  1. Attached is Danny's info on carb rebuilds. Gary
  2. I have had to buy two bodies for the #2 carbs when I put the VMax choke on them. I paid $75 each for a bare body with throttle plates still in. VMax bodies are the same as Ventures (MKII) as far as I know, other than the #2. I can't be sure though because Yamaha did not assign a part number to bodies only that I know off. I can put you in touch with person I got mine from. He is a professional. Gary
  3. Do you need just the carb body or complete carb? Gary
  4. I attached a picture of the front & rear heads with cams in for a reference point. There is one way to time cams, you must use small holes for reference on rear head & large hole for the front cams. Only way the shim bucket could touch cam is if a shim is not installed. 5. The restrictor I listed above has a narrowing in tube. There would be no need to modify it. Gary
  6. What are the parts shown in attached picture. A friend that is modifying a Venture has them left over. From an 87 MKII. Gary
  7. Here is a picture of my recipiant. She is in complete remission now. Had a great dinner with her and her husband. Gary
  8. Wife smd I are in Chicago. We are going to meet the woman that I made an anonymous bone marrow donation to 13 years ago. She is from Sweden and is passing through Chicago on her way back home. They have a day layover here. I have exchanged emails over the years but this will be our first meeting. Gary
  9. Auto Zone sells a similar item that can be used to replace restrictor. The stock one also serves to connect 2 different ID vacuum lines together. 2 different size hoses are not needed when intake boot is used as vacuum source. AutoZone also sells a rubber plug that can be used to block port on #2 carb. Don't have that P/N handy. Gary
  10. All RSV's had factory 4 brush starters. Visually, a 2 brush starter has 4 countersunk screws around the mid line, 4 brush starters do not. Look at the P/N on the brushes in the parts fiche, I believe there is a difference between 2 & 4 brush. Lower starter in picture is a 4 brush, no armature in it, or long screws. Upper starter is 2 brush. Gary
  11. I'm so friggin glad I asked first !!! Gary
  12. Here you are Larry. Bongo told me how to do it. Drawing of bracket needed. Picture of it on bike. Gary
  13. Yes I do. Send me an address. Gary
  14. It's made by Seig in China. I bought it from littlemachine shop.com. It takes R8 tooling adapters, which is very common, Bridgeports use R8. Link to mill package I bought. Like any machine tool, it's as accurate as operator & setup. I put a set of digital read out gauges on it that are repeatable to .001" over 6" of travel. The set I got has an incremental setting on it, that gives you ability to keep the zero point set and start a new zero point and measure from that, then return to original zero point reading. Gary
  15. Attached is screen capture of an earlier reply to a thread. This time I inserted same smile and it worked as it should, no html code. Firefox 35.0.1 Gary
  16. I am fine with non members seeing posts I have in classifieds. I have always been treated fairly from people here when I have bought or sold items. Gary
  17. Belatedly, here are pictures of my new tool. Small vertical milling machine & workbench. I'm planning on converting it to CNC later this year. Kits are avaliable to upgrade it & software is rather cheap. Gary
  18. Easiest way I know of to tell difference if carbs are off motor is that the 86-93 carbs have a large chamfer on the lower portion that fits into intake manifold. The 83-85 have a very small chamfer. Pictures of each attached. The 86-93 set have the red crossbar seen on right side of picture. Also you can measure the throat of the carb. 83-85's are 34mm (1.34"), 86-93 are 35mm (1.39") Service manual is wrong about 34mm carbs on the MKII's. I have had racks from each side by side and they have a different bore. Gary
  19. V-Max exhaust system will not work on a Venture. Front head pipes are shorter. Rear head pipes will not clear mono shock as previously mentioned. If one is considering a different collector, one thing to keep in mind is the motor develops more HP when the diagonal cylinder pairs are tied into one muffler each. Tying the right 2 into 1 muffler & the left 2 into 2nd muffler will reduce HP by about 10%. All 4 pipes into 4 mufflers is similar. This info is from V-Max bikes, will be very similar on a Venture. I might have gotten one of the last headers Marks did for a Venture. The quality on the last one was not a near what the 1st one was that is on Tweety. Mark did make it right with me though. Issues might have been related to it being welded without a fixture. Gary
  20. The markings on the rods are not 'stamped' into metal, They are in black ink. Rod numbers should be 4 through 7, corresponding crank journal numbers will be 0 through 3. Picture of a 1200 rod showing marking. This one is a number 7. Gary
  21. Attached is a picture of the balancer shaft & crankshaft laying in upper case half with marks aligned. If you look at the near side counter balance on the crank, it should give you a good reference for where the mark on yours should be. Gary
  22. Package shipped today. Sent a set of idle screw plugs along also. Gary
  23. I have spares, I could send you one if a used one is OK with you. Gary
  24. I was riding go carts at age 5, mini bikes came alog a few years later. We had a quarter mile dirt track oval. Gary
  25. Are you sure it is shift shaft? The gear indicator plate which is just ahead of shift shaft has been known to be a frequent leaker. That seal can be removed with motor assembled. I have not done it but others have. Backup plan would be to remove clutch side cover, pull clutch basket out, then shift shaft could be slid out. This should make it easier to get seal out, just an opinion though. As a suggestion, you could put in your profile that you have 2 MKI Ventures, that would narrow it done close enough. Gary
