  1. Thanks. I finally got it off. It is standard thread and not reverse. However I have another problem. I put everything back together but now you can not pull the clutch lever in. I took everything back apart and it is sitting there with no clutch basket, clutch boss, or clutch plates and I still can not pull the clutch lever in. Does anyone know what I did wrong????
  2. Problem solved! Bad eyesight lead to alignment problem. Corrected and works fine now. I know I have seen step by step instructions on swapping out the clutch basket but I can not find it. It may be on the other site I'm not sure. My 2001 Venture has gone from almost no whine when I bought it with 4,500 miles on it to screaming with almost 16,000 miles on it. My question is, Is the nut that holds the smaller disk basket into the larger clutch basket a standard thread or a reverse thread? I have tried with all my might to loosen it by turning it to the left. I even added a 3 foot piece of steel rod to it and it will not budge. With only 4,500 miles on it I don't know why anyone would have gone in there but I thick they did. I think they tightened it down with a lot more than 50 lbs of torgue. Non of the clutch disk are lined up as they should be. Evidently that is not important because it has been shifting fine for the last 11,000 miles. Any suggestions on which way to turn that nut and how to break it free would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Harry
  3. Nice looking bike but did they address the heat issue and the fit and finish issues they had their first year? If so it would be a nice change but since no bike is perfect has it got it's own gremlins?
  4. Okay I don't no what to say about this statement. He says the statement was weak and the very next sentence makes the very same claim????? Like I said before, every bike has it's problems and the Venture is no different. Not all the Ventures have the problem so I disagree that it is an engineering flaw. It is probably a manufacturing flaw of not holding the proper tolerances on the specific part that is making the noise. Since not all Ventures make the whining noise then there has to be small tolerance differences within the parts. I did get the adapter in so I can use earbuds. I test drove my Venture that has the whine. With the earbuds I turn the volume down to half what the speaker volume was and the music and CB are clearer and easier to understand AND I did not hear the engine whine one time. I did have to get use to shifting again since I shift by listening to the engine. After about 10 minutes I had that down pat. So I will not mess with trying to fit an oil cooler since the $45 dollar adapter and the $20 earbuds did the trick for me. Plus I don't have the ringing in my ears from all the wind after a day of riding.
  5. Mine does the same thing. Now that's a good idea. I need to start working on that.
  6. One other note I think is worth mentioning, I have never seen a perfect bike. Some Ventures whine and some don't but even the ones that don't whine are not perfect either. People change brands in search of the perfect bike but no one has ever found it. What they do find is a bike that the imperfection is easier for them to live with. Everyone is different so what bothers one person will not even phase another person. If the whining bothers you then you may want to try another brand or model of bike that whatever problems or short comings it has will be easier for you to live with. Good luck.
  7. I have not found a solution to the problem. I have two Ventures and the 01 has the whine the 2000MM does not. I have found in my case that the 01's whine is not very bad until the engine/transmission gets good and hot at which time the whine gets real noticeable. At least in my 01 that is how it works. thinking that maybe the whine gets worse as the oil thins I switched to a 10w50 but if that helped it was not much. Someone posted some info about a friction additive that is suppose to be safe for wet clutches and said it worked for him. I tried it and it did not work for me. Mine only whines at a certain RPM range and then is worse when it is hot and within the RPM range and power is being applied. If you ease off on the power a bit the whine is not as bad. This is what I will try next. As I wear a half helmet and use a mic to talk over the CB I bought a converter that allows my mic to function and allows me to wear earbuds. The earbuds block outside noise and allows the music to come through. I have used them on my 2000MM and they work great. I can play the music at a much lower volume and it is much clearer. I will try it on my 01 with the whine next. The biggest problem I see if this works is that I have to listen to the music to get rid of the whine. Not a problem for me but if you want to just ride down the rode and listen to the wind, well your out of luck. One other note that wearing earbuds while operating a motor vehicle is illegal in some states because it does reduce the ability to hear emergency vehicles. Here are a couple of links if you are interested in the adapter. My adapter has a hiss in it if you do not have a song playing but is not noticeable with the music playing. I have the Plugup model (cheaper). http://www.plugup.com/ and here some other ones I don't these; http://www.spoiledbiker.com/harleyadap.html or http://www.edsets.com/edsets_adapters or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Headphone-Adapter-Intercom-Stereo-Systems-/270844822786?hash=item3f0f9c0502&item=270844822786&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1202
  8. I haven't read the other post but here is a lower wider windshield you can look into. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=0&Category_ID=2&manufacturer_ID=66&product_ID=27947&sblid_name=Show_Chrome_Accessories__Big_Bike_Parts__Tour_Tint_Windshield___Yamaha_Royal_Star_Venture_
  9. Got about 16K on my E3's and I still have plenty of tread on BOTH front and rear tires. Just ordered another set of E3's for my other Venture from Jake Wilson. Their has been a price increase on the E3's but Jake Wilson still had them for the old price.
