kantornado replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Stardbog I will check it out. My front ones need replacing also. I use the rear and front together. I even use the front brake more then the rear because of the stopping power. I am still hoping there is someone who might have one.............Ron -
Canada & America Needs A Leader Like This!

Checked it out and its true. I like the guy I vote for him. Full story......................Ron http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/australia.asp -
I use a 3 inch "C" clamp to retract the pistons. Once you get the caliper off while old pad is in place put the "C" clamp on one side and tighten down till piston is flush and move to the other side and do same. Disassembling pads the 2 pins are held in place with very small cotter pins making sure you put the top plate back on the way you took it off. It is a pretty simple job if you need assistance call me and I can walk you through it. PM me.........................................Ron

They would like to part with. I just ground mine down 1/4 inch. I have a nice lip on the outer edge on both sides. Never even knew it was bad, no noise or grinding. Brake pads go quick on the rear of these 2nd Gens. When you put miles / smiles on them........................................Ron

Glad you like them. I do too they really made a difference in the way the bike handles and feels. I really like the way the bike handles on the roads that are under construction. They peal the top layer off and have all those squiggly lines and hash marks. My old tires would follow the grooves something terrible. The tires are great on the metal bridges also. These AVONS ride fantastic.........Ron

Here is my take on loud pipes. The vast majority of my bikes where quiet. I personally like quiet myself. But for safety reasons I have loud pipes and as you will read in the article so do the OPD................Ron Oakland Police Department Wants Louder Pipes On Its Harleys Published by Cyril Huze June 12th, 2008 in Editorial. Over in Oakland they like it loud - so loud that all 45 of the Police Department's Harley-Davidson motorcycles have been equipped with shiny new tailpipes, at a cost of $500 apiece, to rev up their roar. It seems the cops just didn't feel safe on toned-down bikes. "There's an old motorcycle adage that you are heard before you are seen," said Deputy Chief Dave Kozicki, explaining the department's decision to toss the bikes' muted factory-issued mufflers in favor of the more high-volume pipes. Kozicki cited an accident three months ago in which an Oakland officer riding a toned-down cycle was struck by a motorist who said he hadn't heard the officer approaching. But some City Hall insiders, as well as motorcycle cops elsewhere, said the safety argument is a stretch. Even the folks at the national Motorcycle Industry Council, which represents all the big bike manufacturers, were unaware of any safety benefits from louder mufflers.” We encourage all motorcycle riders to keep the original low sound levels that meet the … federal sound limit of 80 decibels," said industry spokesman Mike Mount. "It would seem counterintuitive that a law enforcement agency would go against federal standards.” Ironically, it was just a short time back that Oakland police were called upon to crack down on noisy motorists who had modified their auto mufflers to make a whistling screech. The "whistle tip" pipes were eventually outlawed under state law. Oakland's cops had a long tradition of riding their Harley-Davidsons with the modified, louder tail pipes, earning them the nickname "Rolling Thunder." But after an officer complained about a loss of hearing and others around town questioned whether the police force was violating the very noise standards it was supposed to enforce, the department brass ordered a switch to the quieter stock mufflers. According to Kozicki, the decibel drop sparked a chorus of complaints from other officers, who said they felt less safe. So last year the department launched a $1,200 study in conjunction with the city's risk management division to determine whether A) the louder motorcycles contributed to officers' safety, B) were detrimental to their hearing, and C) complied with noise standards. Kozicki acknowledged that whatever safety-related findings the study produced were largely anecdotal. Still, after everything was taken into consideration, the department concluded, "it was in the best interest of the officers to put more-audible pipes back on," Kozicki said. Hence, all 30 of the department's Harleys were sent down to the central maintenance yard for a muffler makeover, at a cost of about $15,000, according to City Hall insiders. Another 15 newly purchased motorcycles were ordered with the louder pipes, though at no extra charge. Oakland official acknowledge that the noisy pipes, when tested, averaged 93 decibels - well above the federal legal noise limit, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council.

Midrsv looks like you had a great trip and am glad you made it home O.K. I got the same fuel mileage on our trip from MN to Idaho and back pulling trailer after we bought the RSMV. Same fuel mileage from Mn to Colorado and back W/trailer. Same fuel mileage from Mn to Colorado and Las Vegas W/trailer. Out here in Vegas we get ( 2 up ) 33.6 mpg average no trailer and with the trailer we get 28 mpg. My pipes are O.K. and bike is tuned and runs great. I think its just the way I ride and the way it is. I have talked to other RSV owners here and its the same fuel mileage there getting also. I read about these guys getting 45 or 50 mpg and wonder if they know how to do math. The NAVIGATOR and I went out on a 2 up run this last weekend and I filled up afterwards and got 36.9 mpg we went 150.8 miles and it took 4.08 gal. I did not get this good of fuel mileage 2 up in MN we pretty much got 32 or 33 mpg very consistently and W/trailer we got 22 to 25 mpg. I think you did fine and had a very enjoyable trip for sure.............Ron

