The warranty is up on mine, expired this month and now I have a Harley look alike on the left side of my back wheel and tire, oil leak (bad o-ring in the final drive) which I’m going to replace as soon as I get the part see this post http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=143363&posted=1#post143363 In a few years I may trade this one in on a new one if Yamaha upgrades the 80’s technology by then, if not I’m going to look at a Wing or Harley Ultra.

Final Drive Oil Leak on 03
Pilot replied to Pilot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes I did, that was the first place I looked. In retrospect if it had been leaking from the drain plug I would have had a Harley puddle under the bike when it was sitting. I heard back from Mama Yama and they are graciously going to pay for the O-Ring ($7.78) but not the labor so it looks like I will be doing the job. I won’t have the part until next Thursday maybe, so I will change it out that week-end and let you all know if that solved the problem. -
I have noticed some oil on the left side of the rear wheel and tire of my 03 Venture after a long ride of say 50 + miles. I noticed it for the first time about a month ago and thought it was just road oil and washed if off. After a ride this past Sunday I noticed it again and now I’m sure it’s an oil leak on the final drive. I stopped by the local dealer yesterday and asked them to check with Mama Yama to see if they would cover the repair under warranty since I first noticed the problem last month (my warranty was up the 19 of this month). If they don’t cover it I will do the repair myself. I am thinking that it’s the oil seal which is just behind the bearing housing on the final drive. What do you folks think? Has any one else had an oil leak here and if so do you have any suggestions on the replacement of the oil seal? I’m thinking it’s a straight forward repair with no hidden issues. Thanks for your input. I’m hoping that Yamaha will pay for it but I want to be prepared to do it myself just in case. If I end up doing the repair myself I’m going to take pictures and do a work up on the repair for the site so the next person will have a tech article to follow.

How Many VR Members does it take to change lihgtbulb ?
Pilot replied to stardbog's topic in Watering Hole
No such animal as a light bulb or lamp. There is such a thing that is called a DARK SUCKER, which some people some times confuse with a light bulb or lamp. -
Anyone heard of Samsung pipes?

Where's a good place to buy the brake pads?

As others hear have said you knew the Venture had a cassette player and you may or may not have known about the whine, but you bought the Venture anyway WHY? I’ll tell you why because of the value and dependability of the machine. You do need to find a good dealer as they will bend over backwards for you, do you want to know why, because they want you to be satisfied and trade that machine in with THEM for a new one when the time comes. I will buy another Venture in a few years, I hope they have resolved the cassette and fuel injection as well as increased the HP by then. I have the whine and I never used the cassette (I don’t own any cassettes) but I still like the way the bike rides and handles. I have over 65000 miles on her and I never had to go back to the dealer because it broke down on the road, my friend bought an Ultra 2 year ago and his bike has been sitting in the repair shop more then in his garage. HD is not that customer orientated ask my friend, he is suing the dealer under the lemon law to get another bike. Just my 2 cents……

Gene I'm also watching this post to see the outcome. I would add the XM to my Zumo but I think the antenna/receiver is a bit to expensive just to listen to XM. I'll just use the MP3 player function of the Zumo for the time being, but I would add XM for a reasonable price. Thanks for looking into this for us and keep us posted.

BuddyRich has it right, You need to hook the audio out from the Zumo or other brand GPS to the AUX in on the bike, you won't be able to hear it using the built in speaker. Buddy's cable is great if you want to make and receive calls on your cell. The Zumo has it all XM radio (an add on) GPS which is waterproof and you can see it in the sun and an MP3 player. The best of all worlds in one unit which is made for bikes. It's not hard to split the fairing and add a Y connector to the AUX cable, run the cable along with another cable for power out to the mounting location of the GPS, add Buddy's cable at the same time and your riding in style. The Antenna/Receiver for adding the XM radio is rather expensive but someone on this site is working with a supplier on an antenna which costs around $50.00. I don't think he has all the bugs worked out yet, see this link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=5333

I paid $637 with shipping, site below. BuddyRich on this site makes the cable to allow you to use the 550 with your headset for around $30.00 shipped, do a search on this site for his email and he will make one up and ship it to you. http://buyeretail.com/search.asp?s=GARZUMO550&x=27&y=8 Pilot

I have had the IWAY 250 and the 350, both are very hard if not impossible to see in bright sun with shades on. I have not had any problem with the 250 but I have had the 350 lock up a few times on bad roads, a vibration thing since the 350 has a hard drive. I just upgraded to the Zumo 550 which is made for a bike and has lots of features. I have not had the Zumo very long so I can't testify as to it's reliability. The Zuno is down to around $650 shipped now.

Mine is the same way I have tried both the 350 and the 250. I purchased both while in the St. Louis area, I didn't wear sun glasses that often so I never thought I had a problem. Moved to South West Texas in January, rode a month ago in bright sun so I put my sun glasses on and YUP they made the screen look blank. Now I just use it for music and follow the voice directions, but I'm looking for another GPS, one that you can see in the sun...

Look on the left side of the bike just forward of the gas tank. There's a black knob mounted on the back side of the front end that you turn. I think this is the one that adjusts the beam up and down.

Goose is correct, fuse's protect wires.... . When designing a circuit one would first figure out what the total load will be in amps and then make sure the wire is sized correctly in order to supply the load safely without melting the insulation on the wire, thereby possible causing a . Then one would insure the proper size fuse is selected to insure the current flow is inturrupted before all that bad stuff happens. One usually designs for 80%, in other words you want to stop current at 8 amps if your wire size is only good for 10 amps. And you want to install the fuse as close as possible to the source of power not the load, remember your protecting the wire.
