I picked up my new 07 a few days ago. While I was doing a walk around on her I noticed a deep scratch in the middle of the lower cowlings. It went straight across both half's and was not there when I was looking at it on the showroom floor. Told the owner about it and man was he upset, his people (kids) did it when they put the bike on the stand to service it before pickup. Of course they didn't say anything to him when they did it, only admitted to it when he asked about it. So the cowlings are at the body shop being repainted. The owner said that I could do anything I wanted to them and he would foot the bill so I'm having the body shop spray rock guard on the bottom and then paint it black. The cowlings were all blue. I will post a picture when I get them back, which I hope is today because I want to go for a ride this weekend. I have all the acc. mounted that I have, I'm waiting for the truck rack, bag rails, stubel horn and grips to come in.

Does anyone know where I can find some quality pictures of a 07 Venture for my screen saver? The best I can find is only 400 x 300 and they look like crap on a scren saver.

Found the left side rotor had a .003mm warp on it. So I rode down to the dealer to order a new rotor and this is how I fixed this issue along with any other issue I may have for the next 5 years, see attached picture. Going out to the garage now and finish pulling all my acc of the 03, picking the new 07 up at 2pm today. The mech told me that it was probable there but I didn't notice it until I replaced the pads. The new pads made it more prominent.

WD-40 will remove it, you can also use Goo Be Gone, but I have found the WD to work faster, just spray it on a rag lay the rag on the decal spray some more on the rag (soak it) let it sit a few minutes and the decal should peel off. Repeat directions if as necassary. Clean the area with soap and water when your finished.

I'm on my way out to the garage to work on (try a few ideas I got last night) my front brakes. I will report back later when I have more information on what I find. I want to thank all of you for your help on this.

Squeeze one never has to much information, thanks.

Wife says it's time to watch a movie now so I have to go . I will let you know how things work out tomorrow and thanks all.

Buddy I didn't remove the tire and I don't have any parts left over. Funny that you mentioned the end clip though because I did leave the last one out, had the caliper back on the rotor went to reach for the bolts and low and behold sitting there next to the bolts a funny looking metal clip. Had to take it back apart and intall it since my extra's box was already full I didn't have a place to store it.........LOL I learned not to tilt the caliper on it's side during the install, if you do the pads tend to fall a bit, not completly out but just far enough to get them out of the correct position on the end tabs. This is hard to explain I will have to take of picture of it.

Squeeze the information is good I read it before going out to break in the pads, I didn't get up past 40 because it just didn't feel right so I came home and asked the question that got all this going. Boy it's nice to be in contact with such nice helpful people, it really is. In the old days you were on you own or you had to bring it in for service. If it is a buildup of Cementite how would you go about removing it from the rotors?

Just to relieve my mind because I don’t know. Do pads have a forward? In other words are they directional? Hope you understand my meaning here….

Eck your thinking a bit like me now and that's scary... Your method is something I didn't think of doing but it's worth a try. After giving the rotors a good cleaning in the morning instead of riding around town for a few hours I will try your suggestion on one of the back roads and see what comes of it. Thanks for the input.

Going to clean the rotors in the morning, also going to change the brake fluid though I don't think that has anything to do with the problem I have now but it needs to be done anyway. I may let it go for a few 100 miles around town (lots of stopping at the lights) and see if they wear in some. Thanks for your input its appreciated.

Greg your still under warranty, bring it back to the dealer and see what there mech thinks it is.

I used about two cans of breake cleaner on the calipers, they were dirty, I have about half a can left and I will give them a good cleaning in the morning, thanks for the suggestion.
-
No, but I have that in mind to do anyway.
-
I don't think you can install the pads backwards, can you? I know the first time I did have them backwards and the caliper would not close so I had to turn them around. I may wait awhile and put some more miles on them before I try doing anything else. I may even try bleeding the lines tomorrow, it's about time for new brake fluid anyway.
-
Whats got me stumped here is that I didn't have the problem (or didn't notice it) before yesterday AFTER changing the pads. The warrenty on the bike ran out on 10/11/07, go figure a final drive oil leak and now this. Time for a new bike.

I put a square edge along poth front rotors and they look straight to me. I don't see any gouges or raised edges and I didn't scuff the pads of rotors with emery cloth first, should I have? I don't think thers any oil or grease on the pads, at least I tried not to get them oily.

I changed by brake pads yesterday (front & rear) Man what a pain getting the front ones back in. They kept falling out of the caliper while trying to get them back on the rotors. But I got it after awhile. Now on to my question: Out of the gate I did 15 mph and applied both brakes with little force until stopped. I did this 3 time then increased my speed to 20, 25, 30 then 40 applying the brakes with little force 3 times. I didn't do any practice panic stops with the new pads yet. I noticed that the front brakes grab and then seams to skip then grabs again then skips. This makes the front of the bike jerk so you end up getting a jerky stop. I checked the brake fluid level after changing the pads and both the front and rear reservoirs were full. I didn't have this problem before changing the pads. The old front pads were not that bad in the first place (about half gone) but I changed them because I was changing the rear anyway and figured why not. The back inner pad was down to nothing. Everyone knows that pad wears much faster then any other. So why are the front pads acting strange? Thanks for the help on this one.

Speaking of tools....I carry lots of tools, electrical tape, tie's, VOM, fuses, lamps and duct tape................Why you ask...................To help those Harley rides who break down and are stranded on the side of the road, I have never used a single tool on my ride.

What ever happened to the good old days of 2 black and white snowy channels with 4 or 5 ghosts?

The dealer ordered a replacement for me the begining of April this year, they got it in last week and the replacement is scheduled for Nov 15. Don't ask me why it took so long. I'm thinking it's was because Yamaha had a hard time finding DEL RIO on the map so they didn't know where to ship it. LOL I don't know the name of the rental store that rents Harleys but you can get a used Ultra (40 to 60k miles on them) 05 or 06 for around 16k if you really want a Harley.

Final Drive Oil Leak on 03
Pilot replied to Pilot's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Squeeze what part are you talking about? The o-ring (oil seal) that I'm yalking about is 93211-54698-00 in the parts break down. This seal is between the bearing housing and the final drive case and seals the final drive oil from leaking out as mentioned in this artical: http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002006&id=230 the artical is about rear end noise but if you scroll down in the artical they talk about the seal. I'm not a mechanic by trade but I'm familiar with mechanical things and if there is some thing I'm not seeing your help would be appreciated, thanks. Thanks for your help.
