got a plastic case (like a brief case) and foam liner to hold all the tools and keep them from moving around. Because I pulled a trailer I also carried a 1 gal gas can. A front and back shock air pump, flashlight is always on the bike as well as a cargo net for the luggage rack. Glad this is helpful: If you can get a OEM off of ebay for the bikes saddle bag it will be enough then add what you think you might need.

Thanks for the info and I got allot of reading material. I am informed now. I have learned allot so far. I am not going to put a toggle switch on. If it truly is not a plug and play as I was told it will go back to the company. I was not aware of the legality of these lights and thank you Silvrt for the info. I will be calling on you Brad for your expertise on installing the light when I get it. I always make sure my lights are adjusted properly, I hate being blinded and do not want to impede other drivers. I just want the road in front of me lit up at least ½ mile down the road and the edges. If I am outside the city in the desert I want it lite up like day light. There are allot of open range areas and wild horses, donkeys and cattle roaming out here and I do not want to hit one (a deer was bad enough) Thanks again & keep um coming…….Ron

Do any of you have this light in the 5 or 6k lighting range and if so how do you like it. http://www.motorcyclehidxenonlights.com/Yamaha-XV1300-HID-Xenon-Lights/ My driving lights are L.E.D. and very bright and make my headlight dim and look yellow I see better with the driving lights on. So I am looking at installing a new headlight. I like the Kuryakyn phase 7 L.E.D. a friend has it on his Harley, but I cannot find any info to mount it on a Yamaha Venture. Your knowledge would be appreciated.......Ron

Here is what I put together for the trailer when we traveled. It just turned out to be a gas waster (too much extra weight) the truth is I have traveled on these Ventures for over 30 years and over 300,000 miles and there have been only 4 times I needed a tow and they all involved hitting something. I found if you have a credit card and a cell phone with these tough bikes with a bullet proof engine you have all you need. So here is the list better to not need it and have it, then to not have it and need it I guess. TOOL KIT FOR BIKE WRENCHES 6-22 MM FLAT TIP SCREWDRIVER #2 PHILLIP HEAD SCREWDRIVER #1 & #2 SMALL SCREWDRIVER (pocket type) Flat and Phillips ELECTRIC TAPE SOLDERLESS CONNECTORS FUSES assorted FLAT FIXING KIT & Spoons TIRE GAUGE VALVE STEM REMOVER OIL DIPSTICK HEAVY PAPER (to roll a funnel) PLIERS ALLEN SET CHROME BALL END CRESENT WRENCH WIRE CUTTING TOOL and STRIPPER 4" long spark plug wire end cap 3/8 WRACHET 6" SWIVEL END EXTENSION 3" SWIVEL END EXTENSION SPARK PLUG SOCKET SOCKETS # 8-10-12-13-15-17-19-22 ZIP TIES SHOP TOWELS HAND CLEANER 6 ft ELECTRICAL WIRE NUTS-BOLTS-SCEWS..ASSORTMENT SILICON SEALER SIPHON HOSE 1/4 X 6ft FIRSTAID KIT JUMPER CABLES

I guess the most memorable one was when our Son was married. They had a 2 year engagement so all could save up who wanted to go we all had a 6 night 7 day cruise to the Caribbean and he and his bride was married on the island of St Maarten. Aside from the parents and family, bridesmaids and grooms they had almost 90 people show up for the wedding/ cruise. We had a great time and the wife and I got to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This year on 12-12-12 we are celebrating another mile stone of wedding bliss. This one is the last sequential number to be had no more.

Very nice use of the 1500 GW trunk. I think it looks pretty good myself. I used a Vetter trunk off a GW on my 79 1100 Yammy with a Pacifico fairing Kawasaki bags, with Suzuki rails wrapping the bags and It looked pretty good at the time. Painted everything to match. When you get her painted to blend, it will be very stylish. The added room in the trunk will be a great asset, I was thinking of putting a HD trunk on mine but the cost of even a used one and the crappy locks with flimsy plastic made me change my mind. Yours looks really good and did the room from passenger to your back increase or decrease??

