  1. I have an 83 engine torn down right now. I don't want to part with one of the cams but I can do some measuring of the hex area if that helps. Let me know.
  2. Thanks for the input. I have been comparing my 85 trunk to pictures of an 87 and the reccessed area where the back rest bolts in looks identical. I like the looks MKII back rest.
  3. Does anyone know if a back rest and arm rests from an 1987 Venture will fit on an 1985 trunk?
  4. I have an 85 with the engine from an 87. So I guess that means one gave it's life so another could live.
  5. Woodworking and restoring old stuff (tools, Cub Cadet Tractors, pedal bikes, and motor bikes) I's fun to take something that has been neglected and make it look and work like new again.
  6. I believe that the starter from an vmax will fit.
  7. I machined them from 1 1/2" dia 6061 alum.
  8. I made my solid mounts from the drawing in this thread. I think they are a great mod. Since I installed them my fingers do not go numb and I have not had to use the cruise control. I would have to say the vibration has decreased since I installed them.
  9. The seat is getting sticky from the age. The vinyl is starting to break down. The seat has no rips or tears but it is sticky. Everything I have tried to clean it has failed.
  10. Has anyone ordered a seat cover from B and H Specialties (http://www.motorcycleseatcovers.com/index.htm). Their prices are good but just wondering if anyone has experience with them and if so are you happy with the replacement cover. The seat on my 85 venture has the stickies and I want to get it replaced. A local guy wants $400.00 to recover the seat and backrest. B and H Specialties would be about $176.00 for both. What are your thoughts?
  11. $1000.00 seems like alot to gain a little extra storage. I too like the MK1 side bags on my 85 but I do have a 1300 engine from an 87 in it now.
  12. The Morgan Carbtune for sure. Ordered mine with Paypal on a Wednesday and it was in my mail box the following Monday from the UK. It works great.
  13. I had a wobble at about 35 mph in my 85. I upgraded the springs to progressives and wobble was gone. I don't put any air in the forks.
  14. I agree, I installed Skydoc's fuse box upgrage. The instructions were great and made the install go smooth. That old fuse box made me nervous. Randy
  15. Sorry I forgot mention that Yooper will need the gasket and crush washer for the middle gear cover also. That cover needs to come off to get the stator cover off. The wires for the stator and pickup coil come out of the case right behind the middle gear cover.
  16. The 3 screws that hold the stator in the cover are m6x1.0 x 45 mm long.
  17. If the bike is a 1st gen the stator runs in oil. I never worked on a 2nd gen so I don't know how they are set up.
  18. I am not sure if I can make it. A family member has a farm and they have hay cut. I don't want to leave them short handed. But maybe they won't need me. I missed out last year due to bailing hay.
  19. He doesn't need a puller to replace the stator. The stator is screwed to the inside of the cover and the screws can be very tight might need an impact tool. It would be a good idea to have new screws also. I have an engine apart right now, I will check out what size the screws are and post that info tonight. Does the new stator come with a new gasket?
  20. Even if it is possible to fix second gear in the bike, I think would much easier to pull the engine out and do it.
  21. Hello everyone, I just did this swap last weekend, 87 engine into my 85 because of dead #2 cylinder. All went well, it fired right up. Let it warm up then did a carb sync and took it for a 13 mile ride then pulled the #1 plug. It looks like it is running very lean (see picture) The carbs are from the 85 1200 which was used daily. No needle mod just a stock setup and new diaphrams last year. It runs great, no hesitation, idles nice and very responsive. Any ideas as to what I should do about the lean condition. Thanks, Randy
  22. During normal operation it should be off (the word off at about 2 oclock) But if your o-ring is bad it will still leak.
  23. I would start over with the oil just so you know that you have the same amount in both sides. I do not use any air pressure in the forks either.
  24. I would drain out the oil that is in there. Use 12oz. of 10 wt. fork oil in each tube (measure carefully) and see how it rides. The service manual says 13.5 oz. but the progressives have a heavier coil than the stock springs and displace more oil.
  25. I have a HF 3/8 drive in ft/lb. My brother took it to the QC dept. of the machining company he works for and had them check it and it was with in 2 ft/lbs. all through the range of the settings. For as much as I will be using it that is close enough for me.
