Reminds me of an ad I read once. "How would you like to go to your mailbox and find lots of envelopes with money in them every day? I'll tell you how! Send $1.00 and a SASE to..." It cracked me up but I saved the buck instead.

Yes, Jack. Please do! I just looked on ebay and saw Motoallsports diaphragms for $60.00 each and they looked like the slides were not included. Is that what you bought?
-
I've been looking for carb diaphragms for a while now and thought I'd post here to let everyone know the best price I've been able to find. Part # 1FK-14940-09-00 is $70.00 plus shipping. Many of their diaphragms are the same price. CruisersPlus.com has quite a selection of diaphragms as well as other parts. I haven't ordered anything from them yet, though. If anyone has any info on them, good or bad, I'd like to hear it. I'm about ready to order now.

That web site is http://plastex.home.att.net/, thanks to Rocket...

Looks like a belt buckle day! Got mine today also - I'm very pleased with it and I appreciate your efforts. Now I just need to find a suitable belt to display it.
-
Hi thom, Did you get my address when I ordered the buckle? I sent it through PayPal and wasn't sure if you got it. Also, I sent you a private message several days ago and never heard anything - just want to confirm you got that message.

Thanks for the reminder, Black Owl. And to all, well-said...

My Venture IS my first bike - wish I'd done this many years ago...

Wow, Bob! How fast do the bees fly in your part of the world?

SilvrT - I LIKE!

Well, I beg to differ - just a li'l bit. These folks just passed through Kansas and, though my riding experience is somewhat limited, it's all been here in Kansas and I'm loving it! If you're passing through from the east and take the time, you could ride through the Flint Hills, which is considered pretty nice in these parts. Also, the road heading west out of Medicine Lodge, though pretty straight, is all hills (called the Gypsum Hills) for about 60 miles with some pretty good western vistas. Both areas, as well as others, are listed in this web site: Motorcycle Roads & Trips - The Best US Motorcycle Rides & Routes You can find some nice rides here if you look for them and string a few together as you cross the state. Not as nice as other places, I'm sure, but I haven't gotten to them yet. BTW, I'm not in the habit of defending the honor of Kansas - I'm from Florida - but this is where I ride.

That's what I get for answering the phone while writing a post! Thanks, guys! I'll try synching tomorrow also.
-
Thanks, George. I'll try that tomorrow after work. I recently had the cables apart for another reason and checked for fraying, particularly on #3. None there. I lubed all the cables and linkages at that time. But it was a quick lube - I didn't spend a lot of time there.

I'll sign on for that, thom. Looks cool!

I was wondering if someone has any experience with a "racing engine" problem on a first gen Venture. Mine will start running at a higher RPM (about 1500) after a short time in city traffic. It doesn't seem to be stuck cables. The throttle retracts all the way and I can bring it under control at a stop by holding the brake and feathering the clutch in first gear - 1 or 2 times brings it back down to normal. The real problem is any longer diving at highway speeds. After an hour at highway speed the engine will run at 3k when I stop. The clutch method above works but as soon as I let it go, the engine starts climbing to about 3k. It doesn't jump up to 3k but I sure wouldn't call it a creep either. Anyone have any ideas? MikeC

Check the idle speed before Carbtune
MikeC replied to Canuck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How long did it take to get your carbtune? Mine arrived in Kansas 5 days after I ordered it! -
Mini-muffin, that's awesome! Thanks for pointing it out and thanks much to Juggler for putting it out there. Very cool! Dan, it's a large file so the download will take a while. I'm getting it now on cable - looks like it will take about 15 - 20 mins. to download. If you don't have it already, you'll need Adobe Acrobat to view it. If needed, it's free here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html When it is done select File, Save As, and note the file name provided (change it if you like) and where it is to be stored (drive:directory), and click Enter.

BTW, E2 is "Air pressure does not rise when the air compressor is operated."

Try Repairmanuals.com. I got mine there, it was the best price I found that could actually deliver one.

Glad to give you a grin, Brian. Your dad sounds like a wise man Seriously, I'm riding my first bike with the '87 and I got it in September so the coldest I've ridden in (so far) is 38. I plan on riding as much as I can this winter, conditions permitting, so I may be able to report single digits in a couple of months.
-
About -30* for me - couldn't really tell what the wind chill was, but I didn't actually ride. Figured with all that ice on the ground it wasn't safe. So I picked up my '87 and carried it 6 miles to work, hoping it would clear up by afternoon. It didn't. Had to carry it back too. Uphill both ways...

Hey Dave, Sorry to go off-subject, but how did things go with your starter switch?
