I just re uploaded the simplified schematic file & the wiring diagram file due to a cosmetic change in the way some wires were drawn. The same links in the top of this thread will now bring up the new & improved version. I eliminated the ones that had the X's and O's in them. I made up a different linetype to replace these. The new ones have one dot or 2 dots in them. I never really liked the X & O linetypes for a schematic. It made it appear in some places that two crossing wires connected. Problem is there are only so many linetypes with dashes and spaces available. I didn't change revision level for drawings as this is only a cosmetic change. Any one that does not like new style please return it with your receipt for a full refund. Gary

The 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Wiring Diagram Rev B file shows all the connectors and resembles the wiring diagram in the 1999 Yamaha Royal Star Venture service manual that is referenced in the Second Gen and Royal Star Technical Library on this site. The 99-09 Yamaha Royal Star Venture Simplified Circuit Diagram Rev B file is the complete wiring for the bike in a much simpler format. Since the wiring connectors are not shown, components can be rearranged in a more logical format that reduces the wires running back and forth. Some of the switches are shown in a more convenient manner also. This file would probably be the one most used for trouble shooting. I have also added a legend to this group to help users understand the schematics better. If you find anything that needs changed on these schematics, let me know & I will fix it. The files will look best when plotted at 11" x 17" size or larger. Office Max, Kinko’s and Staples as well as others can do this for you for a minimal charge if you want a printout. I paid $1.00 for an 11" x 17" color print at Staples. All you have to do is take the PDF file that you download to their store and they can print it. There are 3 fuses that are called out as 15 amp in schematics. Head Light Ignition Hazard Pull the suspect fuse and find out which one of these circuits doesn't work. Gary

I am near completion on the RSV wiring schematic. I have a number of questions about it that I am unable to check since I do not have A RSV. What I need is someone that can look at a wiring harness on or off of bike and check these. They are listed below. If it would help I could email anyone interested in helping a copy of schematic. I would like to get as many of these questions resolved prior to posting finished version. There may be a prize for most needed answers #1 Rear speakers only show 2 wires, if stereo rear speakers should be 4 Answered by YamaHamer 10/23/09 #2 two of six wires from MCU to front radio remote go thru connector D, why just 2 #3 Is carb heart ground shown correct or do grounds all connect to Carb ground connector. #4 Wire colors into fan noise filter conflict between what connectors indicate & indicated wire color. #5 Rear Aux outlet positive wire color to fuse, Br/R or Br/B, wire has each on opposite ends #6 Is Y/W wire color correct in rear brake switch, incoming cable shows Y/L #7 Color of wire inside handle bar control from Cruise Control Switch to Hazard Switch, not marked on schematic #8 Is Y/B wire correct color in clutch switch, incoming cable shows Y/W Answered by BuddyRich 10/23/09 #9 Is W wire correct color in PTT switch, incoming cable shows W/L #10 PTT circuit problem….Harness connector legend does not show a W or a W/L wire going thru it, PTT circuit is indicated as going thru this connector though. Only one wire on schematic is W/Y, from MCU to Front Control & this does not indicate going thru D connector #11 Is L/B wire correct color in dimmer switch, incoming cable shows R/Y #12 Wire connector E, can’t locate Br/W terminal, only logical place is in wire from flasher relay to turn signal switch #13 Wire connector D, can’t locate Y/R terminal, only Y/R at 2 places 1st out of cruise control relay, 2nd from flasher relay to turn signal switch. .

