I have a big trip planned to ride from Atlanta GA to Vancouver Island, I need to arrive there on May 8th.. I am sure some of the roads I would like to travel will be good and I am planning to try to do as much back roads as possible. I am a little concerned about the mountain passes primarily due to snow but I can avoid most places if I have to.. I was kind of planning on camping a couple of nights then hosteling/hotelling it the other nights.. I was thinking I would need to leave about April 30th to May 1st to get there by the 9th.. My plan is to Ride from Atlanta to Seattle WA then take a Ferry to Vancouver Island Never done a solo trip like this before so I appreciate any good advise from my fellow riders.. I have new tires, Heated riding gear, a good saddle and my bikes been serviced so I have all the gear I think I need just need some good routes going North West that I can ride that will keep me covering the country in an efficient time frame Thanks for your help and tips Stewart (Twowheelsonly) UPDATED INFO TO ORIGINAL MESSAGE Proposed Ride Route I have ridden 500 to 700 miles per day with not too much problems.. I usually need a 3rd day to rest up so I can probably knock off a couple of hundred miles on that day, I plan to ride the super slab if I need to catch up on my time, subject to weather or other delays, I have tentatively picked back roads that travel through or by the following cities: Atlanta to Nashville TN, to St. Louis, to Kansas City MO, to Denver CO, to Cheyenne, to Jackson WY to Idaho Falls ID, to Spokane WA to Seattle to Victoria BC I have traveled the CA and coast routes in a cage many times.. I think I will plan a southern trip next year to see the southern states.. I appreciate the input and advise! Stewart (Twowheelsonly)

RSV lowering - questions for those that have done it
twowheelsonly replied to atlm's topic in Watering Hole
Being the short guy I am 29" inseam, & wearing Motorcycle boots with large soles, I have always found the stock venture to high & had been looking for ways to be able to get my feet planted firmly on the ground. I also have had trouble backing the bike up if the road was uphill at all, I bought a Corbin seat and it gave me a couple of extra inches closer to the ground ( also great seat when broken in, just do an Iron Butt and it is broken in) so that was a great improvement over the stock seat & my feet could touch the ground firmly. I also installed the Barons Kit when i got my new tires installed and it rides good ( I have about 1000 miles on the new setup) and I had to re-aim all my lights so they were not pointed too far upwards.. I have a centerstand which now drags if ridden agressively ( 5 to 10 miles over the speed limit in the right handed twisty's) ( especially on the DragonTail) which I do not like! so I checked it out and found my centerstand has some up & down play and will droop slightly on a bump causing it to drag lightly on the road.. I was also disappointed to find that the only solution is removing the stand to stop the dragging and I now cannot lift the bike onto the stand anymore without someone helping me... You have to make sure you lean the bike correctly if you use the kickstand or it can drag on the pavement when you kick it out to park. I mainly ride solo so I set my rear shock to 40 lbs. to try to prevent the rear from being to soft in a corner.. The bike handles better atock with 30 lbs in the rear shock.. honestly I preferred the stock setup for overall handling in the twisty's and riding 2 up. I will probably re-install the stock bones and raise her up so I can enjoy my rides more when the road isn't straight. Hey I live close to TWO and the Northern GA area so handling is everything... Hope that helps!!! Ride Safe, Stewart -
I met a fellow RSV rider who totalled his RSV when the brake caliper came lose and got tangled in the rear wheel spoke locking the tire and causing a serious accident. Normally I would think careful installation would prevent this but with the caliper on the bottom the brake line cable has more slack and could cause the caliper to get tangled, LockTite makes a Blue type which is designed to have a drop or two on a bolt, when the adhesive dries it prevents the bolt from loosening, The bolt can still be removed with normal hand tools, Do not use RED it is more permanent and needs heat to remove bolts.

Go with your Honey and buy the nicest chromed out HD you can find, just make sure it makes your heart sing! and get your sweety to buy it for you as a small token of his appreciation for you giving up your favorite ride! About $25,000 should do it and you will have a pretty cool ride... The good news is HD copied Yamaha engineering so they are improving the quality of their top line models!!!

I would love to go but I can't go for that long unless I want to lose all my customers, maybe I could ride up to the Yamaha Days then head up to good old beautiful Briish columia, see my mom and sister, ride some of B.C. they have some great roads there too..hey! then ride to Alberta see my girls and see the Rockies then head back, I can only take about 10 to 14 days to do it so.. Are you riding anywhere this weekend?? I was thinking about riding up to Suches then Vogal, Russel Scenic highway and back home on the weekend! Stew

How many days you going to be gone??? Riding the Cascades is very cool and up the Pacfic highway to the Redwoods would be a blast, Leaving from Atlanta too Very Very Tempting I think I would like to talk with you! Stew 678-725-9566 Guess I would have to mount my new tires too!

I hate checking my tires especially the rear, I bought a couple of valve caps that have a builtin color guage, you buy the cap with a pre-determined pressure, I use 40 Ibs. front and back, if you see green your good to go, yellow is about 5 lbs. low and red means get some air or ride at your own risk, been riding with them for a few years and now I can easily see if my tires need attention, cost was about 10 bucks! Great safety Device Stew

Hey man, I know i's tough when you lose something you want, I had UPS lose a 150 pound transmission I ordered for my car, I am not sure where it ended up I think UPS must have a lot of stuff under their conveyor belts or it dropped out of the truck somewhere

Been wanting to do the 4 corners for a couple of years, Key West Fl to San Diego CA, Peace Arch Park, WA and Maine, then back home, imagine all the wonders you see, If anyone wants to do this ride contact me! In the meantime I'll see it in my mind!

Harleys are OK, Just too many of them, I think the reason some HD guys don't wave is they are unhappy with their bike and could be experiencing a possible breakdown so cut them some slack...Most HD guys are OK one on one or if they really like to ride, It's all about the ride, the air and the freedom on backroads you have never seen. My best riding buddy Hoove ( retired fireman)has a 2002 Fireman Special it's a Road King and he just passed 137,000 miles, we have a great time travelling and putting a couple of thousand miles on in a week, He likes anyone who rides anything, HD, Jap Crap, Funny Looking BMRS and even Moto Guzzi's, I feel bad for the guys who trailer their bikes to events, most are at best a weekend riders and don't get to enjoy the ride to the destination. Give the HD guy a break, wave when they go by, and remember it's about the ride, the friends, and the adventure on the way!
