  1. There are soooo many laws on the books that the police seem to ignore. My friends who are police officers all have there pet peeves that they enforce and they all ignore the rest. So having a law is not the same as enforcing the law. As far as the oil change goes both my owners manuals suggest changing the oil every 8,000 miles so it doesn't matter to me if I run conventional, blend or synthetic I change it every 5,000 miles. And Rotella nor any other oil I have found reduces the whine that I can tell.
  2. Thanks Joe, As I did not really want to spend that much money to basically get rid of the 5 pin connector I went to SENA's website. They have a devise called the "SM10 Dual Stream Bluetooth Stereo Transmitter" that if I am reading it right would take the place of your friends wiring harness and one of the bluetooth headsets. It cost about $140 but you have to purchase the 5 pin connector to fit the Yamaha at an additional charge for about $30. This cord plugs into the aux jack on the SM10 and into the 5 pin connector on the Venture. The smartphone plugs into the input slot. Now you would also need the headset like the SMH5 for about $100 or the SMH10 for about $155. So if I read all this right it would be about $270 for the low end SMH5 and about $$325 for the higher end SMH10. Or I can get a low end J&M wired headset for about $70 or move up to the Elite Series for about $175 plus $30 for the cord. Here is the link to the SENA adapter I was reading about. Let me know if you read it differently. http://senabluetooth.com/product/adapters/sm10/#tab-accessories Harry
  3. One of the Korean car companies (sorry I forget which) starting with their 2014 Hybrid warranties their Hybrid battery forever to the original owner. Now if Toyota and Honda would just follow suit. As for the oil I use Rotella. No more Supertech filters though, dang it. All I can find at Wal-mart is Fram. I use 87 octane gasoline in everything, Venture, Prius, Truck, Pontiac, Maxim 750, chainsaw, etc, etc... Oh and I run E3's on the Ventures.
  4. Thanks Don looks like I will stick with the 5 pin system. Harry:confused24:
  5. I notice the Prius speedo if off like the Venture speedo. Must be a Japanese thing. You would think as good as they are in school they could build and accurate speedometer. Unless they are doing it on purpose to squeeze a little more mpg from unsuspecting customers.
  6. I've seen the bluetooths that say they work with the intercom system, mp3, radio and phone. Is that what I need so that the CB would be used instead of the intercom? Thanks, HJarry
  7. Thanks Rick I will wait for more supporting evidence.
  8. I am a Prius owner and driver and I may be able to shed a little light on the subject. Most people who buy a Prius do so to save money on gas so they drive like they want to save gas. As for them cutting people off here in Ga. Prius drivers share that title with just about every other make and model made. The Prius has a big blind spot where the two post come down and support the front windshield. In fact Toyota tried to eliminate that buy putting two tiny little windows at the bottom but it does very little good as the blind spots are still there. I usually drive 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit. It is not that I don't want to drive faster but driving faster burns more fuel and I can drive more relaxed since I don't need to constantly be searching for police with radar or lasers. I just set the cruise and go. I am not a left lane driver and I detest those drivers. Now for the statement about buying a small car for $14K and saving $8 to $10K. Bull. If you compare apples to apples you are incorrect. You can not buy a small car for $14k with the same equipment that comes standard on a Prius. Yes you can buy a stripped down car for $14k but then you are not comparing apples to apples. My son bought a Prius C for a little under $21 which is what most sell for. I have driven it 3 times. It averaged 66, 67, and 63mpg. Now I know this was not an attack on Prius drivers but just an observation on a lot of Prius drivers and I am sure it is accurate. The Prius is the best car we have ever owned and our first Japanese care. It is cheaper to operate than my Venture and more comfortable although it is a cage.
  9. I put a H4 3528 WHITE LED 16 SMD 80W CREE REFLECTOR LENS FOG/DRL HI/LOW LIGHT BULB. It has a low/high beam. I can not recommend it. I was looking for something to match my LED driving lights as my H4 halogen bulb looks very yellow compared to my driving lights. 1) It does have a low/high beam however the blue high beam indicator on the dash instrument panel is always on. The blue indicator light dims when on low beam but it is always on just the same. The LED on low beam is almost useless. Oncoming cars can see it very well but you can't see the road very well without the aid of the driving lights. It also flickers a tiny bit on low beam. 2) High beam is much much better however I am worried it is too bright for oncoming cars. Although it is very bright it does not shine light far enough down the road at higher speed for me. It will light up anything with reflective paint for a long long way but the driving light is not far enough out for me. I was looking for a whiter light and since I don't drive much at night I will probably keep it as it only uses 24 watts of power and as we all know on these Ventures you need to conserve wherever you can. I was using the Sylvania Ultra H4 9003 bulb because it was suppose to be a whiter light but not compared to the LED's. Someone told me to try a PIAA bulb but they are so many and they are so expensive I did not want to buy one only to be dissatisfied with it after I installed it.
