  1. Well, this was very unexpected. I told my wife that i needed to make some pictures of this thing and she comes back saying she's been thinking:think: _ I know, I know, that's a potentially dangerous situation right there!!:stickpoke:Anyway, she blindsides me with the comment that she may just want to start riding it .......:puzzled:. :duck:Where the hell did that come from:icon_smile_question:icon_smile_question She's only been willing to get on the bike with me since about September last year and granted I've only gotten back on about two and a half year ago. Now she wants to ride??? Oh well, more power to her! At least she's wanting to take the safety class. Bottom line: the bike is apparently not for sale. Sorry!!
  2. It's a 98, it had less then 10K on it when I bought it in August '07 so i misstated the mileage. Probably closer to 14/15. Lets say I am asking $3500.
  3. My stepson has been riding my shadow of and on. The other day he found a puddle of fairly big cooling fluid under the kickstand. He says it is coming out of the overflow(?) Also says the cooling fan isn't coming on. With the bike being at his place, makes it a bit harder to see what is going on but I told him I'd ask y'all. I supose a lack of cooling might cause too much expansion so I told him to check the fuse and power the fan separately to make sure it is still working. Are there any other things to do to see why it suddenly is "blowing" out fluid? Thanks! btw: Since he prefers to borrow his friends HD, I am open to offers if you or someone you know wants to buy this low mileage bike. Black, 22K miles(+/-), windshield, highway pegs, sissy bar, new leather trunk bag.
  4. Friend of mine picked up some MC part while clearing a foreclosed property, then turned and gave them to me!! They're from a Mk1!! Entire rear subframe, w. fender, sadlebags and trunk, roll bars; stock exhausts; left side engine cover; left side inner/outer front fairing, the "knee fairings" and the radio/accesorry covers for both sides. Also fuel tank, carb set and valve covers plus some small schtuff I haven't quite gone through. From what's there and scuff marks on the right saddlebags, I'm thinking the bike may have been wrecked. Wouldn't have minded the rest:whistling:, but I'm not complaining. Now what am I going to do with all that stuff :scratchchin:and how am I going to open those bags:cool17:
  5. Wouldn't the cable company be able to stop this on their end?? I am using a secure router which requires an access key in order to log on to the "network", 2 computers which are not linked. Without the key you can't get on (unless you are really good at hacking?) Good luck!
  6. Also, just to confirm that the adjustable side louvres on the fariing by the knees will redirect engine heat to one's legs? No, air intakes are on the fairing just above the horn and air is channeled to blow on your legs. With age they tend to stop working as should and you may have to tie them open. there are some threads which will describe what folks have done.
  7. Think you'd have a problem with LED's cycling through red and blue, imagine the look on a cops face when he sees THAT!!!
  8. So what do you put on a '83?? had standard (?) pegs on the engine guard, and they were cocked forward with only the outside half usable. Not my idea of comfortable.

    Im Safe

FWIW: Realizing that Iraq is a totally different theater then Afganistan right now. My (step) son tells me they are overrun with toothpaste and baby wipes. We just sent him a box with razor blades (disposable blades break when your pack is your bed), socks (to wear and throw, since the ones they have are constantly wet), lip balm, shoe inserts since they are on their feet all day (and yes he has foot problems) as well as some toys (frisbees, chess/checker set) Basra likley has some more amenities then an outpost so things aren't quite equal. Clay, stay safe and let everyone know what you would need. Thanks for what you're doing!!
  10. Lived in a house had a couple of them thar critters. Never got to sleep through the night. Scorpions in the bed don't help none either. 'specially if you lay down on one!!!
  11. There are no modern string trimmers running on 25:1:no-no-no:. Use at least 40:1 or 50:1 depending on 2-cycle oil brand
  12. Maybe her mic is worn out??
  13. Have never heard anyone mention this :scratchchin:, but, if the 2nd Gen was such a great idea:crackup:, why did BMW come out with at least one model that looks suspiciously like a 1st Gen:innocent:?? Mebbe them Germans hired those 1st Gen designers that Yamaha replaced with HD designers:think:. Due to their background, all they could do was take a Shadow and throw some extra parts on it from the junk bin:buttkick: and voila, 2nd Gen!!
