1. All carburetor vehicles seem to have their own system for starting. At least the owners find a way that seems to work for them. It took me a while, but, I finally realized that all vehicles with carbs have the same issue; The fuel evaporates from the float bowl if left sitting. This leads to a lot of cranking until fuel gets pumped into the bowls. However, if you have an electric fuel pump, allow the pump to fill the bowl(s) before you try starting. Realize that a safety device will shut off the fuel pump after a few seconds if the engine is not running. I cycle the key on/off for a few seconds until I no longer hear the pump running. This same procedure works on EFI vehicles that have sat for a long time, or have a problem that releases the pressure in the fuel rails.
2. I am pretty sure we are on the same page here . . . Thanks for the valuable info!
3. The advantage of a carb like the Q-jet is it's ability to self-tune for elevation changes and different loads. It has a power valve for the mains and the vacuum controlled secondaries. Does your Holly have a power valve or something similar? Does the '83 Escort carb that I just ordered have a power valve?
4. My '85 VR has Vmax cams and springs stuffed in an '87 version 1300 engine/trans. The carbs gave me so much trouble that the bike has been gathering dust for about 2 years. I have been brooding over how to put a Q-jet on it to take advantage of the vacuum secondaries. A friend gave me a fresh carb from an '85 Camaro v6. It is basically half of a Q-jet. The problems with using this carb are numerous; It is made for a 3.8L engine with smog controls. This thread showed me another carb with vacuum secondaries and jetted for a 1.6L. I think this is very close to what I need for my maxVR! I found a new carb on ebay for $55 and ordered it . . .
5. I have been using CCleaner for years. It was recommended by an IT reviewer and I use the free version. Cleaning junk and registry are the one-two punch, the ability to turn off programs that start at boot is my favorite part of CCleaner. The only thing I allow to start at boot is my virus protection. It is amazing to me that every program that is loaded on my computer thinks it has to run all the time. They don't . . . FYI: I need to mention that Windows 10 updates have disabled CCleaner twice on my one computer running Windows 10. No real explanation has surfaced. Because I saved the free version to the hard drive, all I had to do was reinstall it. There appears to be a Windows 10 version of CCleaner now. I guess I should try it.
6. What he said . . . I regularly saw the oil light when hammered down on my '85 with the Vmax cams
7. The front forks have collars for the air suspension that will not allow the forks to be slid up in the trees. Since you have removed the air in front, you may be able to remove the collars and somehow seal the holes. Then the fork legs can be slid up. Front wheel travel is 5.5 inches stock. Ground clearance in back is at a premium. The rear wheel travel is only 4.1 inches and I easily drag my center stand riding double. You might be able to run less air in the rear shock to get her down, but, I would suggest removing the center stand. Modifying the seat is probably the better idea. Use foot pegs instead of floor boards along with the modified seat . . . Good Luck!
8. We got her from a breeder and he had her scent gland removed at 4 weeks. We picked her up when she was 5 weeks old.
9. Careful . . . The NAAP (North American Association of Polecats) has determined that the word "stinker" can be interpreted as a racial slur
10. Ladies and gentlemen; I am pleased to introduce you to our new baby . . . Miss Kitty Great pet. She doesn't jump or climb. She makes very little noise. And likes playing with our 60 lb. puppy. She was about 7 weeks old in this photo and now is 12 weeks old and 4 lbs. Kitty eats mostly puppy food mixed with fruit Yogurt (Strawberry-Banana) and June Bugs. She is sorta litter box trained because she will use one if handy. We took her to a pet expo. One lap around the building would normally take 30 minutes, it took Miss Kitty 2.5 hours. We took her to the pet expo on the '92 VR, her first ride. She handled it very well.
