The adapter I made attaches to the bike via center stand mounts. Bigfoot....send me a PM with your address and I will see what I can do about a shipping price. The jack is fairly heavy so it may not be worth it. It locks into place so you don't have to worry about leak down. I think they can be purchased for about $60.00. May cost more to ship than a new one. If that is the case, you are still welcome to the adapter.

I have a motorcycle/ATV jack and a home made adapter for a RSV. (don't let the word home made scare you, it works well) I ordered a lift table Friday from Complete Hydraulics. The lift table should be here Friday or so. If it works out like it should, I won't be needing the jack and adapter. If you pay for the shipping, you can have them. I don't know what shipping would be from GA.

Does anyone have a burned up stator??????
raceman62race replied to raceman62race's topic in General Tech Talk
Just got one from danob11. At first glance, it looks like I will be able to rewind it stock no problem. I'll let you know if I can beef up the windings so it won't burn up as easy.- 15 replies

You all would get a big kick out of us when it snows in the south. We usually get to see snow about one time per year and then it's only an inch or so that doesn't last but a day or two. As soon as the weather channel starts predicting snow, business start closing down, grocery stores run out of milk and bread. Schools start announcing closings and factories shut down. It's like the whole world stops and everyone goes home for the "big snow". The schools even have "snow days" built into their schedule so they can close a day or two whenever it snows. Since it only snows once per year, it isn't economically wise for towns to purchase salt/sand spreaders and snow plows. We don't get enough experience to learn how to properly drive in snow either so it is probably best for everything to close down and everyone stay home. I'm not telling you a line of bull....that is really the way it is even if snow is just mentioned for our area.

How are yall getting the temperture on your signature?

It's going to be cold in GA for the next couple of days. Lows in the 20's....I know, that's not cold for someone from the north.......... But, they are predicting the weather to slowly start warming up and be in the upper 70's by next Sat. Sounds like some good winter time riding weather is just around the corner for us!!

Just got it home today. I added some driving lights. The 90 Virago doesn't have a gas gauge. How many miles can we expect to get out of a tank?

I'm sure the wife is going to go banannas Christmas morning. I think I am gong to wrap the key in a small box and put it in her stocking. She'll be looking for something big under the tree and there won't be anything. She'll probably start wondering what the #$^@ is going on. This Virago has after market pipes and it really does sound sweet. Hate to admit it but it does sound better than the RSV!!

Thanks for the info, I didn't think it was doing anything. Cerberus, There is a 94 Virago 1100 on Athens GA Craigslist for $1800.00. Pics look sharp

Does the carbs on a 1990 Virago 1100 have accelerator pumps? Reason I was asking is because I went to look at one last night and before the guy cranked it up, he rolled the throttle wide open several times before he tried to crank it. It cranked right up as soon as he hit the starter switch but it seems useless to roll the throttle open if it doesn't have pumps. It seemed to run out well and I bought it for a Christmas present for the wife....haven't gotten it home yet...trying to surprise the wife Christmas day

Just wondering if anyone has a 1st generation charging stator that is burned up that I might be able to talk you out of? I have some ideas that I want to experiment with and I need an old burned up/damaged stator

which GPS is the best now???
raceman62race replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Sorry to hear that Dr Bar. I haven't had mine in a hard rain but I have had it in a couple of showers and it didn't harm it at all . I haven't had to deal with Magellan at all. I know that it is frustrating when the factory doesn't stand behind their product. -

raceman62race replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I use a Magellan 2500T Crossover. It is water tight and is versatile. It can be booted in the outdoor mode and be used like a portable hand held or booted in the marine mode. Thus the name crossover. It can also be use as a marine GPS if you load marine maps or install a memory card in the expansion slot with marine maps on it. It will also give you a list of restaurants, motels, parks and many other points of interest complete with address and phone numbers. It is a MP3 player as well as a photo viewer. It will remove from the handlebar mount in seconds and can be installed in an automobile. The quick and easy removal has its pros and cons......The easy removal makes it easy for someone to steal. It doesn't come with the handlebar mount but it does come with a windshield mount for and automobile. YOu can charge the batteries and it will last for abbout 8 hours or you can plug it into the cigerette lighter. I'm not sure if Magellan still makes them but I just looked on ebay and you can get a factory refurbished one from $100.00 - $200.00 and a motorcycle mount for another $12.00. I've been impressed with mine. -
I learned how to fix Ymaha rear end whine
raceman62race replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Jerry, How often do you gauge your tires? -
I'm no expert but I have been well pleased with mine. I have a Magellan 2500T Crossover. I can plan routes on my computer and download but I usually just punch in a destination on the GPS screen. I don't think it will work well with gloves. I paid $200.00 new on Ebay. It comes with a car windshield mount but I was able to find a handlebar mount off of Ebay as well. It will snap right off the bike and I can install it in the car in a matter of seconds. It is also water tight because it can actually be used as a marine GPS if you install a card in the expantion slot with marine maps. It has capability of plugging into the aux jack in the steereo but I usually just listen to the radio and follow the on screen directions. It will tell you at any time how many miles the next turn and the name of the street you will be turning onto so that is why I just follow the onscreen directions. It will also work for hunting like a hand held, thus the name Crossover: marine, auto and handheld. I've been well pleased with mine. I'm not sure if Magellan is still making this exact model because I have had mine about 1 year. It comes with a cigerette lighter plug and I plug her right into the cigerette plug on the bike. I don't know if all GPS's are the same as far as the mount goes but mine snaps off of the handle bar mount very easily. So when we stop at a resturant or any other time I am not going to be right next to the bike, I remove it from the mount and put it in the saddle bags or trunk because it would be very easy for someone to steal. If it didn't remove from the mount so easy, I might consider leaving it on the bike when I am not in plain view of it. The easy removal has its obvious advantages too! I think most all GPS's are generally the same. Some have options that others don't but the navigation part is all pretty much standard. One thing is to make sure you can get a good way to mount it on your bike. I wouldn't suggest using the suction cup mount that is intended for the windshield on your car for mounting on the bike.

