Headlight bulb........
N3FOL replied to BoomerCPO's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am in contact with Custom Dynamics now and am trying to eliminate the need for Load Equalizers. Looking at the Dynamic Clusters and LED Tail light...the only problem is that there is no listing for the 1157 replacement for the clusters...they have the 7507 type which I think is different than the 1157's. Am still awaiting an answer from them. IMO and with the product description and installation, the Dynamic Cluster LED's may not need the LE's. -

I see that these clusters are not DOT approved. Will the cops give you a hard time? -

Those clusters look very nice, but honestly...I am not too thrilled with the idea that I have to hook wires to the existing running wire and brake wire. How much more involved will the wiring connections be? How about your front Amber running and signal lights? What did you use? The rear running light and brake housing? Did you need any load equalizers? -

Sounds good...I think I can live with a slightly faster blink rate and not loose my auto cancelling turn signal and Hazard flasher capability. However, not so sure about what exactly I need to get for my '07 Venture for the rear running and brake light as well as for my front LED running and signal Amber + Rear Amber Turn signals. Do you have part #'s for me to look up? -

That is not good...I may just opt for the LED run/brake light...maybe...this will require me to think about it. I wish I can have them all LED's without the Load Equalizer including turn signals. -

I've seen 1156 Amber LED and 1157 Red LED available through chromeglow.com. They also mentioned that if your LED's blink faster than normal, a 'Load Equalizer' is required. I am thinking of getting them and you are right it is very pricey ($20.00+ bucks for each). However, do you know if the Venture will need a load equalizer. If it does, I may skip on this idea. -

I like the chromeglow link. This is a great christmas gift for my Venture. -

That is true, it can be questionable around our town as well. As you know, the rear lens of the Venture has a clear part on the top part. With the amber amber bulb, it may not look kosher to the authorities. -

Thanks Boomer CPO. I think I may have some clear 1157's in my garage, however the LED Pod does sound like a very nice mod. What exactly is it called? I'll be checking Cruiser Customizing soon. So, is it just a plug and play kind of thing? -
From my readings, higher octane fuel is better for storage. Lower octane fuel has more ethanol and thus attracts more moisture.

I have had the Silverstar in my bike for 2 years and about 25,000 miles. It is a great improvement over stock. I have been very pleased. However, I carry the stock bulb with me in my tool kit - along with an extra brake light. RR That is a good idea...carry a spare rear bulb and headlight buld. I see the headlight is a H4 bulb probably somewhere around 65W hi and 55W lo. How about the rear bulb, what type is it? How many bolts to remove in order to replace that headlight bulb (just in case). Have not really looked at this yet, since I just bought the bike last Sept. -
I can't wait to see one in person, once I get to visit a local bike show coming up soon in our local area. The Voyager has a bigger engine, but does not have all the accessories that I want. The Venture still has a lot more to offer.

My first impression was...Unbelievable design...but not my cup of tea.

A headlight for $42 dollars, I think that is too expensive. Sylvania do sell Moto specific lamps that will cost only cost you $20. I saw this type of bulb at Advance Auto stores. -
I am glad that you and your wife did not get into some serious trouble when the tire gave way...sorry to hear about your bad experience with Metzlers. Regards and ride safe.

I agree, a Relay has lots of good application for our Venture. My driving lights has an On/Off switch and is on all the time when on Lo and Hi beam. I also prefer to have my driving lights off because IMO it lengthens the life of the bulbs. How about a write-up with pics...this will definitely help a lot of members.

Not really trying to bait anyone to buy Metzlers (do not own any stock with them), just trying to interact with the discussion and wondering myself why Metzlers are not as popular to the Venture as compared to the Vulcans. There is also a good financial reason why Yamaha chose to pick Bridgestones to be the OEM tire on their nice Ventures. Your observations are valid and is a safety concern to all Venture riders, so I am very glad that people have the chance voice out their experience. If down the road I do not see any problems with my tires, I will certainly keep them on for until the end of its useful like as a tire...then I will decide between Bridgestones, Dunlop, Avon, and due to this thread Metzlers can be my very last choice on tires. 2nd, I never really commented anything on the number of Metzler tire failures on this thread. In fact, I am a former owner of bike that had Metzler tires and couldn't be any happier with them on my Vulcan. It is a good assumption that because of the heavier weight of the Venture compared to other cruisers, the Metzler may be not the perfect tire. There will always be other Venture riders out there that will still stick to Metzlers and as always, I do wish that nobody experience any more tire failures no matter what manufacturer tire they are using be a motorcycle tire or a car tire. Since I had no problems with my previous Metzlers on my Vulcan, I cannot comment on the quality of customer service Metzler has. Ultimately, this is a free country so riders have the freedom to choose what kind of tire they would like to install on their Venture. If the Metzler problem appears to be worsening, it may be a good idea that members file a complaint to the appropriate vehicle transportation board...NTSB perhaps to document this particular issue. Ride safe everyone.

Very interesting and worth noting. I am obviously not at that kind of mileage yet (6K) and may or may not experience the same problem you had. So far so good (knocking on wood) as far as my OEM Bridgestones are concerned. Right now, I try to keep my tire pressure at 36F and 39R and hopefully it will last as long as I still have safe tread on them. There is another thread and the members seem to like D404's (was OEM on my Vulcan) and Dunlop Elite are their choices.

Looks like some and not all riders have problems with Metzlers. The last time I checked my Odo I have close to 1800 miles, so it may take one more season before I start thinking of a tire replacement. As it stands now, OEM Bridgestones may be my 1st choice and then Avon.

Very nice lift! That looks to be the perfect bike lift to be able to do your own motorcyle maintainance and repair. Congrats.

Glitches on my 2004 Midnight Edition
N3FOL replied to Hal Lutzinator's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Electrical problems is one of the most difficult to diagnose and very time consuming. As suggested, it could be as simple as a loose battery cable. It also could be a wire that has been 'kicked' and pressed against something that can cause its fuse to blow. Also have a reputable shop run a diagnosis on the health of your battery. Hope you can have all the issues fixed soon and welcome to the forum. Ride safe.
