Well, I had the radiator flushed and pressure checked . . . No leaks. The problem has to be one of the hoses behind the cap, just like two responses here! Another issue may have raised its head; I found oil drops the size of quarters and nickels in my coolant, and the shop said they found oil in the radiator. The small amount suggests to me that oil may have dripped into the cooling gallery around the cylinders when I did the valve job. Comments?

I will check Napa in my area . . . Usually it's $9.95

Yesterday I bought Sea-Foam at Northern Tool & Equipment; $6.49 for 16oz can!

I left a trail of coolant coming home yesterday. Flashlight exam showed the stuff bubbling out of the front of the radiator! Can this radiator have the core replaced?

I guess the point is; white/gray smoke is probably not oil -

White/gray smoke would normally be fuel. -
I've recently heard that if you mix three portions of Hydrogen Peroxide to one part of water it does a great job cleaning the windscreen and costs practically nothing.

What color is the smoke? -
My 'mute' switch caused me some grief once . . .

You may try sliding the fork tubes up a little in the triple-trees to reduce the ride height. This will probably make the steering a bit 'quicker'.

I would start my turn and finish the turn in the same 'track'. Start on the inside, finish on the inside

I would love to build one of these for the street using a Venture Royale and Vmax engine! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-R6-Turned-Into-Street-Quad-Must-SEE-R1-YFZ-450-RAPTOR-700-R-/270833791592?pt=US_motorcycles&hash=item3f0ef3b268#v4-39 Can this thing be street legal in your state?

Still have strong gas smell. The gas cap no longer releases pressure when I open it. I removed the California canister a couple of years ago and I have had no problems until now. A friend suggested a vent tube was cracked or loose. However, I cannot remember what I did to modify the tubing. Where can I find the California set-up in the manual?

Wiring Polk rear speakers for true stereo sound
GaryZ replied to 1BigDog's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I do not see rear speakers standard on the Gen 1 MKII schematic, only the fronts. Why do you think they would be mono? Speakers and power amps: Your power amplifier is rated at a max power into a specified load. I think the stock speakers are 4 ohms and the power amp is rated into 4 ohms. If your Polk speakers are 8 ohms, you can parallel two speakers per channel for 4 ohms. Half the amplifier power will go to each speaker. -
That baby was a steal for only $400! How many miles on it?

I've had this happen in a car, but first time on a bike.
GaryZ replied to jrsain's topic in Watering Hole
This is exactly what I have been told by the local news. An yet this officer insisted that my grand-daughter should have called 911 immediately. I believe 911 is for emergencies, not fender-benders . . . -

My grand-daughter had a fender-bender a block from my house (had her license for two weeks). She was turning left across traffic on a four-lane at a signal controlled intersection. The light turned red, she's halfway in the intersection and proceeds to complete her turn (as almost everyone does). An oncoming car in the inside lane swerves to the outside lane and runs through the (now) red light. She clips his rear fender. She says she stopped and waited for them for 5 minutes. No show. She then drove a block to my house and parks in front. About ten minutes later the other car shows up and they start getting ugly. We called the cops and found out the other car had already called in the accident as a hit-and-run. The police show up and immediately want to blame my grand-daughter and even tell her she could go to jail for hit-and-run. I had told her to only tell her side of the story and stick to it. She did this. I was a little put off by the officer's behavior, but, kept my mouth shut. After a few minutes of brow beating her, and she kept to her story, he said to wait while he spoke to the others again. Something they said or did during the second discussion changed his attitude and he backed off the hit-and-run BS. We think the other car went down the road and changed drivers. The officer still insisted that my grand-daughter was at-fault. I asked him what she was supposed to do when the light turned red and she had her car in the middle of the intersection. All he would say was it is the car turning across traffic has the responsiblity for making sure it is clear to turn. Although I agree with this statement, I also believe the other car was clearly more at-fault by running a red light. Opinions? -

De-linking brakes idea for 83
GaryZ replied to dingy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I de-linked my '85 brakes over a year ago and left the rear line in the 30% location. The rear brakes were almost non-existent. I would not want to ride very far with only that rear brake. Last week I decided to move the line to the 70% port only to find that it won't reach. A longer brake line is needed. Instead I removed the guts of the proportioning valve. The rear brake is much better. It has a good feel and I would have to try very hard to lock the rear wheel. -

Just because you are still here does not mean a rider is properly using the front brakes. Two out of 5 cruiser riders are proof of this . . . -

But, did you get good at applying maximum front brakes? This seems to be the crux of the situation with folks that like the linked brakes . . . They are not skilled at applying maximum braking using standard motorcycle brakes where the majority of the stopping power is the front brakes.