  10. I didn't think there was any difference but I checked the part numbers on the 2004 and the 2001 and they are the same. NOW I don't know if you have the US version or the other versions. There are slight differences and I don't know what they are. But if you have the US version then the exhaust system from Pin Wall will work. If you have the overseas version (Canadian, England, etc...) then I'm not sure but will probably work.
  11. I have never herd of anyone replacing the whole exhaust system. Almost everyone replaces the mufflers. I have Harley slant cut mufflers on both of mine. If the exhaust pipes (not the chrome covers) are rusting away and the chrome is good maybe you can find some used ones from a salvaged bike. Pin Wall Cycle on ebay has complete exhaust systems occasionally. Harry
  12. Nice job on the RS! Looks like a blast I'm glad ya'll had a good time.
  13. I bet he could. Not much he can't do.
  14. Very well done. Thank you.
  15. I have had no experience with these but the previous owner put one similar on my bike and I took it off. Not much light. Also someone I ride with has one similar and I could not tell her taillight was on. Ebay sells a LED for the Venture (V-Star) that is $53.09 that I am very happy with. Much brighter than stock 1157. Those look like they would be good for the front turn signals but you would have to put resisters in line to make them flash at the proper rate. I'm strange I want as much light in the back and front as I can get. I don't think you would be happy with them for the tail light but for the price it is worth the price.
  16. Wait until schools OUT!!!
  17. Give it the RPM's. Just when you get to where you think it will blow up crank the throttle and hang on.
  18. The US has changed it's story. Government officials now say Osama was unarmed. That he did not have enough time to arm himself. Well I have a problem with that statement. Let's see, every video I have ever seen of him he had a weapon on him and now the US is saying he was unarmed?????? And did not have much time to defend himself?????? How could a weapon be so far away that he could not reach it. He did not hear 3 helicopters, a firefight and one helicopter crash???? In my opinion he had more than enough time. Of course the way the government keeps changing their story we will probably never know what actually happened but if he was unarmed he could have provided us with some great intelligence. Never mind some judge would would release him and say we were mistreating him and the judge would set him free. Good thing we killed him armed or not. BUT if he wasn't armed why kill the women. You see things just don't add up.
  19. We're leaving on the 15th for 6 days from Atlanta. We are doing the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive and Shenandoah Valley. If we have time hopefully into Pa. to Gettysburg. We have 5 bikes going. If it works out maybe we can hook up.
  20. I had heard the same thing but I went to a UK news sight to try and get info our government was trying to keep quite and they said the women was the wife of one of the other officers and that she was shielding Osama. If that was the case good riddance.
  21. I get mine from http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ I haven't found anyone that can beat there OEM prices and shipping charges. Of course I don't send to much to Aus.
  22. Well I guess I'll be the skeptic. I hope and pray everyone is right and he is dead. But to many things don't add up. Yesterday I read on the ticker tape at the bottom of the news special that he had been killed a week a go by a bomb and DNA just confirmed his ID. Then it was a patriot. Then I get up this morning and I heard Obama say it was Navy Seals and he was killed in small arms battle. Then I heard he was buried at sea. So if Obama is right they killed him did DNA test on him and got the results and buried him at see within 1 day. Why such a rush? Is it only me that thinks the time line is a little unrealistic?
  23. I don't know where to post this so this will do. I hope I don't upset anyone. I need an extra set of the rubber/plastic pieces that go on the rear passenger trunk mount. Two of the pieces are the black rubber/plastic passenger arm rest. The left and right piece. The other is the center black rubber/plastic piece in the center of the trunk support. I hope I explained this well enough. I would like to paint them another color for a project I am doing on my bike. Thanks, Harry
  24. Hopping and praying for the best for you Lewis! Harry
