'Bags are painted two-tone

The bright, multi-color paint jobs on bikes over the last few years are not my cup of tea. My hot-rod pick up is white. My Astro van is white. My trailer is white. My Ninja is charcoal gray (only a few motorcycles can pull off white). I do not care for gaudy vehicles, although a few simple pin stripes might be good. I think an original 1985 VR looks dated. The goal with my VR was to try and make it look like a newer model sport-touring machine. I removed or painted a bunch of the chrome. I covered the beast with a single color, except for the black on the 'bags. Jean has nailed my design approach . . . Less Is More Thanks Jean. Maybe I will get a chance to give you a ride sometime! -
OK gang, another update on the continuing changes to my beast; I painted the bike gray with clear a couple of months ago. I also painted the windshield trim black. I like it a lot. However, the top-box and 'bags looked huge in gray primer. One of the new BMWs has its 'bags painted black on the back-half. I think this makes them look smaller. Here are pics of my two-tone top-box and 'bags . . . What do ya think?

OK gents, I need to tow my 1st gen VR in a trailer. My sport bike handlebar harness won't reach across the buck-horn bars. What is the recommended method for tie-down?

My 2 cents; Wind is a constant companion in Oklahoma. My ZX11 gets blown about a lot by side winds. Not so much head-on or tail wind. The VR Beast is probably half as sensitive to side wind! Head-on and tail wind is the same. Dunlop E3 @ 45lbs

Pan, I cut down my stock windshield about 4" and hated it. Air turbulence and noise increased significantly. I have since bought a new windshield. Also I rode the beast for a few months without fairing and windshield. The air flow over the instrument pod was smooth, hit me just below the nose (6'2") and about the same as my double-bubble shield on my Ninja. Next spring I am going to try cutting my old windshield down to barely above the instrument pod. Maybe I'll even paint it to match the bike . . .

I just got a Goldwing trunk rack for my VR on ebay. Nobody else bid and I got it for $19.99 + 13 shipping. I think that's a pretty smokin' deal!

After I did a SeaFoam treatment I still had one carb with low speed circuit issues. I turned in and counted the adjustment screw and then removed it. I stuck the little red straw on my carb cleaner can as far up the circuit as possible and gave it a good few squirts. This seemed to clear up my problem enough to run steady SeaFoam mixed gas for the next couple of tanks. My beast seems to run better the more I ride at speed. I think I will try running 100% gas for a while and see if there is a difference . . .

I recommend always doing a theft report. It may not help you immediately, but, it provides a paper-trail for situations like yours and it can be used to identify problem areas for more police presence/coverage.

I have noticed this noise on a couple of different bikes. The 1200 engine and now the 1300 engine made this 'marbles in a pan' noise in neutral with the clutch released. Left side. I have decided it is normal for some bikes . . . Anyone?

Old, contaminated brake fluid will give your brakes a spongy feel and your clutch will feel inconsistent on release. I change my brake and clutch fluid every two years. I simply pump the old fluid out while pouring new in. You can buy fancy tools for this job or do it old-school . . . Route a plastic or rubber hose from the air bleed screw to a can or bottle. The hose should fit snug on the air bleed screw. Pump the handle and hold, open the air bleed screw and release the fluid. Close the air bleed screw. Add new fluid before the master sucks air. Repeat until fresh fluid is coming out the hose. Done

I ride the area between I-40 and Eureka Springs every year with a group of sport bike friends. This year we had lunch at that General Store in Oark. Great road, good scenery, little traffic, and nice people. I recommend a lunch stop if you are in the area . . .

I have found that going really, really fast on my sport bike is easy. Stopping is the hard part. I pinned the throttle for about two miles in 6th gear once. No, I did not look at the speedo (darn). Caught up to traffic and decided the fun was over. You know you are going way too fast when rolling off the throttle compresses the fork springs! Lightly touched the brakes and the front-end started to shimmy. Grit my teeth, firm grip on the bars, apply lots and lots of both brakes, slowed to sane speed. I now have a personal top speed and will not go above it . . . 150mph

Maybe Venture riders should point down the Vulcan 'Live Long & Prosper" sign for V4?