  14. Washed the wells with brake cleaner and then blew them out with compressed air. New plugs are in and yes I gapped them according to the manual. Thanks for the advise.
  15. I'm putting new plugs in prior to riding tomorrow. With some valve cover seepage I have a little oil on the seats and the right rear plug has collected grime. How do I get this out?? Not being able to see in there, can I flush it with WD40 or straight gas?? Would it do harm if it disappears in the cylinder? Other options?? Thanks!
  16. That sucks Tom, good luck with the clean up!! So what the heck happened? major rain event, creek overflowed, you sitting on an aquafier? I.e. why do you need a sump pump?
  17. Why didn't you call the homeowners insurance?? Storm damage of the roof might have given you a whole new one??!!
  18. Saw those; excluding mounting hardware and linkages I believe. Just figured I'd rather get them from someone from this group if they are comparably priced and/or have all the parts. >>I have a pair but can't get to them for at least a month. Can't get my shed door open until the ground thaws... wouldn't be a problem, I am not in a hurry, just let me know. Thanks
  19. Want to pull my running boards and heel toe shifter and replace them with foot pegs and controls and three way adjustable highway boards that sit on the engine guard. (I saw Blackjack has some of the latter for those who know him) for my '83 royale. If you have some pegs/controls or know of someone who has them and wants to part with them, give me a shout. Thanks!
  20. I've got some oil coming from somewhere and thought it isn't much I had the oil level drop to the full mark (yes it was slightly overfilled) Also had the indicator light come on while driving. So yes, I added some oil and my oils warning light is now not continuously on. Added maybe 10 Oz FWIW: CMU was checked and fixed and the connection at the oil sensor seems to be tight. Maybe th sensor itself is on its way out.
  21. Sorry about your Dad! Friend of mine takes his dog with him on the HD. Basically sits in his lap, front paws on the tank. Dog loves it! Forget what kind dog it is but it weighs in around 20#.
  22. Hmm!!! Don't get me started. I suppose she has custody? Do you have visitation? At 15 the child may have been allowed a say in where he wants to live (even in backwards SC). I concur, it is quite possible your son is trying to defend you, but gets beaten down. If he is, as my wife likes to call them, a Titty Baby he is not likely to do so. Nothing you can do if he won't talk to you. Seems your daugther is your only link to him right now. You'll have to stay positive and can't say anything bad about the ex. Much as I hate to say it, since it is not her place, ask your daughter to convey a hi/hello/love you, etc, to him. Maybe have her ask if he wants to meet for breakfast/lunch w. no strings with the three of you. It's rough on kids and they don't all deal well with it, my stepson to this day (15 yrs) seems to blame Mom, my own kids still favor their Mom. Only time man, only time. If you have to come before the judge again perhaps he can "suggest" that this type behavior is detrimental to the kids. May help! One other thing you may want to keep in mind. You provide discipline, structure, demand responsibility and respect, provide a better environment for them and chances are they will go the other way if they can do what they want with the other parent (been there to the point my son admitted he would be better of living with me, but didn't!!). They may try to play you against each other and try the blame game. Be who you are, do as you always did, nothing more!!! nothing less. Good luck!!
  23. Probably realized he didn't have reserve on that thing!!!
  24. Definitely not diesel!1 Will admit to starting a fill up on the truck with regular though. I'll check on the plugs and drain fuel from reserve before adding Heet. thanks for the input!!
  25. Brad, Made my own set per your direction. Found the battery lugs to be a bit cumbersome to deal with with the re-install though and wouldn't mind finding something a tad smaller. Regardless I am talking to "Rody" about making him a set, which I will likely do this weekend. I'll get enough supplies to make several. (Got that Rody?)
