  1. Nope, engine is cleaned and ready for reassembly when video start. Gary
  2. Yes, I also got cams & valve covers Pictures below of heads. I would like to not modify my 1200 carbs at this point, I would like to keep with my 1200 engine. I also have a set of parts carbs coming in addition to the set that was on the 1300 parts bike. Gary
  3. I got my copy of this video. It is actually two long WMV files. This means they will play with Windows media player, Nero, etc. You don't have to have DVD player capabilities. Over 4 hours long. The video is extremely helpful. It goes from a completely empty split block to fully assembled. Each step is explained through out. It would be helpful for anyone considering a transmission replacement as well. He shows each piece being put into place, torque values, sealer requirements etc. Go on ebay & search for: Yamaha 1200cc engine assy. Gary
  4. I agree Larry The second relay is a definitely not needed when the 87A terminal is already on the top relay. Gary
  5. My scooter is a 1983, I am putting a 1988 - 1300 in it. I want to use the 1300 carbs on it since I am also putting on Vmax heads. Am currently exchanging PM's with Squeeze about re-jetting requirements. Gary
  6. If you put the ground in that is shown in red on the 85 terminal of the lower relay, the upper switch now is voided out of the circuit since it was switching the ground. Result is top relay will always be energized as shown. Gary
  7. Sure as hell won't without it !! Gary
  8. I am delinking brakes on my bike during its overhaul. Also installing MKII forks, rotors, calipers and master cylinders. I have a steering head bleeder port available. Would this be useful with both front rotors working off of the front master, or is it not needed? Gary
  9. Can you turn your head lights on as it is now with the key off? If so, the LED's will blink when scooter is shut down, If not, they won't blink when key is off. Gary
  10. You should notice them when they are blinking. One other question. Is the power feed to these relays #30 contact switched through the key? If it is not, and you have run a hot wire from the battery through a fuse, these will flash when your bike is turned off & parked. Gary
  11. I won It . And cheap too !! $55.15 plus shipping The scooter will have a heart beat. Gary
  12. DPDT relays are not that common. I don't remember seeing one at Auto Zone or Advanced. Radio Shack might have them if you can find a clerk that knows squat. I went into my local Radio Shack Thursday and asked if they had transformers. The clerk had no idea what a transformer was. Radio Shack has changed. If there is already a SPDT there, then the 87A terminal could just be tied into. Cougar has a switch on each circuit & wants an indicator that the headlight circuits is energized. Gary
  13. A SPST relay does not have the second contact in it. (Either a NO or NC but not both) A SPDT has both contacts in it (NO & NC) Gary
  14. Some automotive style relays do not have an 87A NC (back) contact. They internally tie the 87 NO (front) contact to the 87A, it gives you another connection point on the relay. I have such a relay in my collection. If you have an Ohm meter, check for continuity between the 87 & 87A contacts. See this write up for some info on relays. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43150 Gary
  15. My 83 doesn't start moving the temp gauge until I have been ont it for 15-30 minutes. The charging system will drain the battery at an idle. It takes 1500 - 2000 rpm before it starts charging. If it won't start hot check the spark again. Coils can break down when heated. Other possible culprits are a loss of compression when warmed up due to various internal engine components like valve train. CDI could be borderline on it. See this thread for 83-85 service manual download. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43688 Gary
  16. If you have a spare spark plug, unhook one of the spark plug wires on bike at plug, put in spare plug, ground tip & crank. You should see spark. Please note. This can bite you. Suggest having wife or one of kids hold plug and you crank engine - just joking Gary
  17. Right side, under side cover, just above passenger foot peg. If it is an early 83, there won't be a cutout around petcock, have to remove cover. This one only has an ON and OFF position. Late 83 & up, there is a cutout in side cover, you can see it without removing side cover. Also has RESERVE position. Also, see this thread. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=438576#post438576 Gary
  18. Bad ground? Try cleaning battery cables. Gary
  19. I could be wrong here, but I believe the smog connector is near the left side upper frame rail, near the fuel tank filler. On my 88 harness the connector for it is right where the fuse box leg branches off. Gary
  20. I don't have the aftermarket backrest that you mentioned, but, Below are pictures of what I did to move my stock 83 backrest. This moved it 2" back. It is very solid. It did fubar the antenna mount. I will have to McGyver something for that yet. I was using an after market short antenna, but reception isn't that great. I had it mounted horizontally under trunk, above tail light. Gary
  21. It may be with these heads on the scooter & the FJR rear end. BYE BYE http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5257s.jpg Gary
  22. Mike, Send them to me and I will let you know how they mount. I may even send you a picture back of them mounted. Gary
  23. Look at my first post again. I was editing it when you replied to me. I think I figured out other two connectors. Gary
  24. Picture #4 is to the 41R flasher relay I have harnesses out of an 84 & an 88 and neither has the mate to the green connector in picture #2 Do you have cruise control on bike. This may be the two wire switch from the clutch. If you have cruise it should be a 4 wire switch. There will probably be an empty female connector in headlight bucket. 4 pin connector. Two Black w/ White tracers, One Blue w/ yellow tracer & 1 Black w/ Yellow tracer. This may be what is shown in picture #1. Attached is a couple of pictures of the 41R flasher relay, bike should not start without this relay. It also houses the start circuit relay. Here is a link to schematics. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42358 Gary
  25. Tool and tach made it to Canada today at same time. Tach went out 2/8 and tool went out 2/13. At least tach got a riding companion somewhere along the line. Gary
