  1. I have located a MKII headlight for my MKI and need the MKII headlight brackets/mounts. Anybody parting out a MKII? How about a photo of the area behind the MKII headlight?
  2. I did a couple of laps today . . .
  3. Dang forest rats . . .
  4. Many folks customize their scoots with fancy paint and chrome stuff. Many others cannot understand why one would change anything. I want my VR to run better - faster - quicker and look a certain way without getting too far away from the stock handling and ride. The Vmax rear tire is wider and looks more aggressive, and darn few VR's are running around wearing Vmax wheels.
  5. Excellent new info for my library! I did not know the newer trucks had two speed sensors. What year did they add the second?
  6. This pick up sensor replaces the old speedo drive on the tail-shaft and is called "Vehicle Speed Sensor" or VSS. The VSS sends vehicle speed information to the computer. If the VSS fails, the speedo fails and the automatic transmission will go into "Limp Home Mode" and it will only have 2nd gear to move forward when selector is in 1-2-D-OD.
  7. OK, I have done a little research in the VR and Vmax manuals. I then calculated the tire dimensions. It would seem that putting a Vmax rear tire on a VR would increase the tire width by about 1/2" (1/4" per side). My 1985 VR has about 1/2" of clearance between the driveshaft and the edge of the rear tire. The VR rear tire height appears to be 25.92" versus the Vmax at 25.64". This translates to making the VR only 0.14" closer to the ground. The wildcard here will be the tire manufacturers seem to have slightly different dimensions for the same size. However, this makes me think if I come across a good deal on Vmax wheels/tires, I might pick them up! 1985 VR Tires front = 120/90-18-65H 120mm or 4.50/4.75" wide 108mm or 4.25" sidewall rear = 140/90-16-71H 140mm or 5.50/6.00" wide 126mm or 4.96" sidewall Vmax Tires front = 110/90V-18 110mm or 4.00/4.75" wide 99mm or 3.90" sidewall rear = 150/90V-15 150mm or 6.00/6.25" wide 135mm or 5.32" sidewall
  8. This is a very interesting carb tuning instruction found on a Vmax site; http://www.vmaxoutlaw.com/tech/cv_carb_tuning.htm
  9. The Vmax engine and trans can be installed in the VR. The differential can be installed in the VR. You're saying the Vmax has something different in the rear wheel assembly? It's got a wider swing arm and rear wheel?
  10. Has anyone put Vmax wheels and tires on their VR? Is there any potential problems? Inquiring minds want to know . . . Thanks!
  11. Eddie said: 2010 Voyager blows new Venture away What a nice bike . This thing has the all stuff we have been crying about for years. I spent close to an hour with this bike at the show yesterday and can tell you there will be one in my stable shortly. I watched two Hd guys try to pick this bike apart, they walked away saying "they did it". A modern day Ultra. Priced with the Venture, not the HD . It a shame that yamaslow is letting this market pass them by. I love my Midnight but just like to try different things. Freebird said: I'm just not hearing great reports from people who have ridden and bought them. Eddie answered: Well we all know how that goes, the next guy from a Kaw site could say it's the best bike he's ever had. The sound system alone is enough for me. Since I do 99% of my riding alone the music is my company. Freebird said: The Kaw costs “Far more than the RSV. One other thing I noticed was that it requires premium gas.” Eddie answered: The Venture showed a price tag just under 20,000 at the show. The base on the Kaw was just under 18000. About 2000 worth of audio acc and your neck and neck. Eck said: I have heard from several owners that they shift very hard and "clunk" real loud, and as already mentioned the heat from the engine is unbearable on really hot days. Eddie answered: The clunk the whine the vibation the bad shock the oil leak the frame crack. They all got them. Jerry W said: The 2010 Voyager blows Eddie answered: You got it wrong , the 2010 RSV with its new flamer stickers blows. What a cheap thing to do to a nice bike. GaryZ said: Eddie, your posts pretty much tell us that you have made up your mind. You do not need to keep defending your decision. Buy it and ride! Eddie answers: Thanks for the permission, the idea of this thead is to see what the guys that have an open mind have to say about this bike. Loehring says: never buy the first year of ANYTHING Eddie answers: It came out last year GaryZ says: Show me your open mind . . . It ain't above
  12. Eddie, your posts pretty much tell us that you have made up your mind. You do not need to keep defending your decision. Buy it and ride!
