I had the exact same experience with the Beast. I am thinking the 'deep cycle' battery has less voltage drop during cranking and the ignition system is happier . . . A 'deep cycle' battery did nothing for my second wife, but, GF seems to be happy!

You said your grips get very hot, maybe too hot. My question is; If I roll them up, insert into the bar ends and let them unroll. Do you think they would generate enough heat to be useful in 40 degree temps?
-
Goose, Are you still happy with your heated grips? What do you think about installing them inside the end of the handlebar on a 1st Gen?

Gary, I researched the parts that you mentioned. The goal is to have one pick-up coil instead of four. Could one of my pick-up coils be physically located in the same spot as the single coil? Couldn't I re-wire the harness? Do you have any Universal TCI Kits left for a Vmax?
-
What would it take to convert to single pick-up?
-
I checked the 1995 Vmax circuit diagrams and found they show the same dual-pick up/4x as shown in the 1985 VR. Can I assume all 1200 Vmax's were the same?
-
My question for today is; Will a 1200 Vmax TCI plug-n-play on my 1985 Venture? It seems to make sense because I have Vmax cams . . .

Yes, I updated my fuse panel and have been without electrical gremlins. My electric compressor is the size of two packs of cigs and resides in my saddle bag until needed.

Progressive fork springs 12V accessory plug 12V air compressor (got mine @ Academy for $17) iPod dock and ear buds with silicon seal (fits in accessory plug) driving lights

Doc, I have read a couple of different CV carb articles that say there are three circuits (with jets) in these VR carbs; low, mid and high. One of these articles came off of a Vmax site. I have attached one article that I saved. Your very good discussion seems to only address the low and high circuits. What about the mid?

I will add that you really can't put too much Sea Foam in your bike. Heck, the engine can run on straight Sea Foam! I have run the carbs dry, put my fuel line directly in a can of Sea Foam, and let the electric fuel pump fill the carbs. I then let it sit for a couple of days. Try and be outside because the bike will blow billowing clouds of white smoke.

Goodbye to stock Clarion audio system..
GaryZ replied to joekay's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Very nice. I can see one of those in the stock location on my Gen 1 How much did it set you back? -
I live in South Oklahoma City between Moore and Del City. The quake early Saturday morning woke me up out of a sound sleep. The quake Saturday night was something else. The floor of my house did a north-south jog! Ya'll give me a call when you're down this way . . .

Yes, I see where the 'air joint' must be properly positioned. However, you may find no need for the air assist if you install Progressive springs.

I had a motorcycle safety instructor suggest pea-sized gravel thrown over the shoulder . . . No fingerprints

Spark Plug troubles...
GaryZ replied to Ivan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I will be updating my plug caps to remove the resistance . . . Great Info! I like the idea of hotter ignition coils. Who has any recommendations? -
Update II: Rode the beast on a couple of errands yesterday. Stop-and-go city and a run to the north side of OKC. No leaks Thinking back on symptoms that may have slipped under my radar; The bike has been 'gurgling' when shut off. It isn't doing it now. The noise was probably a bad overflow hose! On the road again . . . I'm on the road again

Goose, didn't you just do what you said not to do? Anyway, I did not say folks shouldn't make their opinion known. I said that saying one thing and then taking it back is a cheap shot. I just didn't want to be blunt . . .

Car accidents outnumber bike accidents by a bunch. ERs are full of car accident injuries and the occasional motorcycle injury. Race Car drivers wear fire suits, helmets, 5-point restraint harness, and more. Motorcycle racers wear full leathers, helmets, neck restraints, etc. Yet not one of the 'all gear' folks mention car drivers should be doing race car stuff. Why? How about they don't want to be uncomfortable or inconvenient. I believe if you say that each person should decide what color t-shirt to wear to church, don't follow with 'I wear striped t-shirts because they are safer' If riding motorcycles is too dangerous or too expensive for you, don't do it

New by-pass tubes and o-rings. You are the second one to suggest the water pump seal. Thanks

Update on the coolant leak; Installed the radiator with new top and bottom hoses (cut from O'Reilly part number 21432). Replaced the small hose that goes to the overflow tank. Ran it up until the cooling fan kicked in. No visible leaks. I am planning on a shake-down ride on Sunday.

Gary, I did a Valve Job. Media blasted the heads, new stem seals, lapped the valves, and new gaskets

Some of you people remind me of a dog with a bone . . . You can't just let it go. Jeff was pretty clear in his rant and yet here are the same tired comments rolled out; "Oh, people should make their own decision, but, if they don't do as I say they are wrong' Please Give It A Rest . . . :sign **** happens:
