Being it was a rental the mufflers and air filter were stock. When you get yours change the mufflers to performance mufflers and the air filter to a high flow and you will pick up about 14 more BHP. Remap the EFI and add another 10BHP. All bikes are detuned to meet EPA and the Harley is no exception. I have the 09 Ultra and I don't have any problem with running down the road at the same speed without the cruise. It took a bit of getting used to as far as the electronic throttle was concerned. The only thing I wish the Ultra had is more cockpit room, but I have gotten used to that. If you do your own work you will notice that Harley uses quality stuff, even the connectors are spece shuttle quality. I paid $24K for my 09 with extras last Nov. I was in the dealership yesterday and the Ultra is still $24K with the same extras. Owner said he would not be supprised to see the $$$ come down a bit because of the economy, everyone is hurting including Harley who laid off over 900. You will find things on the Harley and compare them to the Venture for about 2 months. They are both great bikes in their own way. Happy riding.

Your welcome, I will get around to updating the files before riding season sets in. In DE that will be around the middle of March even though I'm hoping for an early spring. Jim

There are phone number attached to some members files. If they didn't provide their phone number I did not include it. Most members did not want to give out their exact GPS coordinates, which is why I used the center of town as a location. The point was to get you close where you could call to get further directions to the members home. I will be happy to update the file with this information if the members wish to give it out. Have a good holiday. Jim

Freebird you need the GPS file extension to load using POI loader. A cvs file is like an Excel file and is just used to edit GPS files. You won't be sorry you went with the 550. Jim

You hit the nail on the head with the finger thing. I went out a few weeks ago on a 40 miles ride when the temperature was at 43 and I could not feel the tips of my fingers for about 30 minutes afterwards. We won't talk about how long it took for other things to feel normal ....LOL

I must be getting older because today I'm heading out to buy some electric clothes. 50 degrees is colder then it was 5 years ago, maybe it has something with that global heating thing people talk about these days....

That was a funny story, Restocking fee was a bit high, I returned a phone to them about a year ago because I found the same phone at Wally Mart for $46.00 less and told them so. They said they couldn't meet the price so they took it back and didn't charge me a restocking fee. The Zumo 550 is around $600.00 unless you buy a re-built one. I have seen them for around $500. You won't be sorry if you get the 550. I had a problem with mine about 3 months ago, the screen would not function correctly. It was out of warranty so I called Garmin's tech support to tell them what the unit was doing. I just wanted to send it back for repair but after talking with them for a few minutes they told me they would replace it for free. They provided me with a return number, I sent it to then the same day and received a brand new one 4 days after that. I have heard other people praise Garmin for service and now I'm convinced. So convinced that I bought my wife a Garmin for Christmas. Good luck in your search, there are many quality units out there to choose from. Jim

I did the same thing 3 months ago, you will really enjoy the handling of a 09 compared to the Venture. Be careful of the torgue and it will take a bit of time to get used to the electronic throttle when you hit a bump in the road. As far as not comming back here, you will....I do. The people here are some of the best you will find anywhere. Happy Holiday. JIm

Great video it brought back some memories. I sold my air force in 04. The price of a gallon of fuel was about $10.00 then I don’t know what it is now but I thing he just burned about $20.00 for that flight. The biggest I ever built and flew was a ¼ scale Fokker bi-plane. It took me about 6 months to build and if I remember correctly I had about $1300.00 in it. Every time I took it to the field I was a nervous wreck thinking something was going to happen and I was going to put it into the ground.

Beer30 if all you want is a STRAIGHT extension and you don't care what COLOR it is. Do a search on ebay for a MIDI CABLE 5 PIN DIN MALE TO FEMALE EXTENSION. You should be able to come up with one that's 3 feet, which should be plenty. I don't want to have to charge you for something you can get for around $5.00 Jim

Sure, no problem. Send me an email at jbissonette1@comcast.net and include your full name, the length of the cable you want (measured from connector end to connector end) along with your mailing address and I'll get it out to you. Jim

I began making helmet extension cables about 2 months ago. Why you ask, because a friend of mine (Harley) was complaining that the stock cable constantly tugged at his helmet, he is 6’ 4”. So I offered to make him a 14” extension. He liked it so much he bought another one for his wife, she liked it also as she said she no longer has to disconnect to dismount. They told their friends at the local HOG meeting and they told their friends and now I’m making about 7 a week. They are made from coiled cable and will extend to 22”. I’m charging $21.00 shipped in the continental US. I have attached a picture of one for you to look at. I thought I would spread the word in case anyone here has the same issue with their stock helmet cable. Besides I need chrome money and it gives me something to do. Being retired is not all that interesting in the winter. WEB SITE: http://home.comcast.net/~jbissonette1/site/ Thanks Jim

1 cup of water 1 tsp baking soda 1 cup of sugar 1 tsp salt 1 cup of brown sugar 4 large eggs 1 cup nuts 2 cups of dried fruit 1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Check the Cuervo again, to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one peastoon of sugar. Beat again. At this point it's best to make sure the Cuervo is still ok, try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick the frigging fruit off the floor. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaters just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who geeves a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the wishdasher. Cherry Mistmas !

They replaced mine 2 months ago when it started acting up. It's out of warrenty and when I called tech support they told me that they had problems with some units doing what mine was doing and that they would replace it free of charge. I mailed my old one back that same day with the RA # and had a brand new (or rebuilt) one in 5 days. I'll always buy Garmin from now on.

First check with Ram Mount and see if they make a motorcycle mount for the one your thinking about. For that price I would venture (no pun intended) to say it is not water proof or motorcycle minded. does it have an audio output jack so that yopu can plug it into your Aux input, if not you will not be able to hear it when riding. Does it have MP3 capabilities, if not then you won't have tunes. With gloves on it will be hard to work. The other motorcycle specific models cost more but it's well worth it. I have the Garmin 550 now and love it. I went thru 3 other car specific GPS's before I ended up spending the money but I have not looked back since. Pilot

Even though I’m riding an Ultra now I still find myself coming back here to see what my Venture friends are up to. I hope you don’t mind. I find myself comparing both bikes all the time. Anyway to the point of this thread. An update on the Ultra and most probable all HD’s, I have finished a few mod’s on the bike and if you ever own an HD you will find this to be true. No matter what you plan on doing it will cost you 1 hundred dollars more then you think it will going into it. Which is where the HD comes into play, HD stands for Hundred Dollars….LOL I love the fact that there's LOTS of extras on the market for an Ultra, which is nice. If you can think of it it's probable available. Other then the money you have to pay for an HD (I'm still getting over that part) I still love it but if Yamaha ever updates the Venture and puts on ABS, Fuel Injection, a better stereo and improves the handling I will seriously look into trading back. I still love the Venture and for the money it’s a great bike. Keep the rubber down. PS: This time of year I wish I was still in TX.

Decided not to buy 2007 venture
Pilot replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is a great site with lots of friendly, helpful people. This is why I keep coming back even though I don't ride a Venture anymore. I don't know how this thread got to be about bike bashing, something that usually does not happen here but it did. I never bashed the Venture, just read thru this thread. In fact I have always said the Venture is a great bike and I enjoyed mine. I never BASHED it so why are some of you insistent on bashing the Ultra? Lets move on. Jim -
Decided not to buy 2007 venture
Pilot replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry to bust your bubble but I traded my 07 in on the Ultra. The bike was 8 months old and had 5387 miles on it. The blue book trade in was 11,495 (high value) I paid 17,800.00 in Texas for the bike 8 months before. That's a 6K + loss. There's plenty of used 07 for sale some on this site and their going to take as much if not more of a loss. This is not to say that you can get a better buy depending on where you live. Everyone knows that a Harley will bring more money then a Venture the mojority of the time. Kelly Blue Book Resale value: 2007 Harley Ultra Classic FLHTCU $17,100.00 2007 Yamaha Royal Star Venture $12,250.00
