  1. Ok I'm going with plan 'C'. Using Bob's idea of epoxying in a plug. Back to MKI swingarm. I used a Test Tube style stopper from Lowes. Sanded it down a little on large end and used Marine grade epoxy to hold it in. Drilled a 1/2" hole in center for pin on swing arm. This feels much better than the MKII mount with metal to metal, loose fitting contact. Gary
  2. I was concerned about the bushing coming out. There is nothing to hold it in on the inboard side. Went to plan B, stripped, sandblasted, primed & painted the 88 swing arm. I hope nothing else is different on it. At least I have a real pretty 83 swing arm spare now. Gary
  3. I thought changing to MKII brakes was a fairly common upgrade. Has this ever popped up before? Putting a bushing in is an option, I would have to have one machined. And it would have to have set screws in it to keep it on the swing arm. Easiest option I can see is using the MKII swing arm. MKI arm has been sandblasted & painted though. Gary
  4. And this is from a kid that earlier said he wanted to be an Arizona state trooper. Pick a direction Junior, I don't think you can have it both ways. And yes I inhaled, and held my breath, a lot. Gary

  6. I need some help on the MKI to MKII brake upgrade. My rear swingarm is different on my 83 compared to my 88 donor bike The pin that the caliper bracket slides onto is a different dia. between the two models. The 83 has a smaller dia. pin on swing arm that matches the original caliper bracket. The 88 has a larger pin that is welded to the swing arm, and it matches the 88 caliper bracket. The 88 bracket, when put on the 83 swing arm flops around. What am I missing here. Bracket at top of picture is 88, bottom is 83. Hole is also slightly elongated in 88 bracket, by about .080". But there is no obvious signs of wear or fatigue. Hole is longer front to back than top to bottom. The holes are the same center line distance, picture is distorting this . Gary
  7. Here is a link to cleaning the brake & cluth switches on a 1st gen. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42720 I am not sure if the 2nd gens are similar. Gary
  8. I don't understand the problem here !! Mine are going to go right on !! No interference what so ever. Gary
  9. Attached is a partial wiring diagram showing just the cruise control related circuits. Complete wiring diagrams are located at: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42357 Gary

    TCI

There is no power on any of the 6 pin connectors. Mostly these go to the pick up coils and presure sensor. Link below is a schematic for your bike. 84-85 Yamaha Venture Royale DL Wiring Diagram Rev C.pdf TCI is bottom center/right. You should be able to read the coil resistance by ohming between the black common and the coil conductors. Coil resistance is 93 - 126 ohms. It would help people if you edited your User CP profile & put your bike year & model in it show it shows up by your avatar. See mine above in this post. Gary
  11. I think you have to remove middle drive cover. It's the one with the gear shift pattern on it. I could be wrong here though. Bike is in no condition to verify that. Best picture I have of it is from my parts bike below Gary
  12. What Squeeze said is the best start to locating problems. Below is a link to the schematics for the 1st gen ventures. Look at the simplified version for the 83 TK, it may help with the troubleshooting. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42358 Also there are write ups to cleaning the handlebar switches at the next link. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=68 Gary
  13. Dan, I have a spare side stand switch, you are welcome to it. Send me an address, and I'll send it out tomorrow. Gary
  14. That's a fine looking piece of work. Gary
  15. Monty, I'm not trying to cut you out of a sale, but... The 83 unit may not match the 86 tach unit for style. The first picture is of an 88 unit, which I think is similar to the 86. Second picture is of the 83 unit. Note differences in Speedo & Tach faces between the units. Gary
  16. I just looked at the manual back to the 83-85. Service manual indicates to align the notches. I am guessing you don't know how they were in prior to your disassembly, So I would think they should be put in as per manual. Any other way would probably be a crap shoot. Gary
  17. Also check the steel plates. There is a very subtle difference between the outer edge profiles. One will be slightly rounded, the other, somewhat what sharp. You want the sharp sides all on the same side. I haven't heard of a difference on which way overall stack off steel plates face, just that they are all oriented the same. Gary
  18. I think she said something about going on a trip a while back. Gary
  19. Time for a new mechanic !! Always better when you can do it yourself. It gives one a better understanding, and you really care if its done right. Gary
  20. I had located them on ebay. The sets I had gotten were auto intended. Amazon link [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Hella-90mm-Headlight-Connectors-Adjusters/dp/B000CSWB4S]Amazon.com: Hella 90mm Low Beam Headlight, H9 Bulb, Connectors, Adjusters, Each: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51EKKZNERYL.@@AMEPARAM@@51EKKZNERYL[/ame] Susquehanna style link http://www.rallylights.com/Hella_90mm_Halogen_and_Xenon_HID_Headlamp_Modules.aspx Giantlight link http://www.giantlight.com.tw/product/cate_8193_1.html I have include a picture attached that shows dimension of low beam unit. High beam is similar, just shorter in length. It will only fit 83-85, MKI ventures. The headlight housuing, on the 86-93 MKII, are totally different. Gary
  21. 10% off your next wrench order. You need a second one, right? Gary
  22. Try looking at this thread. There is a PDF in first post called Relays 101 The last few pages have some sample schematics for passing & driving lights. If that doesn't help repost here or PM me and I will try to help you out some more. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43150&highlight=relay Gary
  23. There is a thread dealing with this. I sorta stole Timgray's idea last year. I saw Tim's post on his concept of the lights and made my own version. Did not at the time intend to mass produce these, still don't really. I initially made two kits. one for myself, and the extra one I sold on ebay. The only reason at the time I even made second set was because I had to buy the lights in pairs from my supplier. The thread dealing with this is: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32922&highlight=halogen+headlight I have discussed my selling this with Tim and he is alright with it. I have also attached the install manual, if anyone would care to look at it. I will also provide the detailed drawings for the adapter plates if any one is interested in making their own. Please note that what is on ebay does not include the projector bulbs or wiring harness. I will assist anyone in the selection of these. Gary
  24. What is the Iridium plug # ? Gary
  25. From what I have been able to locate on the internet, Epoxy is brake fluid resistant. I have not yet tested the epoxy for a reaction to brake fluid though. I have mixed enough epoxy to fill a bottle cap half way up. I will let it harden over night. In the morning I will remove epoxy plug from bottle cap, and submerge in brake fluid. Gary
