got a question for venture techs
dingy replied to breezelasbre73's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My 83 does not have the notch in the side cover that exposes the petcock. I just looked at parts fiche for 83 - 84 - 85 P/N changed in 84 for the petcock. Mine does not have reserve setting, almost sure. I also don't have the rubber straps that hold side cover on. It has a clip where rubber band is on later models. Gary -
got a question for venture techs
dingy replied to breezelasbre73's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think it is only an on - off switch. No reserve setting. At least on my 83. Gary -
I spent some quality time at Millington Tn. Had some good times in Memphis. The largest inland naval base in the world I was told. Gary

rear air suspension
dingy replied to breezelasbre73's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43688 The thread above has a link to the service manual that has had the missing pages replaced in it. Most of the Yamaha Venture 1st Gen manuals on line are missing about 10 various pages. Snaggletooth scanned these pages and I inserted them into the PDF file. Gary- 12 replies

The supplier emailed me with the way to turn off the tach. He contacted the manufacturer to get this. When you do this, all information is lost that has been stored. In our case, it probably does not matter as it is being used as a tool. The meter will have to be reset each time it is to be used. It is somewhat lengthy, but here it is. Press and hold down S1 button, will show 01-05 (do not release S1 at this time), when display 05, release S1. After 8-10 seconds(at this time, the meter will flash), the meter will return to total hours, will display 0.0 hours (the meter will not flash). Then press and hold down S1 and S2 buttons, the meter will display 01-09 (don't release S1 and S2 buttons), after showing 00000, release S1 and S2 buttons, the meter will show 00000 to 99999, then return to 0.0. Now the meter is reset, after 5 seconds or so, the meter will become blank display, 0.0 will disappear. Gary

If you have a small set of needle nose pliers you may be able to grab inside the flutes of the tap and work it out. Drilling will prove to be futile since the tap is probably as hard or harder than the drill. Gary

First Gen Radio
dingy replied to mrich12000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You have about as much chance of that as the Saints do of winning the Super Bowl. OK, I will scan it for you, I'll let you know when I get it done. I may have to email it to you or something like that. Freebird is a little touchy about posting the copyrighted stuff here. Gary -
First Gen Radio
dingy replied to mrich12000's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
With all the research I did when I redrew the schematics, I never did find a pin out diagram for the radios. The closest I have is a parts breakdown of a 1983 era radio system. It's 48 pages long. In English and French. It list part #'s for every piece in the radio system, but no schematics. Gary -

February 12, 2010 post date I have received my order of the steering head bearing nut wrench. I will be shipping out to every one that has ordered one. I have extras, so if you would like one and have not ordered, see below for info. I have include a PDF cut from the 1st Gen & RSV service manuals relating to the procedure to set torque. Pay attention to text about setting torque wrench at a 90 degree angle to wrench. Not doing so will affect torque reading. Also listed below are the threads relating to this tool. Gary http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45046 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44833 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44719 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44668&highlight=steering+head http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5202.jpg The procedure for setting steering head torque is outlined in the service manuals beginning with the 1986 manual. This is under Periodic Inspection & Adjustment - Chassis - Steering Head Adjustment. Also, if you are the proud owner of the MKI (83-85) Ventures, you could use the procedure outlined in the 86-93 manual. If you need a copy of this procedure I can provide it for you. The tool will work on any year Venture. The same part number is shown in the part fiche from 1983 through the RSV's for the steering head bearing nut. The tool will also work on 1st gen VMaxs & FJR's The tool is laser cut from 1/4" thick, 304 stainless steel. I can supply this tool at a cost of $23.00 including first class shipping to lower 48 US, Canada will be $24.00, first class shipping. I can order more at any time. If you would like to order one or more my paypal address is gary@dinges.com. I will see the paypal transaction in my email. I can also accept check or money orders. PM me for address. Please mark payment as a personal transaction. Paypal does not send your address to me when it is marked a gift. Please include shipping address & your screen name in Paypal transaction, comments field. Attached are pictures showing the finished tool. Gary

You have a problem in the clutch switch then. I t should disengage when front brake, rear brake or clutch pressed, as well as the cancel switch. Below is link to thread on cleaning the switch. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42720 Gary

dingy replied to MiCarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I don't have a good answer to getting the seal in the case out with the push rod still in there. What you said sounds as good as anything else though. Gary- 36 replies

1st Gen. Clutch Slave Cylinder.
dingy replied to MiCarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Pressure on a Lip seal or "u" shaped seal will go against the open part of the profile. This is so the pressure forces the sides of the seal into the cylinder wall. See if attached picture helps. Gary- 36 replies