  10. Thanks Rick so I guess I figured wrong. So I guess if you have a Bluetooth device attached to your helmet with the iPhone plugged into the auxiliary port you just use the push to talk button on the handlebars to talk to others on the CB. That is great now I can order a Bluetooth and get rid of those wires. Whoo Hoooo! Thanks again Rick.
  11. I think I know the answer to this but just in case I thought I would ask anyway. The answer is probably on the forum somewhere but I can't find it. Here is what I want to do but I don't think it will work and I don't want to buy the Bluetooth headset unless it will work. As you know the Bluetooth headset will work fine if you get a call on your cellphone. But can you talk on the CB? If I connect my iPhone to the Venture (2nd Gen) via the headphone jack on my phone will I be able to talk on the CB. This may be a dumb question but I am not the sharpest tack in the drawer. I do not think it will. I will probably have to buy a headset with a 5 pin connector to listen to the music on my iPhone and be able to use my CB but then I am not sure if I can answer calls. I think I should be able to but I don't know. It would be alright if I could not answer calls as I don't think it is safe to talk on the phone while riding even with a hands free device. Has anyone tried this? Sorry if this is already posted but I could not find it. If it is posted if you could just give me the link that would be appreciated. Thanks, Harry:confused24:
  12. They are very comfortable. I just rode 3830 in one week and fixing to put on another 1000 miles in a two day ride.
  13. #1 was for sale a few years ago by a Dr. in Louisiana. IMHO the value of each MM depends on a number of factors such as condition, mileage, etc... #1 and #1500 would be more valuable if you found the right buyer but book value on both would be the same as any other MM, again IMHO.
  14. Cool the newest MM. Welcome to VentureRidres!
  15. Your welcome...
  16. Mike sent me the pictures of the LED strips he used and some pictures showing the installation of the strips on the LED lights. The first picture is a picture of the LED strip I used. Mike also included a picture of the LED light to get at Northern. Mike's the best
  17. Yep that is the type Mike used. I have not used that type so I don't know which one is easier to install. I know mine fits tight. The channel fits just about perfect.
  18. If this works there should be a picture of the type of LEDs I used. If you use this type it needs to be 30cm long. You just wrap it around the inside of the LED light and glue it in place.
  19. Thanks for the help:301: Seems there is a previous post with pictures, hurray! The only thing I did different is the type of LED light strip I used. I will take a picture of it with my phone and attempt to post it here.
  20. If anyone has any specific questions please ask and I will try to answer them. Sorry again for not taking pictures of the process but I was just winging it from what Mike had told me.
  21. I have explained the process to the best of my abilities in a previous post. I'm sorry but I did not think to take any pictures of the process. So I can not provide any pictures, sorry. I wasn't even going to mention it here but Mike said some of you may be interested.
  22. I will try. Mike Eykamp is the expert and explained the process to me. Here goes; Go to Northern Tools or their website and purchase two of their 5" black rubber waterproof LED 12 - 24 volt lights. Down here they are $39.99 each but Northern does have sales. Take the rubber boot off the plastic LEDs. Pull the wires out so that they stay with the LEDs. Be careful as they are hard to pull out. Mike then wrapped the yellow LED strip around the inside lip of the LED. Mike used the thin type which is probably a better quality than the kind I used. I think Mike said he use the 24" length. I used brighter type that is available on eBay that is 30cm long. I think it is lesser quality but I was after the brightness. If you use the 30cm LED strip from eBay it is a tad long and may need to grind the excess rubber off the light strip almost down to the metal wires. DON'T CUT OFF THE LAST LED AS THEY RUN IN 3s. If you cut the last LED the two in front of it will not light. If you use Mike's type you just wrap the excess over the rest of the strip. The type Mike used is very thin where as the type I used is about 1/4" wide x about 3/8" high by 30cm long. The type LED I used I just glued in with a flexible drying glue. You will need to get some exterior double sided tape to put around the LEDs. The lights that came out of mine were 4 1/2" but the LEDs are only 43/8" in diameter and the double sided tape helps make up the difference. LEAVE the plastic on the outside of the two sided tape. You only want the tape to stick to the LED nothing else. Trim it so that it does it stick out on either side. Connect the wires with whatever type of connectors you wish to use to make all the electrical connections inside the driving light bucket. Position the LED in place and replace the bezel and you are finished. The LEDs are still a little smaller but should be alright after you put the bezel back in place. Hopefully I have not forgotten anything.
  23. When I was at the International Rally I noticed some bikes there had very bright LED driving lights. After some inquiries I found out the Mike Eykamp had made the ones on his 03 Venture. I asked Mike and he explained the process of making them so I decided to make some for my green 01 Venture. I like the extra visibility the LEDs give you. I did change the LED strip and went with another type of LED strip. Here are a couple of pictures.
  24. Way to go Louis and all the rest of you!
  25. I wave and I don't care if they wave back or not. I have better things to worry about to care if they wave back. There are lots of reason why someone will not wave. Peer pressure, pre-occupied, etc...
