I just added the light hoods (all five) to my RSV and I haven't noticed any increase in wind noise. I did hear a slight whine from my buddy who rides a wing. My bike gets more lookers than his at "Bike Night".

I was on Hwy 70 east bound in Kingston OK, just north of Lake Texoma, when a I'm sure I passed LA going west bound on his blue Kawi. He had his stuffed gorilla on the trunk. I'm happy to see him on his bike again. :thumbsup2:

PCW Racing Clutch Spring
Kross Kountry replied to tsigwing's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Which clutch is better, PCW or Barnett? Don't care about the price. -
Need carb and clutch help
Kross Kountry replied to Kross Kountry's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The local dealer said that the clutch is always going to slip when the bike is hot and that the Barnett clutch was a piece of crap. I would like to test a bike with a Barnett clutch so could decide for myself. Is it possible to put washers between the bolt heads and the clutch spring to create for more preasure. Kind of a shim. I would like to shim the pilot needles in the carbs but I have had some bad experiences when it come to carbs. If there is anyone near NW Ark. who could help, I would be very grateful. -
Mirror/turn signal question.
Kross Kountry replied to pagenutt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have the same flat glass kuryakyn mirrors on my RSV, without the turn signals, and the flat glass actually gives a more clear image, which is better for judging distance. Just ask any truck diver, cuz I are one. I have no trouble with the size either. I have never seen the ones with the turn signals so if you get some I would like to see some pics. :thumbsup2: -
Need carb and clutch help

Looking under my carbs for the idle mixture screws, I noticed a tear in one of the AIS tubes attached to the manafold nipple. I'm not sure if the dealer did it, but he definetly missed it. I'll still check my idle mixture settings if anyone can tell me how many turnes the factor sets them. Also both my "y" pipes are leaking. Whats the fix for this? -
Need carb and clutch help

Sync is good, no loose bolts or water in tank. Not able to check floats and I don't know which screws set the idle jets. I will keep searching for carb diagram or pics. Thanks -
I just got back from a ten day ride in the Smokey Mts and was it a blast. While I was there a had a couple of issues with my 08 RSV. Before I left home I change my oil, went with 5w-40 rotella syn, and noticed right away that the shifter became very smooth. Two days into the ride it felt like the clutch was slipping as it fully engaged or locked up. The bike would begin to move then it would shutter as I fully released the clutch. At one point we were stuck in stop and go traffic, the bike very warm, the shutter was really bad. That night at the motel I change the oil to 15w-40 rotella, and the clutch smoothed out. Was it the oil, the heat from the engine or do I have some weak clutch springs? As we rode up the to higher altittudes my RSV seem to run better. No chirps, lots of power and very smooth. On day five we dropped down into Maggie Valley and I noticed my bike had a loss of power and a rough idle. We had been riding some wet roads after a good rain so I suspected I had a coil problem. Took the bike into the Asheville NC dealer the next morning and he said that all the plugs, wires and coils were good. I had used some Seafoam a couple of days earlier and he said that he had seen a lot of carb problems caused by Seafoam settling in the float bowl so he drained all the carbs. This just didn't make any logical sence to me but when I got my bike back it was running better. My bike has always had kind of a weak idle and backfires once in a while when you rev it up (sitting still). I should add that I run RK no cat pipes, K&N filters, the air boxes have been opened up and the AIS plugged off. The dealer did check the carb syn and said it was good. Could I have had a little water in one of my float bowls? And is my bike too lean on the Idle jets (needs a shim job)?

We just got home from a ten day trip from NW Ark to BRP and we had a blast. First thing is stay in Maggie Valley (Applecover Inn $45 a nite), Cherokee is a run down trash pit. Best to take the BRP and go around it. We didn't see a single cop on the BRP so we set sail on some of the better sections. Very little traffic just slow down through the tunnels. The pavement in the tunnels was wet and felt a little slick. We found some side roads that were more fun than the dragon. South of Wayonsville you will find Hwy 215 and Hwy 276 (north and south of BRP). The Dragon was ok but the sport bikes cause a lot of problems. Don't even do the Dragon on the weekend, it's best on Mon thru Wed before noon. If you do the Charahola Skyway add three more things to your list: In Tellico Plains 1 - Have lunch at the Town and Square Cafe. Great pizza!!! 2 - Stop at the visiter center museum. Free and they have cool Dragon T-shirts 3 - Go see Bald River Falls on the west end of the skyway (follow signs). The falls are about six mile off the hwy and you can drive right too them (NO Hiking). If you stay in Maggie Valley, take a short trip to "Bogart's" in Waynsville for dinner. Really good steak house!! Hope this helps.

I think I'll jump on that deal. Where do I get replacment tinted wings?

I live and ride in NW AR, and we get a new group of bikes in the area every week. There does seem to be a difference in attatude but when you talk to a few of them you find out that only a few of them acually have an attitude problem. My best friend rides a wing and he's one of the best people you will ever meet. For a long time I thought the HD riders were snobs, but if you have ever experienced the HD death wobble you understand why some of them don't dare turn loose of the grips.

These look pretty good, can you show us how they are attached?

Garmin Nuvi 500, about $400, easy use, no frills, with a very good touch screen. I wouldn't trade mine for any other model. And did I say weather proof. Garmin sells a mount just for motorcycles, about 28 bucks.

Bowtech, The General I've had it now for two seasons and this bow is very smooth and quiet. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

One case of Mountain Light it is. You may have come to NW Ark to pick it up and go for a ride.

Four of us are headed to eastern Tenn. in late June for a six day vacation in the great Smokey Mts. This will be our first extended motorcycle tour and the first time to the area. My wife and I will be on our 08 RSV and our friends are taking thier 08 GLwing with a piggybacker. I would like to hear some about your favorite towns, sites, motels, resturants and twisty roads. Any advise on things to avoid would be welcome as well. Thanks for your help.

I'm considering K&N air filters for my 2008 RSV. Will they help the performance or is it a waste of money. My bike still has the factory exaust.

2008 rsv chirping
Kross Kountry replied to Kross Kountry's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a local dealer in Ft. Smith, AR check out my RSV. He said the carbs were out of sync and it was running way too lean. He thinks that it was suffering from a lean miss when the engine was hot. My bike runs and sounds a lot smoother now. I did still notice a slight chirp but only when the engine was very warm after a long hard hill climb. Thanks for all of the replies. -
My 08 rsv has 950 miles and it has started to chirp at highway speed (60 mph plus). At the same time it vibrates like it has a dead miss. This condition is not constant but will come and go during a long ride. If I stop to rest (15 mins or so), the bike will run great for the next 15 to 20 miles before the chirp and vibration comes back. My fuel mileage so far averages between 35 to 38 mpg. I did the breakin sevice myself at 600 miles and refilled bike with mobil synthetic 10w40 motorcycle oil. Can any one tell me how to kill this criket on steroids? No gear whine so far.
