  1. I have been working with one of our members, helping him install a CLASS system in an 88 standard 1st gen. He got a bad controller from ebay. He sent me his controller & compressor to check. The compressor is fine. Control head has deeper problems than the solder joint repair. I swapped my lower board with his and it did not correct problem. Also disassembled upper half of controller and saw no visible problems. Cleaned all contacts to no avail. If anyone could help a brother out, it would be appreciated by him. Gary
  2. I went to the restaurant Monday afteernoon & talked to manager. I just talked to manager & gave him an update. (10:10 am Wed) I am going to call him Friday afternoon with as close a count as I can get. Gary
  3. Maybe a good idea to keep Naugh-t's backside up against a wall though. Harder access for the pygmies, ya that's it, the pygmies. Gary
  4. I am going to disagree and agree with goose here. Yes, he is correct that the water is the same temp. on both sides. But that does not take into account that the water is being heated by the engine. The water can only remove a certain amount of heat. If heat exceeds designed cooling potential, then the excess heat will be dissipated in other ways. There is the possibility that one or both cylinders on one side or the other are running at a lean condition. This will cause those cylinders to run hotter than the cylinders which are running at a correct or rich fuel mixture. The flow of water only cools the water jacketed parts of the block & heads. It does not cool the exhaust manifolds which are an intense source of heat. The lean cylinders will run a higher exhaust manifold temp. Gary
  5. That's the place. So far I have 70 people & 42 bikes, assuming everyone is riding. Not sure about Freebird, may be Saturday before bike is well again. Bongobobby may come from hotel. 6. Below is a link that details how to disassemble & clean the switches for the clutch lever, and both brake levers. Plenty of pictures to guide you. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43024 Gary
  7. Hey Boomer, You better get your swabby behind in gear. I talked the navigator into making a couple of cheesecakes. Gary
  8. Goose, Are you bring your exhaust gas analyzer to MD? Gary
  9. Anyone that wants to come is welcome. I am just trying to get a rough head count. I will let manager know late Friday afternoon an approximate number, and it could increase at last minute as far as I am concerned. This is a fairly large place. Car & motorcycle themed. Gary
  10. Attached are front and rear scans of the menu at Quaker Steak & Lube for anyone interested in going Friday night from MD. Manager said they could accommodate us, I told him I would try to let him know Friday afternoon how many were coming. Try to leave Don's 7:00-7:30pm. Its about 30 minute ride from Don's. It's in Sheffield Village, not Oberlin,as post title would suggest. I added PDF file of menu scans, its a little more readable. Almost 2 meg size. Gary
  11. Nothing really wrong with them to keep you away from one. It is not a Second Gen though. The 2nd gen refers to 1999-2010 Royal Star Ventures. 1983-1993 are 1st gens. 1983-1985 are refered to as MKI's. 1986-1993 are refered to as MKII's 2nd gens are a whole nother critter than 1st gen's, much more different than they are similar. MKI's & MKII's are very similar. Look at the Venture history tab in menu above. Gary
  12. Pickup coil or TCI. My guess is TCI. Gary
  13. That's one of the nice things about having a 27 year old motorcycle. People don't have as high of expectations as to what it's suppose to look like. I got a Ridin' Machine, not a Washin' Machine. Gary
  14. The primary function of the back up circuit is to supply un-switched 12v power to the radio. This enables radio to maintain time & station presets. I would hazard a guess that the RSV's have a some sort of long life battery internally as well, due to odometer storage. Gary
  15. I was told by a local locksmith that motorcycles after 1998 no longer have a key code on the bike. Reason was that people could get code # one way or another, then have key made, then steal bike. He seemed to know what he was talking about. Gary

    Morons

Hey Boomer, this ones for you. "Well," snarled the tough old Navy Chief to the bewildered Seaman. "I suppose after you get discharged from the Navy, you'll just be waiting for me to die so you can come and piss on my grave." "Not me, Chief!" the Seaman replied. "Once I get out of the Navy, I'm never going to stand in line again!" Semper Fi... Gary

Junior, There is an old adage that goes something like this. It is better to keep your mouth shut, and let people think your a fool, Rather than opening it, and removing all doubt. Gary
  18. If you want some more detailed info on installing a relay look at thread below. There is a detailed PDF file attached to the first post that will guide you through it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43150&highlight=relay Gary
  19. Quaker Steak & Lube is about a 20 mile, 30 minute ride from Don's. I haven't been to this one, but I have been to the one down in Columbus a number of times. If anyone is interested I could pursue getting us set up there, it might help Don out. Below is a link to yahoo review. http://local.yahoo.com/info-15542480-quaker-steak-lube-sheffield-village;_ylc=X1MDMjAyMjQ2NzAxMQRfcgMyBF9zAzk2NjEzNzcwBGFjY3RpZANbb2JqZWN0IE9iamVjdF0EZ2lkAzE1NTQyNDgwBHNlYwNhbGdvBHNsawNtb3Jl Gary
  20. I just put a set of progressives in the bike. The Progressive instruction states the MAXIMUM oil level should be 5 1/2" down from top with forks collapsed and the fork spring removed. You do not need an expensive fork oil level adjuster to set the height. Use a piece of clear vinyl tubing and a suction bulb (turkey baster). Mark the tubing to the depth you want to set the oil level at and insert it into fork tube to this level and suction oil out. If you need to add oil, a small wooden dowel inserted into tube will give an approximate depth of oil. I set mine with the forks fully extended. The service manual shows a 5 1/2" travel for the front forks. So I marked tubing at 11" (5 1/2 (recommended height) + 5 1/2" (fork travel)) and set oil level. Progressive installation sheets attached below. Gary
  21. Mick, I have a set that came off of an 88 1st gen. The MKII's have a different profile than the MKI levers. I didn't use them. these. These have the finger ridges removed and are powder coated black. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT0245-1.jpg
  22. That's good for me. Gary
  23. Does anyone have a plan on what time we would leave Don's for dinner on Friday? My wife works Friday, so I would probably ride back down to Mansfield and pick her up at 5:30, then be back at Don's by 6:30. Gary
  24. Good thing they gave those second gen's a five year warranty. Those first gen's are like an Energizer Bunny, keep going & going & going, till you can't see how far ahead they are !!! http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/energizer.jpg Gary