Question on Higher Output Stator
kantornado replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The 99 to 08 VENTURES have a 30 amp stator and is not enough to keep up with all of the ad on's I want on the bike. I pull a trailer and I want to make sure I have enough charging power with all the lights and maybe a heated suite for the NAVIGATOR. I had all my lights on the other night for about 4 hours and when I stopped for awhile the battery did not have enough power to start her up. I thought I gave up pushing bikes when I got rid of my HD.LOL It started right away but I really don't want to be somewhere I cannot get her started. .........................................Ron -
Question on Higher Output Stator
kantornado replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It would of been nice to here more testimonials but Kperkins was good enough for me. aside from having the HD tail light and a SD LED I have engine LED lights and also I have the head light that's on the bike and a pair of 55 watt DL's and two 35 watt DL's and I want to add another set of 55 watt lights and make the 35 watt lights 55 watt also. When I am done all 6 DL's and head light will be 55 watts and all other lights will be LED's. Then when I am cruising through the desert night I can see everything and people will see me. I adjust the lights low enough to where the lights don't bother other drivers........Ron -

Question on Higher Output Stator
kantornado replied to kantornado's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks for the quick response, I am in the process of switching all turn and tail lights to L.E.D. I am not going to unplug the carb heaters. Thanks for the idea..............Ron -
I need to know how many of you have gotten the Higher Output Stator and what you think of it?? Is 55 watts enough for allot of lights?? As we all know the VENTURES is not enough. I want to add some more lights and with pulling the trailer I know I will be under powered on the stator. I just keep adding more stuff more:mo money: on my favorite VENTURE................Ron

Most in my family and guests like the buffet table. Never had any problems and the times I feel over I was turning right and was by myself. It was inexperience of my youth at the time. I had hauled 2 people plus myself on my 83 once to Bill, WY about 10 miles I guess. Guy and his wife broke down on their HD in the late 70s on there way to SD. I just sat farther up on the gas tank with her in the middle and him on the pass seat. Would not of wanted to go further then that as it was a little uncomfortable. My stepson used to weight in at around 310 and I was 236 and never had any trouble on the 83. We logged about 10k miles together and never feel down or had a problem. Fell over once outside of Sturgis at a gas station with a gravel parking lot with my daughter. At the time she weighed about 90lbs. I was backing the bike and trailer up and there was a large hole in the ground and the 83 went right over but no one or bike was hurt. Foot placement is always kinda harry with sand or antifreeze at the stop signs or lights. Even gas stations by the pumps the cars and trucks leave dirt, grease, oil and sand and I have came close to dropping the bike on more then a few occasion's but have been lucky enough to of caught it. After moving to Las Vegas last summer when I stopped at a light the asphalt had liquefied and made me a little more then concerned about stopping or turning. It is something to keep in mind if your ever going to go through the desert. The one thing I think that has helped me over the years is I used to ride a dirt bike on ice and in snow. That is how I gave my kids lessons on riding a bike and it was how I was taught. If I wanted to learn to ride I had to pick it up on the icy driveway and kick start it to ride it. I logged allot of winter miles and smiles and with all the clothes on I never got hurt. I guaranty you will learn balance and surefootedness. I still ride my 02 on ice and snow just to keep in practice. Most experienced riders have a little talk with a perspective passenger and set the ground rules up front. That's part of learning and gaining experience as well as confidence in your passenger and your abilities as a rider...........................................Ron

Very, Very Nice Larry and I like the 3 wheel setup. The NAVIGATOR and I have been tossing around the idea of a trike and have the RSMV ourselves. I posted on the trike board and while looking around the site most of the people don't have pictures of there rig. I am glad you do that is a nice setup. Who made your rig?? Is it roomy in the passenger compartment??........................Ron
-
Thank you for the response and you definitely have a project going on. I looked these up and only came across the TRI WING. Motor trike did not have 1 for a VENTURE. Hannigan and Champion I could not find. Found the trailer site for Hannigan but not a trike site. We sat on a 1500 and a 1800 tri wing 3 wheeler and do not like how everything is kinda "in my face" and the NAVIGATOR and I thought there was just not enough room. I see there are other VENTURERIDERS that have converted there VENTURE to a 3 wheeler but don't have pics posted and we would like to know how roomy it is and if the conversion is stretched or the adjustment is by adjusting the trunk back. We have talked about making the NAVIGATOR a custom seat to fit the trike. In our search we ran across allot of VW, GW or HD trikes and kits. But the only one we found is the TRIWING for the VENTURE and was the hook up as easy as they say it is..............Ron

We as a nation lost our patriotism in the 60's to 90's and it's good to see patriotism back in vogue after 9-11. KenW asked a valid question on the proper way to display an American flag on a jacket or vest and by the sheer nature of what we wear it is considered a uniform. The pins or patches denote the organisation, group or tribe we belong as well as our ranking in said group denoting the places we have been or seen and the tattoo's we wear instilling fear in other riders or the general populace. The military branches do the same with Branch, ribbons, rank, campaign medals. I have seen the American flag worn upside down to reflect distress of the shape that this person believes our country to be in. As well as the flag used as bandanna's or undergarments and worn on the lower back or side by people making a political statement or just plain ignorance on proper place to display the flag on there part. I have seen the American flag displayed on the back of a bike with a smaller standard then there MIA/POW flag to make a statement of the riders distaste of our country's attitude towards our missing veterans. I asked these people why they display the flag in a disrespectful nature and that is there response. They have a right as a American citizen to express there opinion and I do not have to agree with there opinion and told them so. I could pry it off there dead body but I considered the source and moved on. So there you have it the proper way to display the AMERICAN FLAG on a jacket or vest how anyone chooses to is a whole different story. I am a member of a patriotic organization I was not born a MARINE but always will be. Here is a good link to get the straight scoop...........................Ron http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html
