Rear cylinders are dead
venturega replied to bscrive's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The right two cylinders were dead when I bought my used venture a couple of years ago. It turned out the right side carbs were gummed up and the idle jets were plugged so no fuel when the bike idled (cold cylinders). When I turned the throttle I could get the the cylinders to heat up. Maybe the dealer did not pull all the jets and clean them out good or just replace them while in there. Pulling the carbs is not too big a job. I would pull the carbs, clean and replace the jets. I think your bike sat too long and the gas probably turned into what looks like a brown laquer which clogs the jets. Honda or Yamaha will make no difference. -
I don't believe Reinhart makes an exhaust setup for the Venture. These are not meant to be imitations - they just have tips that look like what Reinhart puts on theirs. The exhaust tips do change color a little and end up with a deep copper color look to them.

Here is a link to the video on my LAC exhaust. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6FoqDG5Mxo]YouTube- LA Chopper exhaust on Yamaha Venture[/ame] Ralph

I have them but no sound clip or video. They are pretty loud and are much smaller diameter than the standard pipes - the look takes some getting used to. If I find a video or sound clip on my PC tonight I'll try and post.

I think it is IMC. I just bought a set from Chromeworld.com for $69 and will be using them this weekend. As long as the half helmet doesn't push them into my ears I think they will be OK.

AIS Question
venturega replied to David R. Vincent's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I did the AIS plug a few days ago after installing some LA Chopper slip on's and getting a lot of popping. I was amazed at how the problem just disappeared. No more popping. I would start by plugging with some rubber stoppers because you can always go back if you like. Only takes about 30-45 minutes - the front hose is a little difficult to get to. Good Luck.- 9 replies

Cold Engine / Exhaust
venturega replied to venturega's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I spent the whole day taking the carbs off. Opened the float bowl and cleaned the jets. The pilot jet was clogged on the right side carbs and the bowl had some crud in it. Looked like the bike may have been put up for a while and not ridden. It runs like a top now. Thanks for everyones input. -

Thanks all for the input. I guess I'll keep trying the additive stuff before pulling the carbs. If I dont get it by next weekend I'll pull the carbs and try to clean them. -

It is under warrantee but the cause is old fuel sitting in the carbs - of course thats what they say. I am the second owner and it only had 9,000 miles when I bought it last month so it wasn't ridden very much so the "stealer" may be right about the old gas sitting in the carbs. -

Well the dealer says it is clogged carbs on the right side and wants $600 to clean them. He could not do it for another week so I told him to forget it. I took off the tank and air box yesterday and sprayed carb cleaner in the carb throat, put some fuel treatment in the tank and rode it today - no fix. I am trying the Seafoam sucked into the fuel line tonight and letting it sit overnight. If that doesn't work I am going to pull all the carbs out of the bike. Can the whole thing (carb rack) be left in one peice and flipped over to get to the float bowl etc. or does all the linkage and crap need to be stripped off the carbs? There are way too many parts for me to be taking the whole thing apart. -

Thanks for the input - I'm taking it to the dealer next week so I'll see what they come up with. -

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense. I guess you have to step back and take a better look at things sometimes. It looks like the 2 left carbs are choked and the rights are not. -
New to the forum and I have a question about my 2005 Midnight Venture. I have a 2005 Roadstar as well but these are totally different bikes! I've had the Venture for about a week now. When the Venture is cold it smokes a little out of the left exhaust pipe for about 1-2 minutes but as soon as it heats up its fine. The right side exhaust does not smoke but also does not warm up for almost 8-10 minutes. I can keep my hand at the exhaust pipe after 10 minutes and it is still not hot. I cannot do this on the left side exhaust. I also tried touching the exhaust pipe and I can do it on the right side but not on the left (after 10 minutes of run time). Should I be concerned? I am taking it to the dealer next week so they can transfer my warranty - I don't expect they will be much help.
