  1. I'm not saying not to have them balanced. If the voices in your head are undecided, get it done. Unless you get them high speed balanced, I really doubt it will make any difference. What I have seen used a lot is the type of balancer that the axle sets on a pair of pillars and you repeatedly spin the tire and add weights till it stops at a random point many times in a row. This is a very low tech way of balancing. Low cost and many people have them, but not highly accurate. Yammer was correct on rotor screw torque. Be careful taking them out of wheel. They are cheap, soft steel screws and have been known to strip head out. Picture attached of pockets in MKI rotors I mentioned earlier, crappy picture but you can make them out. I have a pretty good set of MKI rotors They measure about 8.25mm, New ones are 8.5mm so these have very little wear. There is some minor surface rust that will clean up easily. They aren't grooved very much. PM me if interested. 2nd picture is of one rotor. Also have the rear one from same bike. I can send you a few spare screws if you get rotors. Gary
  2. I would say no, they should not effect balance signifigantly. Rotors are held in place very close tolerance with the releif cut in the rim that centers the rotor to the rim. This keeps rotor center concentric to the rim center. Rotor wear should be very even radially around face of rotor, so there should be no weight difference there. Now, the 83-85 rotors may have an issue due to the ventilation in the rotor edges. There could be uneven contaminents built up in the pockets that would effect balance. But this weight out of balance potential is much closer to the rotational axis of the wheel than the tire, so the added weight would not effect the balance condition as much if a similar weight were put farther away from the centerline of rotation. I have swapped rotors numerous times during my front brake experiments with no noticable changes. Then I could be wrong !! Gary
  3. I just got VMAXD for my 83 in Ohio. Gary
  4. Thread linked below will go a long way towards helping your starter. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46806 Gary
  5. I sorry, you made a donation to the trailer fund, no tickets involved. That would be gambling. Gary
  6. It just opened for me, was slow though. Gary
  7. Very similar info and more included in write up in tech section. Wire gauging and fuse sizing is about halfway through. The guy that wrote this was a legend in his own mind. Relays 101 Gary
  8. He said odometer was working, cable has to be intact. Gary
  9. Jeff has them ready to go for $50. They have been tested by several people. It's an excellent price for the work that goes into making these. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4475&title=valve-shim-tool&cat=10 Gary
  10. The powder gun I have is from http://www.eastwood.com/hotcoat-powder-coating.html. Hot Coat system, $99 for gun only. Powder is really rather cheap. $10~$15 a pound. I might have used 1/3 pound on block, heads & oil pan. I have been getting powder from http://www.columbiacoatings.com/ .They have a better selection I think than Eastwood does. I have a separate oven in garage, you should not use an oven for cooking with powder. Taping is tedious. Much harder to work with than masking tape. Tapped holes are sealed of with silicone tapered plugs of various sizes. Parts have to be very clean, down to bare metal. If not it looks like crap, won't stick to any surface contamination. I have sandblasted everything to get all old paint & clear coat off. Parts are in oven at 380 F for 20 minutes, remove from oven & let cool and they are done. Gary
  11. I got the major motor parts powder coated this weekend. They turned out fairly decent, not professional quality, but I'm happy. Color is Super Mirror Black. I spray painted the block on Tweety with a flat black, not really happy with the flat. Tried gloss on this one. Taping these off is a lot harder than masking something to spray paint. The high temp tape is thinner than scotch tape. It wants to curl up when working with. Last picture is what motor looked like when I got it. Battery had leaked and stained block badly. Gary
  12. Some of your searches didn't come across very well. There has been a known issue with this VR site dealing with cutting & pasting Ebay items into threads here. I think you have to cut string, then log out of ebay, then paste string into thread, but not sure. 1st search seemed to work 2,648 matches 2nd search seemed to work 547 matches 3rd search seemed to fail, went to ebay categories page. 4th & 5th 6th search seemed to fail, 5,010,515 matches 7th search seemed to work 1,833 matches 8th went to ebay home page 9th search seemed to fail, went to ebay categories page. Try putting text below in 'Browse by catagory field and see how many matches you get. I got 11,600 matches. I attached picture where I put it. yamaha venture -gt -700 -1999 -2000 -2001 -2002 -2003 -2004 -2005 -2006 -2007 -2008 -2009 -rsv -600 -snow -star -enticer -blaster -600cc -480cc -wave -viper -vector -xenon -phazer -mountain -exciter -snow -sled -srx -venom -vt600 -vt480 -vt700 -sxr -carbide Next try this text string, I added TCI to it, 3rd word. yamaha venture TCI -gt -700 -1999 -2000 -2001 -2002 -2003 -2004 -2005 -2006 -2007 -2008 -2009 -rsv -600 -snow -star -enticer -blaster -600cc -480cc -wave -viper -vector -xenon -phazer -mountain -exciter -snow -sled -srx -venom -vt600 -vt480 -vt700 -sxr -carbide This took me down to 1 match. This on I replaced TCI with Ignitor and got 11 matches. yamaha venture ignitor -gt -700 -1999 -2000 -2001 -2002 -2003 -2004 -2005 -2006 -2007 -2008 -2009 -rsv -600 -snow -star -enticer -blaster -600cc -480cc -wave -viper -vector -xenon -phazer -mountain -exciter -snow -sled -srx -venom -vt600 -vt480 -vt700 -sxr -carbide This gave me down to 11 match. I save the main search that I got the 11,600 hits on, then add the items I am looking for on each new search. This is VMax search yamaha vmax -outboard -weather -boat -prop* -gt -700 -rsv -600 -snow -star -enticer -blaster -540 -600 -480 -wave -viper -vector -xenon -phazer -mountain -exciter -snow* -srx -venom -vt600 -vt480 -vt700 -sxr -carbide The one I use for RSV's isn't as good though. I haven't figured a decent one out yet. yamaha royal star -mirror -filter -thread If any of these searches work for you , they can be saved in the Advanced tab shown in the picture I attached. Other options in this screen as well. Gary They look different after you edited them.
  13. Side stand relay is not in the fuel relay circuitry. Pump will run its usual 4~5 seconds when key is turned on regardless of clutch, gear, side stand switch positions. The kill switch will prevent it from running at all though if it's off. Gary
  14. One thing ebay did a few months ago was to eliminate the use of a wildcard in searches. (*covers) (*rim) for example. Gary
  15. The bike has a safety circuit in the fuel pump relay. If it does not detect an ignition pulse after 4~5 seconds, it disables the fuel pump. This is to prevent gas from being pumped out in the event of a crash. There is another sensor that will kill motor if bike falls over. Gary
  16. PM me an email address and I will send you V88. I have to zip it or it won't go through email. There was a firmware/hardware change from V80 to V88, they are not compatible. You can load a V80 map file into V88 and it will update it. Gary

    Break Parts

The MKII caliper fit up exactly the same as the RSV caliper did on my project bike. Even though components are different on mine, this shows the MKII offset is the same as an RSV caliper. Pictures attached. Caliper used was a front caliper, but I know the left front & rear are the same, other than bleeder screw location. Gary
  18. Sent you money for two through PayPal. Gary
  19. PM me. I have a spare good oil pan. But the part that is bent is on the lower block, not the oil pan. Whole different replacement problem. Gary