11. Below is the latest response from K&S Technologies. They are still bleeting that the boots are not for a Venture, and they think it is reasonable that I take my forks apart and leave them that way while I go through their return policy; ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gary; 1) The part number on the picture is 0460-0030 not the 0460-0330 (you had listed) which is our distributor's part number and why we didn't recognize it as ours. 2) We have not been selling these fork boots for very long. 3) Applications for the K&S 16-3009 clearly states they are for Triumphs New Bonnevilles OE: A9638018 not for Yamaha's. Products should be used on models they were specifically designed to be used. 4) If you believe that the product is defective please return it place of purchase as per their return policies. ALL of our products are at our distributors, ALL of our warranties are though our distributors. Sincerely, K&S ** DO NOT REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL **
12. It is sad when a company fails to support their product or products. That is what has happened with the fork boots from K&S Technologies. The following is for your information. It is the email thread to K&S and their absolute refusal to acknowledge a failure of their product. Please be aware when making future purchases from this company . . . I have not been contacted again by K&S Technologies. It appears they are not responsive to customer service issues. If I am contacted and they choose to rectify the issue, I will let everyone know . . . I am sorry if others have purchased these fork boots because of my recommendation. Regards, GaryZ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To: K&S Technologies In June 2016 I bought a Fork Boot Kit #0406-0330 and put it on my '92 Yamaha Venture Royale. The dimensions were perfect and it seemed to fit like it was made for my forks. Now it is August and the right side boot has split in 2 places. I am not happy. I am especially not happy after telling all the Venture owners on my forum about this kit. Gary Oklahoma City, OK

K&S Technologies Replied:

The part number you listed is not our part number. Our part number is always listed on the product packaging. We offer 6 Fork Boots and none are specific to the model motorcycle you requested. We recommend you contact the place of purchase for ther manufacturer information, specifically the mfr part number. Thank you for your inquiry. K&S ** DO NOT REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL ** To: K&S Technologies Here is a picture of the package and you can see clearly see it is your product. The following picture shows the installation and the failure. The dealer I bought them from has looked at the failure and feels the rubber failed, probably from old age. He bought them from your distributor. I told you in my first email the boots are installed on a 1992 Venture Royale. I purchased your product because the dimensions were exactly right for my application. You telling me it is the wrong application is ludicrous and a weak excuse. The product that I purchased has sat on a shelf for a long time and rotted. I think K&S Technologies needs to send me a good set of boots or refund my money. This would be good customer service and would be cheerfully related to the members of my Venture Forum. 13. I picked up a used rotor at a shop in South Oklahoma City for $50. Sometimes you just get lucky . . .
14. Bubber, Where are the details of this meet; Location, hotels, camping, etc?
15. The rear rotor of a Gen 1 MKII is 320mm and 5mm. Page 6-12 of my manual specifies the minimum as 4.5mm.
16. The Gen 1 MKI ('83 - '85) has 298mm rotors on the front and rear. The Gen 1 MKII ('86 - '93) has a 320mm rotor on the rear and 282mm rotors on the front.
17. EBC wants over $200 for Venture brake rotors. I am skeptical of the EBC listing because they say all three rotors are the same . . . They are NOT BTW: I found a used rear brake rotor at a local motorcycle salvage for $50. Sometimes I get lucky!
18. I did a little more research and found the mounting bolts are spaced at 216mm on a Gen 2 vs 150mm on the MKII. . . No Joy
19. The specs say the Gen 2 rear rotor is 320mm x 7mm vs my rotor at 320mm x 5mm. Anyone tried using the Royal Star Venture rear rotor on a Gen 1 MKII ???
20. My '92 Venture Royale has chewed up the 320mm rear brake rotor. There are no used ones on ebay. Anyone have a good one they want to sell?
21. Replaced the fork boots on my '92 while I had the forks tore down for seals and springs. A local independent motorcycle shop found these with the exact sizes top and bottom, and they worked great! I pinched the bottom with the fork brace and reused the top clamp from the original boots.
22. I recommend removing the plastic spacer and only using the aluminum one with the o-ring. This will lower the front end around 3/4" and should get your feet on the ground. If the front is too soft, you can add a little air. Setting up a motorcycle suspension is dependent on the rider and his/her needs/wants. My starting point is to adjust the spring pre-load for for at least 1" of sag when you sit down on the seat. I also will "bounce" on the seat and adjust so both the front and back move together and about the same distance. I then ride around at a low damping rate and add damping until I like the ride. Adjusting the sag is easy with the air suspension on the VR. Damping takes a bit more effort. The VR back has a damping adjust, the front requires changing the fork oil weight or the amount of oil.
23. Most utility trailers use the same wheel pattern. I know of one carpenter that would leave his trailer on the job site with the wheels removed. One Monday morning he found the trailer gone. According to a witness the thieves brought their own wheels/tires and hauled it away. As someone else has said, the best you can hope for is to make stealing your trailer too difficult. I like the idea of a steel bar through the wheels (left to right) with a cap on one end and a steel cup for the lock on the other side. The steel cup will not allow simple cutters to reach the lock.
