  1. Thanks for the Link...Bookmarked it.
  2. I have just a little over 3K miles on the bike. The rear tire still has a lot of life left. However, I do plan to grease the drive shaft splines sometime this summer. Questions: Do I have to drain the drive shaft final drive and remove the rear tire before I remove the shaft? Can I just keep the rear tire on and work on the shaft? Do I have to remove the rear muffler (left side) in order to work on the shaft?
  3. Yes, I do have a set of Tie Down straps. I may opt to strap the bike on the jack instead...I am afraid my garage door opener is not strong enough to handle such weight.
  4. I also have the Carbon One jack adapter with legs. With the jack centered, if I remove just the Rear Wheel and raise it high enough to clear the Rear fender to remove...will the bike tip over and fall to the front? This may be my worst nightmare in the garage.
  5. A fellow Venturerider.org member gave me this link. I bought the Carbtune from them. http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CST&Category_Code=MORGAN There is a writeup in the Tech Section on how to synch carbs complete with pics.
  6. You are right, there is really very little oil in there. I will go ahead and replace that as well. I bought a large bottle last year and with that, it may last for about 10 or more oil changes. As for the Molybdenum grease, what is the advantage of adding this to the Final Drive Oil?
  7. C'mon. Our 2nd gens. are not that bad.
  8. As well all know, an Oil Change and Filter replacement is cheap insurance. The best part is that our Venture is very easy to replace the oil and filter (easier than my Vulcan). I also have replaced my Final Drive oil (last Oil change) and am thinking of replacing it again this weekend...What do you guys think about replacing the Final Drive lubricant after only 3K miles?
  9. We always have to keep a presence of mind while riding the Venture. It is a beast in its own way and I give it a lot of respect. I also had some close calls, but I managed to keep it upright. When parking, I always pick a nice spot and depending on the slope I may park head in or back in for an easy pull out. Ride safe.
  10. Any specific time we are supposed to meet at the restaurant or designated location?
  11. I do a lot of night riding especially when coming home from work. It sure is very relaxing and much less traffic around you. As you all know and must be aware, watch out for the deer population and small animals. LED lighting is the way to go to light up the night. Ride safe.
  12. I didn't ride to work today. After giving my Venture a nice bath and polish after picking up all the salt residue on the roads of SE Pa. and Md., I decided to let the rain come tomorrow to wash off the salt. Riding may commence once again on Wednesday or Thursday. On the way home, Valvoline 10W40 Moto Oil is in my 'To Buy' list.
  13. I am happy to report that I am getting close to Log In almost 3000 miles this Winter season and my Venture will need another Oil Change. (wish I had more miles:cold:) This coming weekend, Oil Change, Oil Filter, Synch Carbs, and check idle will be done in my garage. Riding season for most folks is coming soon. Give your ride a brand new 'Oil Transfusion'. Ride safe.
  14. I may be able to make that date, April 18, 2009. It has been very busy at work, but if weather permits...I will be there. Keep us posted as the date gets near.
  15. Personally, it will depend on how old the tire is. If the tire has less than 5K miles, I may take the risk and have it plugged. However, I would never run a plugged tire that is almost bald. * Check your air pressure constantly as necessary and ride safe.
  16. I just had a feeling that there is a good reason why Yamaha designed to have the Carbs heated. My carbs will remain in tact and not disconnecting anything in there.
  17. Joe, Wish you all the best on your new job. You did the right thing and gave priority to the things that matters most in your life. Stick around and let us know how everything is doing down the road. Regards.
  18. I agree. Get it done soon, because dealers are starting to get busy with the start of the riding season. Warranty shall cover your problem. It was so nice today that I spent most of my day washing off salt from my cars and polished the bike. Rode for about an hour running errands today...
  19. I personally like having a neutral light that function as it was designed for. I don't want to find out that I am not actually in Neutral, when I release the clutch in my garage:Sad_0241:. +1 on taking it back to a Yamaha dealer for a Warranty work. Good Luck.
  20. I always choke in cold temps and it fires right up. Normally, I'll put the choke to its normal position after a minute of idling. After 4 to 5 minutes, my ride is ready to go. Take V7Goose's advise, it will point you to the right direction.
  21. bill739, I know you will agree that salt air will cause rust to develop on your bike. If I lived in Florida, I would be cleaning my bike almost every day or every other day depending on the amount or riding. Keep up with the cleaner and polisher on the bike. I would give the bike a nice wash at least every month and maintain a steady regiment of polish on the frame, chrome, etc. This is a good way to spend more time with your ride daily. Regards.
  22. You live in the same State as Goose...he may be able to help you make a decision. Personally, 100K is a lot of miles but the deciding factor as mentioned before is the price and mechanical condition of the bike.
  23. Not sure why these switches are having problems. I wonder if most of the switch problem occurs after 5 years and the bike is out of Warranty. (just my luck) The first time I washed my bike, I made sure that I do not get the top portion wet especially near the speakers / dash area. Good to know that a write-up exist.
  24. Your best bet is too listen to yourself. If you are overworked and stressed out, the immune system's ability to fight infection is greatly diminished. Then you won't be able to enjoy riding, attend rallies, work on your Venture, etc. I keep on telling myself, I'd rather be poor than sick. My consolation, I don't have to listen to a wife...I am single.
  25. Congrats on the install, Jet Man. Now, it is time to light up the sky. Ride safe.