I learned how to fix Ymaha rear end whine
raceman62race replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I did get rid of the orginal tires. Bought some Dunlop Elite III's. I try to run about 40 PSI in my tires as well. I contacted Bridgestone to see what they said about M/C tires loosing air and their response was they loose, on average, about 1 PSI per month and about 1 PSI for every 10 deg. of temperture drop. I have gotten to where I gauge them about every 2 weeks or before a long trip and of course I do a quick visual inspection every time I get on it....haven't had to add air so far and I have had them for about a month. -

I learned how to fix Ymaha rear end whine
raceman62race replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
On mine, it wasn't hard to figure out that the whine was coming from the rear.....all you had to do was turn your head sideways and lean over a little. ( be carefull with the driving while you do this) Mine had gotten really loud. I usually listen to the radio with the volume set around 14 and just before I got the rear end fixed, I had to crank it up to 17 just to hear the radio over the whine. Like JerryK was saying, there was no load on the rear with the clutch pulled in. But keep in mind that there are bearings in the rear as well as gears and if you have a bearing going bad, it might whine all the time....coasting with clutch pulled in or under power) I think my issue was the gears weren't wearing in properly. I had to get a Yamaha rep to ride my bike to verify the rear end was bad. I was told by the service manager that the Yamaha rep said it was critical to get the rear end installed correctly.......make sure the axle slides in and out freely so nothing is binding. -

raceman62race replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had to have my rear end changed at 2500 miles. It was a very loud whine....now she sounds good. Somewhere in here someone started a thread that talked about some dealer checking the axle to see if it was bent. I believe the thread said they had found 5 Ventures with bent axles......they weren't bent much, just a few thousands of an inch. If we are somehow bending the axles, that would explain why it would be hard to remove and it would put the final drive in a bind consequently needing shimming at the drive shaft tube.......couldn't find the thread...does anyone else remember reading this? I have raelly had a hard time with my dealer but Yamaha has been great in fixing the noise. One thing mine did was the noise would go away if you pulled in the clutch and you could only hear it while under power. It would seem like if it were the basket, it would be there all the time.....coasting or under power. I would be courious to see if the gap moved if you rotated the axle while the 4 bolts were loose. -
Sorry to hear about your accident. I really hope and pray you have a fast recovery. I started riding at the age of 9 on a dirt bike...a little Yamaha 60. My Dad had a 25 acre farm and I rode as hard and fast as I could all over the 25 acres. As I got older, I graduated up on bikes until I ended up with a KX250. I took quite a few 50 + MPH spills on the 250....never broke any bones but did have to take time out to heal. I always climbed right back on as quick as I could. When I got drivers license, I started riding street bikes. My style of driving didn't change: I rode as fast and hard as I could. I had a few close calls and they were all my fault from excessive speed. I would always tell myself that the next time I get back on my bike, I was going to ride the speed limit. But, I would be back to my old self going as fast and hard as I could on the very next ride. No need to explain the close calls but I finally realized if I wanted to live, I was going to have to give up riding. I just couldn't control myself once I got on a bike. When I was 22 years old, I sold my motorcycles. I always dearly loved riding. I went without riding until I was 40 years old. I missed it terribly! At the age of 40, I felt like I didn't have that "need for speed" and I felt like I could ride more maturely. I bought a cruiser. I am glad to say that I have lost the need for speed and I now ride the speed limit. It was just a maturing thing for me. I am now 46 and I have been riding almost every day since I was 40. Most of my riding is in a very rural part of GA and if I were to go down, I don't think I would give up riding but we are all different. I have told my wife and friends that if I die on a bike, at least I died doing something I love. This is a slightly different attitude than what I had when I was younger but the way I drive when I was younger, I was difenetly going to take a bad spill. I know there will come a time when I will have to give up riding because of age, health and many other reasons. That time will come sonner for some and later for others. Either way, it is something we have to work out within ourselves. I think when the time comes, you will know it! As far as the attorney goes....I always felt like it was my responsibility to evaluate the road, entrances, weather........and determine if my skills would allow me to ride safely. As someone said previously, unless there is a purposely placed trap, I would feel like a spill would be my fault no matter how many other bikes have spilled in the exact same spot. There are wrecks on the dragons tail weekly and no one is making a case against the state. But that is just my 2 cents worth! Hope you heal quickly!

i don't know much about computers but I use linux as an operating system and ubuntu as an interface and I really like it. The man who does my computer work says for now I'll be pretty safe as far as viruses and other things we don't want on our computers because most of that stuff is designed to work through windows. There are thousands of free programs avalible for ubuntu and so far I really like it. You can get a copy here for free http://www.ubuntu.com/

You can get a good one from http://www.completehydraulic.com/ It is sort of expensive but it is stable.I have a friend that owns one and from time to time I use his. Been thinking about getting one for myself