I thought the same thing Fuzzy. Figured this would be a piece of cake. Not so Grasshopper, Transmission rods in the way so bolt will not come out. Now I am having trouble removing the rod. Figured to take a break and post my finding. This seemed to be such a simple job at first. I am having one heck of a time trying to get the kickstand off. So now I am thinking of other ways to get the bolt out.............Ron

I had a nice 160 mile ride in the desert today. Stopped and had lunch then off again for a great ride. I had to stop at a rest area (you guys over 50 know what I mean) Well I’m Pretty much 50 miles from anywhere and go to put my kick stand down and the lowering loop broke off, weld snapped. Kind of tuff getting this old large man off the bike without a side stand and under stress needing to GO as bad as I had to. But I did it keeping the 900 pound beast steadied and bending down to put the stand out by hand. I thanked FREEBIRD for the center stand because it was nice to have a backup, Stopped and got gas and again it was a site to see with no one to help hold her steady, and then home in the garage. By this time I was getting to be pretty good at it. Thanking freebird again for that center stand because it is nice to have it there. For making this site and all the knowledgeable people here. So check your welds guys/gals .Now I have to see who will weld this one or find one……………Ron

I served on the jury of a murder trial. We had one juror who was there just to see how long he could stay in the hotel and get all the free food and get the pay. What a piece of work this guy was. The 2 killers drove up and down streets looking for someone to shoot with their stolen gun. They found a 15 year old on a bicycle and shot him. These 2 guys consoled the family and went to the funeral. One of them signed the guest book with I’m the one that killed your son. The person behind him informed the police. The guy who shot the kid set in the court room and would smile at the grieving family every time they talked or showed a picture of the shooting. I cannot tell you how the 11 of us jurors felt at this trial. but 1 moron took a three day trial and turned it into a 8 day ordeal and wanted 1 more weekend 2 friggen weeks. Well he did not get it and pouted. Finally gave a guilty verdict. The moron juror told the judge a month later that he was harassed into giving a guilty verdict. So the 2 got 2 go back 2 trial and were found guilty again. They were both found guilty. So this frigging moron juror put the family through another 2 trials. I would of really liked to of had a really good conversation with the moron.

Is there anyone who is/was an original 1st gen owner?
kantornado replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
I was riding an 83 HD and sold it because the price was right and I got tired of it being in the shop. I found my 83 Venture standard in 85 at a dealer in Boulder, Colorado wrecked. The dealer had it and the owner was selling it. The owner laid it down and was scared to ride it. I picked it up for 2300.00 and hauled it back to the house then half assed fixed it up with some 2 part epoxy mix on all the plastic. Bent the crash bars back out, found a rattle can of red paint (close enough) and started to ride it. Like most bikes I had owned I figured to ride it for a few years and get rid of it for something better. That Venture never left me stranded, it road and looked like a racing bike and was a GREAT touring bike. Even after it being totaled twice. (Wife and I hit a deer) more epoxy and a real paint job and some stripping it was a new bike again. The wife loved it and was very comfortable, easy to maneuver and handled like a dream. LOL, 20 years later and many, many smiles later a guy pulled up next to me at a light and asked if I wanted to sell her. I said sure I would for 3800.00 (2nd gear going out and over a 180,000 miles) I really did not want to sell her but he was persistent even after I told him her history. He offered 2700.00 and I could not say no, she rode away with a new owner. I still miss that bike, now don't get me wrong we do love our 02 but the 83 was and still is a great bike. We test road all the road sofas before getting the 02 Midnight and do not regret getting it. It is turning out to be another great investment with many smiles to the mile.........Ron:322: -
I put about 200 miles on a week in the winter months and up to 700 plus miles a week in the spring, summer and fall. My Venture is a daily commuter. Temperature range is 120 degrees in the summer to 30 degrees in the winter. Last night coming home from the ride the temp was 43 with gusts up to 20 mph and blowing sand. I believe I am a good candidate for the windshield because of the amount of riding I do and the temperature extremes......Ron

Rick & Marilyn and kids stayed with us for a few days for shopping and fun. We had a great visit and dinner, We talked of the great people we have met on this site and the good rides we have had with the people we have met here. How much the people we have met on this site mean to us and the Pork in the Pines. It was sad for them to have to go back to Canada so quickly. They could have stayed for another week. We mis hearing A-BOOT and EH (lol). Now it is our turn to go to Canada, hope your trip back is a safe one………….Ron
