    USS Midway

U.S.Navy releases Al Qaeda Terrorist The US Navy today announced that it has released a senior Al Qaeda terrorist after questioning him extensively for 27 days while being held prisoner aboard a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. In a humanitarian gesture, the terrorist was given $50 US and a white 1962 Ford Fairlane automobile upon being released from custody. The attached photo shows the terrorist on his way home just after being released by the Navy. This would be the Enterprise by the deck number. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/go_navy.gif
  2. Here is a concept of what I have recreated. If anyone would like to comment on it. The dimensioning for the most part is reference only, since the part would be CNC created from the vector information contained in the CAD file. Gary
  3. As it looks now, I have orders for 31 units. The seller that I have talked to, and that has agreed to sell me these, has given me a slight decrease in price due to added qty. and the other seller on ebay. I will order an extra tach with this money and donate it to this web site. Freebird can use it as he sees fit. Door prize, contest, maintenance day, whatever. If anyone that has ordered these has a problem with this let me know and I will refund your payment. Gary
  4. Looked at McMaster Carr and didn't see any thing. The issue I see with using a tool other than the 'official' one or a copy is that if the center of the ring nut distance to the center point that the torque wrench engages the tool is not the same, then the torque applied to the ring nut will not be accurate. Since the torque is being applied to a lever, and not over the center line of the ring nut, any change in this distance will increase or decrease the final torque. Gary
  5. We could try it. I now see that you did give me width in previous post, oldtimers disease is setting in. Thanks Gary
  6. The RSV manual shows using that tool to loosen the ring nuts on page 7-63. I may not be able to get a decent price on these. but it was something I thought I would look into. Some of the people that have done this enough times have indicated that they have no need to torque it, that they just go by feel. I would rather have it set to a known specification, just like any of the other critical torque values. I stopped at my local Yamaha dealer yesterday to see if I could look at his tool and measure it. The service manager was very helpful, even went out and looked in there 'Special Tool box' but didn't have one. He also told me they aren't allowed to sell RSV's because they are also an HD dealer, which makes up the majority of their sales. Thanks for measurement, that will be close enough. I just tried inserting it into AutoCAD but it is not coming in at a 1:1 scale. If you could give me a width of the handle, I could use that to scale it. Also how thick is the tool? Thanks Gary
  7. Could you get me the distance from the center of the ratchet hole to the center line of the ring nut hole. It is this distance that the torque setting is determined by. What I mean is that if you put a torque of 36 ft-lb at a point 3" from the center of the ring nut and the same torque at a point 4" from the center of the ring nut your final value on the nut will differ. Thank You, Gary
  8. Hello, It was brought to my attention that there is another Ebay individual selling the same tachs as I am getting for a Buy it now price of $16.99 shipping included. He indicated to me that he did not want to sell outside of of Ebay as this could result in his getting kicked off Ebay. Sellers ID is 8450fish. The latest ad he has on Ebay now lists them at $17.25. This is $0.25 cents cheaper than I am able to do with first class shipping. I do not want any one to think I am taking advantage of them by doing this. If you have already paid me and want a refund let me know. Getting them through me is still cheaper for the multiple unit purchases. Gary
  9. Would someone that has a Yamaha tool p/n YU-01268, ring nut wrench, and could measure a couple of things on it please PM me ? Picture of it is attached below. The RSV & the 86-93 Venture manuals shows this tool being used in the 'Periodic Inspections and Adjustment' section under 'Chassis - Steering Head'. I am looking at getting some of these made and need two measurements from the "official" tool. This tool allows the torque to be set on the steering head bearings without guessing at it. I have several contacts that have CNC laser and/or high definition plasma cutters that could make these. I want to get quotes on this item before I put it out there to see how much interest there would be in them. This tool should work on all 83-09 models. Gary
  10. L/KC2 was model # designator for 1984 Starting serial # 47R-000101 for XVZ12L/KC2 - Standard Starting serial # 47T-000101 for XVZ12DL/DKC2 - Deluxe Here is a link to service manual in case you need it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43688 Gary
  11. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1724/cat/6 Here is an add in classified section that Skydoc 17 has a kit to fix dripping bypass valve. Gary
  12. Did PO run a braided wire down between coils and attach with a screw and nut through starter housing? There looks like there is enough room to get a #10 screw between coils. Gary
  13. From what I tried earlier today, I don't believe that soda will take any serious corrosion or build up off. It seemed to put somewhat of a smooth, non shiny surface on the carb diaphragm cover I tried it on. Cover had an oxidation type patina to it prior to soda blasting. It would still need polished with a buffing wheel, which I also tried on blasted piece. It did gloss out fairly easily. I think what cougar posted would also work with glass beads though. The soda aspect is nice because containment of the blasted media isn't as big a problem. Just hose it away. I liked his initial post, which was reason I went to Harbor Freight to get air gun, just liked one they had a smidge more. Gary
  14. I looked at the pictures I took of my 83 as I was tearing it down. It looks like you can get at it by pulling gas tank. You have to remove rear frame. There are a couple of pictures attached. I don't think you have to pull rear end of like one picture shows. Gary
  15. There are two leads coming out of cable. One has eyelet connector, ground connection if you were going to permanently mount it to run hour meter. Ground wire does not need to be connected to read RPM's. The picture at top of thread that shows it in my Dodge only had the spark plug wire connected. Also worked fine on lawn mower without ground hooked up. Other is about 20 gauge insulated wire. This one you wrap around spark plug wire a couple of times to read RPM's. These two wires join about a foot from end of 66" overall length cable that comes out of tach. I added a picture to my first post showing this better. Gary
  16. Has anyone came up with a substitute to for the steering head wrench, other than the Yamaha special tool ? Gary
  17. Just tried it and it works OK. Fairly comfortable to hold and use. Instructions say 9oz hopper Maybe 1 to 1 1/2 cups of material. Also says it will work with glass bead & walnut shells. Here is online link. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?itemnumber=93221&Submit=Go Gary
  18. Went to harbor freight to get parts to make soda blaster Cougar showed & they had this on sale for $9.99, normally $14.99 on line. Air gun & vinyl tube would have been about $7.00 for Cougars . Went with this to try. I don't have to have vinyl tube feeding out of box this way. Gary
  19. Upgraded dash started in 84 I believe. Gary

  21. Its really to time how long it takes the 2nd Gen's to catch up at the bar. Gary
  22. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42539 Evan, Look at thread shown above. It has some pictures of neutral switch in a Royale version. Also shows the position in bike. Not really an adjustment in there. Could be the brass tip on end of transmission cam is worn out. Does the indicator always stay in first or does it cycle through gears? Possibly the 3 screws that hold the plastic switch plate to the engine case are loose. Gary
  23. Also Cruise control, upgraded dash with gear position indicator & stop watch functions on clock. Gary
  24. Did that correct neutral light indication problem? Gary
  25. Snaggletooth is going to post explanation using these pictures. Gary
