1. Where did the second level passenger foot rests come from? Is this a MKII feature? My wife is short and would probably like these. Gary
2. Sorry, Timeframe is passed for group buy. Sent you a PM Gary
3. If someone refers to this thread in future (which would be present for them) the threaded rod is 5/8-10 and you need a 36" long piece. Went to Lowes and got it tonight along with 4 nuts and a piece of 5/8" ID clear pvc tubing. Cost about $6.50 total. Thanks StuD Gary
4. We use to call that SOS in the service. Sh_t on a Shingle Aye Aye Chief Gary
5. No, I have another set coming off of an 1987. I now have everything I need to put quad caliper pistons from a MKII on my scooter, both ends. I pity the fool that ends up with this bike in the distant future. Its going to have more parts & pieces that are not from 1983 than are from 1983. It's even going to have RSV, FJR, & VMax parts. Gary
6. The tach has two wires. One wraps around the spark plug wire two or three times. The other is a ground wire that does not need to be hooked up for the tach to function, its purpose is to run the hour meter part of unit. The tach can be set to read, 1 rpm for every plug fire, 1/2 rpm for every plug fire or 2 rpm for every plug fire. I am not sure if it will work with a COPs type coil. I tried it on a V8 Dodge and a lawn mower, both worked fine. I just shipped over 40 out today, so there ought to be some feedback in near future. Gary
7. Looking at his haircut, I think he went a smidgen past a trim. Gary
8. What dia. is threaded rod? 15/16 is very odd size. Are nuts 15/16" across flats? Do they drop into a hex cutout in bottom of 'CYLINDER COMP., front fork' Gary
9. I was at a local TSC (Tractor Supply Center) and they had gallons (128 oz) of Seafoam for $39.99. 16 oz cans were $7.99 which would extend out to $63.92 for a gallon. I know some of you like seafoam more than ice cream (you aint right) so I thought I would post it here. Gary
10. What tools do I need to disassemble, then reassemble front fork tubes on MKII? I know Yamaha has their 'special' tools. Can it be done with long socket Extensions? I want to break down a set of forks and replace seals. Also, I am going to powder coat lower tubes. Gary
11. Carl, Do you have to have the seal ? Do the MKI's not have this ? Gary
12. I put an add on ebay for one and it sold in less than 24 hours. I listed at $22.50 auction format with $4.00 shipping for 7 days Buy it Now price of $40.00 Some one bought it for buy it now price + $4.00 shipping. There went my prototype. Gary
13. Here is a very similar thread from last week. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=44985 My preference would be a digital voltage gauge. Amps don't tell you a whole lot about electrical system health. It is just an indication of current flow at the particular point in the system that the gauge was inserted at. Readings will vary at any given time depending on accessories running. You cannot run starter current through 99% of available gauges, so it has to be installed after starter motor circuit. Amp gauge somewhat more involved install. Gary
14. For the last four years I have belonged to a Nascar fantasy league. I do not run the league, but the person that does is a trusted friend. Entry fee is $25.00 for season. Last year we had 38 participants. First & second half payouts were $78, $49, $29, $23 & $16 Season Payout was $146, $105, $88, $70, $53, $41, $29, $23, $18, $12 Payouts will fluctuate depending on number of participants. Attached is a PDF of format & rules. Drivers are chosen based on each driver being assigned a dollar value. Each Team is allowed $10,000,000 in Drivers. Teams consist of 8 drivers. With dollar value system, you get a few good drivers, a few middle of the track drivers, and a few long shots. Drivers are chosen for the season, you don't change every week. Only time a driver can be changed is after 2 consecutive races of inactivity. Entries are due by February 12th. Contact info is in the attached PDF file. I can also assist in getting team selections and fee submitted. You get a recap sheet every week showing how everyone did. Gary
15. The tachs arrived at my house today, Saturday, February 6th. Will ship to members that ordered by Monday February 8th. Gary
16. Below is a cut from the parts fiche showing the orientation of the components. See if parts are in correct order. Gary
17. From what I can tell about the flasher relay, it is a single pole, thermally activated. One might be able to connect a relay coil to this flasher. Then run the energy to these lights through the back contacts of the new relay. It would be relatively easy though with a two circuit filament bulb. That though would require the change over of the base contact in the flasher housing to a dual circuit. Gary
18. These are single circuit lights. I am not quite sure how you could get them to light continuously, and then flash when the turn signals are activated. If something like this were available in dual circuit, then the wiring could be accomplished with a little McGyvering. Gary
19. Check your private message box. I sent link to a 83 owners manual on Scribd.com Gary
20. I have started a new thread on this tool. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=45046 "Fork wrench sample & ordering" I have the sample in hand. Pictures in new thread. Gary
21. I have received the sample of the tool that will allow the tightening of the fork bearing nut with a 3/8" torque wrench. It came out extremely nice. The part measures to within .002" of drawing. There are no signs of overheating or bluing from the laser cutting. Specification for steering head nut torque initial value is 36 ft/lbs. I tried tool at 65 ft/lbs. and it worked fine with no sign of deformation. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5202.jpg The procedure for setting steering head torque is outlined in the service manuals beginning with the 1986 manual. This is under Periodic Inspection & Adjustment - Chassis - Steering Head Adjustment. Also, if you are the proud owner of the MKI (83-85) Ventures, you could use the procedure outlined in the 86-93 manual. If you need a copy of this procedure I can provide it for you. The tool will work on any year Venture. The same part number is shown in the part fiche from 1983 through the RSV's for the steering head bearing nut. The tool will also work on 1st gen VMaxs & FJR's The tool is laser cut from 1/4" thick, 304 stainless steel, mill finish. I can supply this tool at a cost of $23.00 including first class shipping to lower 48 US & Canada They will have the tools ready for me by Friday, February 12, 2010. I will start shipping as soon as I get them. I can order more at any time. If you would like to order one or more my paypal address is gary@dinges.com. I will see the paypal transaction in my email. I can also accept check or money orders. PM me for address. Please mark payment as a personal transaction. Paypal does not send your address to me when it is marked a gift. Please include shipping address & your screen name in Paypal transaction, comments field. Attached are pictures showing the finished tool. Gary
22. http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/DollyPink.jpg This would be so nice, and nobody would steal it. There would be an additional charge. Gary

24. Maybe, I just got a used oven for in my garage. I am going to get the powder coat set up that harbor freight has for $69.99. Gary
25. I just talked with shop foreman from my supplier. He is going to go ahead and run the sample piece for me tomorrow morning, Friday, 2/5/10. I will not apparently be charged for this one piece sample. He seemed more willing to work with me than salesman did. He indicated his laser scheduling is tight right now, so it would be into next week before I get full run. I will let you know tomorrow about status and some pictures. Gary
