  2. I didn't know how to interpret front caliper sizes for RSV, FJR & R1. The 83-85 has dual piston. The 86-93 detailed in manual, Right/Left with different sizes. The RSV, FJR & R1 just listed two different front sizes. Attached below is cut from manual showing brake specs, at bottom of each sheet is model ID Putting a ruler in picture will work. I would need the photo to be straight down on the handle. Gary

  8. A scan will be much more helpful, but I could work with a photo if I had some dimensions on it. The scan I can import into my CAD at a 1:1 scale. The photo is a different critter though. Gary

  11. [ATTACH]39923[/ATTACH] Attached is a drawing of an 83 brake handle. 1" tip travel generates .1145" (2.9094 mm) of plunger travel. This calculates out to 368.55 cubic mm (pi * radius sq * height) (3.1415 * 40.3225 * 2.9094). I can do this for the other models in question if I can get a scan of the brake handles in jpeg format. I can import the handle into my CAD program and draw the geometry over the scan. This will provide a comparison of the various brake units operational characteristics. Gary
  12. Attached is a file containing a compilation of brake specifications. 83-85 Venture 86-93 Venture 99-09 Rsv 2002 FJR R1 (? year) 85 VMax Master Cyl dia., Caliper dia., Rotor dia. (all in millimeters) As a good actor once said "Trust, But Verify" This list is for reference only. I pulled info from various service manuals. Gary
  13. I used IN4001, these are good for 100 v, Radio Shack has them for 99 cents for two. Attached are a couple of files that may help you. The PDF showing the views of the board with numbers on it. I made this up so I could point to point check the inputs of the TCI connections. Since it is a dual side board and once you start soldering it back into the case, the back side is not viewable, I made this so I could ohm out the connections once I had soldered them. I did not show the numbers that could be followed on the visible side of the board. If the trace was on the bottom side, I put the number on the top side view. The numbering format I used was pulled from another TCI post on this site. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15131&highlight=TCI+testing+info The second shot is what the diodes look like when they are very deteriorated. [ATTACH]39912[/ATTACH] This is not an easy solder job. I have been formally trained three different times in soldering techniques, Technical school, Marine Avionics and Railroad signaling. Three decades ago though, not quite like riding a bicycle, keeping in practice would have helped, as would have better eye sight !! This board is very sensitive to heat and lifting of the circuit traces. This first try is just ugly. One of the members here, and I can't find his PM he sent me, said to add fresh solder to the traces before desoldering them. I used a vacuum style solder sucker and that did help a lot on the second one. I used a 60 watt iron. Good Luck Gary

  15. I could probably work this out if I had some additional info. I would need the distance from the brake lever pivot point in the master cylinder housing to the center line of contact with the plunger in master cylinder housing. The length of the brake lever from the pivot point would be helpful to create a graph with. With this I could show what 1" of tip movement would create in fluid displacement. This will vary for each different master cylinder, 83-85 ,86-93 & RSV. I can get the 83-85. But what would be ideal is if one person could get all three measurements, this way they would all be taken using the same methodology. Gary
  16. Does anyone have a dead TCI that they would donate to me. I will gladly pay shipping. I tried the diode repair to my TCI and I am uncertain of the results. I used too high a wattage solder iron to remove diodes and damaged the circuit board traces somewhat. I obtained a second one that was very corroded and tried the replacement of diodes again and they looked much better, but due to corrosion of unit I believe it is unserviceable. Any 83 to 89 units that are laying around would be appreciated. I will open any donated one up and see if the diode degradation was possibly the reason for the unit failure. I can get the replacement diodes for about $5.00 to try and repair. This is a somewhat difficult procedure to replace these diodes, but after 2 practice tries, I am getting better at it. I believe I can use a post 84 on my present 1200 engine. I have the correct vacuum line to use on the post 84 units. Also I am anticipating getting a 1300 engine in the next week or so.   17. Actually there is about a 28% increase in size from a 86-93 to a RSV Below is a drawing I did for comparision. Top line is bore size Second line in MM Sq. Third line is increase from 83-85 size. Gary
  18. I looked at doing it to get the larger piston size. It appears the attachment angle to the handlbar was different also, aside from what Squeeze mentioned about diameter.   19. I am in the process of putting electric anti dives on my 83 1200. I am at the same time de-linking the brakes. I am going to make the anti dives only engage from the front brake lever. The front and rear lever will both still activate the brake lights. With my riding style, I believe the fork anti dives not actuating when only the rear brake is applied will not make any difference. My purpose in doing this is that when in slow traffic, I can use the rear brake to avoid the current draw of the anti dives. When making this wiring change I discovered that what I had posted about pulling the EAND relay will not work as planned. The brake light circuit is not wired per the original Yamaha diagram or my redrawn circuits. The trigger wire for the brake lights comes from the EAND solenoid valve White control wire, not the EAND relay coil circuit. So pulling the EAND relay from its socket will also disable the brake lights. I have still been able to accomplish what I wanted to do by wiring the brake light circuit as shown on the schematics and adding a diode. I discovered this after installing the diode per the original schematics and the circuit not working as intended. After untaping the front two feet of the wiring harness to trace the brake trigger wire, I found it spliced into the EAND solenoid valves White wire. Gary

Click on it Then click on the top button that says Browse Go to where picture is located on your PC and click on it Go down to right side of Browse buttons and there is an Upload button Click it When pic is uploaded a block called Current Attachments will pop up When done go all the way to bottom of window you clicked on Browse in and Click Close This Window You can go to testing forum and try this Picture has to be under about 200K, 600 x 600 size If your still confused I can send you screen shots of each step, need email address to do that.   24. I have seen that the "Fun & Frivoulous" forum does not show up on the home page when someone posts to a thread in it. Might I suggest that the Testing Forum also be set up this way also. It sort of defeats the purpose of having an obscure area to test in, if it is going to be paraded in front of everyone. Gary
  25. The ratings only take into account the feedback in the last 12 months. He has had 34 positive & 1 negative in last 12 months. 34 positives divided by 35 total feedback ratings. 34/35 = .97 After 12 months you have to look back through the feedback rating sheets to find other negatives or neutrals.