For those of you with 1999 - 2009 RSV's, I will have the wiring diagram ready later this week. So far I have only posted the 1st Gen's. which can be viewed at link below. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41972]1st Gen Wiring Schematics 1983 - 1993 - VentureRider.Org[/ame] The 24" x 36" prints really do make following these much easier to work with. Another note, I have shown the "Emergency Stop Switch" as Normally Closed on all drawings posted. I have corrected the drawings to show this as a Normally Open contact. I will update the files on web site in near future. Also a couple of mis-spellings in color code chart have been fixed. The files Steve has are corrected versions. Gary

My goal in doing this is to make them easier to read and reduce the number of pages needed to display the information. I have used color and line types to make the wiring easier to follow. In some cases I could not use the exact color that is being represented due to visibility and printing issues. For example yellow is hard to see on the screen and does not print well. The previous posting for the 1983-1985 models have been replaced by what is included with this post. The 1983 differs significantly from the 1984-1985 models in the areas of Flasher, Hazard, Starting Circuit Cut-Out Relays, the Hazard Switch, Canceling Unit & Diode Pack. The files for the 86-89 models that were previously posted have been revised slightly and are now at Revision B. Major corrections done included coils were numbered incorrectly in Simplified Circuit & the Flasher Relay Assembly has been updated to include flasher information. The 1990 major changes from the 1986-1989 models were the TCI, coil pick-up & fuel pump control. This post supersedes all previous posts I have done in regards to the 1st gen wiring diagrams. If you have a Royale, does it have CLASS & Cruise along with upgraded Instrument cluster? Or could you have bought a Royale and got only the CLASS system. Or, only Cruise system Does every Royale have upgraded instrument cluster? Gary

Voltage is a measurement in parallel with the power source. One probe on positive side of circuit and other on negative side. In a simple circuit such as a battery with a relay across the positive & negative side of the battery, you will read the battery voltage across the terminals. Amperage is the reading that you would get when you break the circuit at any given point and insert an amp meter in series with the circuit. The amperage in any given circuit will be determined by a series of formulas known as ohm's law. The pertinent one here is that the current in a circuit is equal to the voltage divided by the resistance value of the series circuit. Say you have a 12 volt battery and you connect the coil leads of a 100 ohm relay in series with the positive & negative terminals of the battery. If you take a voltage reading across the coil leads of the relay, you will read 12 volts.. If you disconnect one coil lead and insert your meter in series you will read .12 amps current flow. In a simple series circuit, amps will be consistent at any point in the circuit. Where it becomes more complex is to consider a circuit as above with a relay and a switch in series. After all a relay across a battery with no switching is a fairly useless circuit. An example of this on the Venture would be the starter solenoid. In actuality, when you press the starter button on the handle bar you are putting the battery in series with the coil of the solenoid, Also in this series circuit is the contacts in the starter push button and the contacts of the starting circuit cut-out relay, as well all of the associated cable connectors. On an open series circuit, there is no voltage drop across the circuit. The voltage drop occurs at points of resistance, in this case the coil of the relay. Since there is no voltage drop (or loss), any point you read the voltage in the circuit will show full voltage. Every relay has what is known as a pick up current value. This is the minimum current flow through the coils that is required to cause the cause the relay to activate. In the case of the 100 ohm relay mentioned above, the pickup amperage is less than working value of .12 amps. I'm guessing somewhere around .05 amps. Where this becomes a factor is if you have a high resistance connection at some point in the circuit, there may not be sufficient current flow to activate the relay, but still be enough to read the voltage in the circuit. I have just checked an extra solenoid that I have off of an 84 Venture.It has a coil resistance of about 5 ohms. Using the ohms law and assuming a battery voltage of 13.5 volts, you should read about 2.7 amps in series with the coil of a working starter solenoid. Hope this has not confused you more. Gary

Can you get an amperage reading in series with the solenoid coil? Disconnect Blue/White white at connector & put positive lead towards solenoid & negative lead towards wire harness on Blue/White wire. I worked for a number of years in Railroad signaling and learned that voltage is a poor indicator of circuit condition. You can read a voltage difference, but a bad connection may not be allowing sufficient current flow to actuate solenoid.

I am working on schematics for the 83-85 group and need this info to know what combination to make the schematics. I am looking for the Base model #, Cruise #, Class #, & Cuise + Class # (if offered separately) The Audio options would also be helpful, but not as much as the above combinations.