  13. Can you add a pressure regulator?
  14. As was already said, a battery will last longer if kept charged. I once had a Yamaha XS650SE and the battery would go dead in about 10 days. I was starting it with the electric starter, riding 2.5 miles to work, starting it after work and riding home. The battery never had a chance to charge! I solved that problem by kick-starting the beast on work days. You'all remember kick-starters?
  15. Boomer, I had a similar experience recently. Went to a specialist. I filled out the ream of paperwork about who and how payment would be made. As I was waiting to be ushered into the lavish examining room (not), a thought crossed my aged brain-pan . . . What other business in the world can demand payment before service and offer no guarantee? There is a reason doctors are said to "practice" medicine
  16. A friend of mine had a similar accident. He was driving a 1987 Impala and hit a top-of-the-line Lexus. The head-on collision not only stopped the Lex dead in its tracks, the Impala pushed it backwards nearly 30 feet! Let's examine the law of physics and how it will apply to this video demonstration. 1959 Chevrolet Impala - curb weight = 4221 lbs 2009 Chevrolet Impala - curb weight = 3555 lbs Does anyone else see a problem? If the speeds in the test were equal, the 700 lb heavier 1959 should have pushed the 2009 backwards or significantly spun it around. I think the "crush zone" designs in new cars is great and the 2009 shows superior cockpit protection. However, the 1959 should have pushed the 2009 around a lot more and it makes me doubt the entire test.
  17. It's likely only water or something that had got on that cylinder and dried.
  18. My wife got me a 22" Acer flatscreen monitor for my computer, and officially 14.1" of snow in Oklahoma City; This after I had cleared a path twice! http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o318/GaryZ_photos/pics028b.jpg
  19. My MKI saddle bags and top-box pop right off and go in the motel room . . .
  20. I have found that my VR is very smooth at or above 4k. The power is excellent! However, unlike others here, my mpg's drop to 32 - 35 when I run a tank at the higher RPM. Running in the low 3k range my mpg's are close to 40!
  21. I was stationed in Iceland with the Air Force in 1979. Shipped my 1964 GMC van over and drove it around for nearly a year. In 1979 - 80 about 70% of the roads in Iceland were dirt. It was very smooth dirt, but, they were still dirt. The miles and miles of dirt roads wore out the door hinges on my van! The locals are beautiful people. I mean it. The problem with my stay was that the locals will not talk to a stranger until they have been introduced by someone they know. This made meeting and getting to know one of their beautiful women very difficult . . .
  22. I ordered and received an ETX18L from Josh. Delivery was prompt and the thing fit like the original. The contacts are larger on this battery and the stock rubber boot will not cover the positive post. I cut and shaped the red plastic cover that came on the new battery and it works perfect. The difference is amazing. I have suffered poor cold starting and poor hot starting issues for a long time. The old battery seemed to be good. It did not sag below 9V during initial cranking. However, it would run down somewhat rapidly. It is now my opinion the ignition system of my VR is very sensitive to voltage sag. The new battery has very little sag during cranking and the engine kicks off immediately. BTW; My VR has the original battery cables, starter and starter relay. For those riders that have hard starting VR's . . . Get A New Battery!
  23. This thread makes me wonder about the radar reflection a VR will produce. Most motorcycles are difficult for radar to pick up. Anybody have info and want to share?
  24. Take it to a CB shop (usually found near truck stops) and let them put a new cable on
  25. Fuseable link can be purchased at the dealer. I drew a picture of the thing (looks like a little open-end wrench) and sent my wife to the dealer. She brought home the right part and an extra one. Maybe 50 cents apiece . . .
