  1. On your Michelins riding 2 up, what psi do you have on your rear? Just curious.
  2. I enjoyed reading all your comments on every tire that could possibly fit our Venture. I contacted American Moto and inquired about Michelin Commanders. Their Load rating for the rear is 74 (827 lbs) and 71 (761 lbs) for the front. At 827 lbs, that is pretty much the whole weight of the bike. So...I may get at least Dunlop E3s for a load rating of 77 for the rear. Still undecided, but I will place my order today and will post here what I actually ended up getting.
  3. I've seen a Commander (front tire) with a load rating of 77H. I may go ahead and settle for a set of Michelins. It is just a matter of time.
  4. I think I should say Seal instead of Bushing.
  5. Their site does not list the rear size (150/90/15). I've looked everywhere and all I can find are Regular D404, Bridgestones G702, Avon Venom (nice tire), and Michelin Commanders. I saw one for the front E3...not the rear. I may end up buying Michelin Commanders or Avon Venom. What is the load rating of Michelin Commanders?
  6. I think everything is slowly falling in place in my head. Now that makes sense to me to use a fine brush to just clean out the rear pin hub holes. Can you guys mention more about the shaft drive seal (2 needed). I hope I can recognize them once I get everything opened up. One other important question, which bolts would require Blue or Red Loctite during re-installlation? Acorn Nuts? ... +1 on the acid brush. I am imagining, just apply a thin coat of Honda Moly60. Option b: .45 brush is under a buck...may be my best choice.
  7. I read in this forum something about replacing 2 small bushings, once you pull out the shaft to grease them. I'll try to locate that thread.
  8. Do I really need to polish the inside of the bushing where the fingers fit?
  9. I always take a look and keep on checking the inner and outer pad every time I clean the wheels. They both still look great after 8K miles. I bought Speedbleeders for my Venture and just waiting for the time I replace the rear tire - good time to bleed the rear brakes. Thanks for the reminder.
  10. Thanks Goose. That is what I want to hear. Yeah, I've seen that 74H on the tire. Knowing that the E3 is 77H, this makes me feel much better and gearing towards the E3. Dragonrider, Avons seems to be the best but on the high end. I believe that "what you pay for is what you get...":). The first one to tell me which site has the best deal for E3's, that is where I'll get them from. Promise.
  11. I hope they got your bike fixed under warranty. Any warning signs before this happened?
  12. In a few months, I'll be taking off my rear tire for replacement. Now I also have to think about greasing the splines, etc. What parts should I have on hand, before I tackle the job: 1) J&H Jack - on hand 2) Carbon One with Legs - on hand 3) Bolt to remove the axle bolt - What size do I need for this? Socket? 4) Shaft Drive Seal part - (need 2) - part # 93108-43013-00 - will order soon. 5) Honda Moly60 Tube - will order soon. 6) Rear End Gear Oil - on hand 7) ??? 8) ???
  13. Thanks for all your response. Now you guys got me thinking more? I agree, tires is something you should not compromise on...I've looked and looked (must be looking in the wrong place) and could not find the best site where they sell Dunlop Elite 3 Rear tires. Can someone also please educate me on Bias as opposed to Radial Tires for motorcycles. The OEM Bridgestones are Bias tires. I am very ready to buy, just want to find the best deal.
  14. 5000 miles on a tire is very low even if I guess we are talking about sport bike tires . I will have to think this over real good. The Elite's according to past threads in this forum are great tires. Not sure if they sell this or not. Avon tires are the most expensive at $160 per tire...potentially may last longer too.
  15. I almost have 9K miles on my OEM Bridgestones and I may be able to squeeze in another 2K. Had some feel on D404's and put in 15K miles on in, but that was from a lighter bike. Yep, the price is good with Free Shipping. I can also get OEM G702 Bridgestones for 10 bucks more per tire. Thanks for your input.
  16. Currently shopping around for tires and came across motorcycle-superstore's website and came across the best deal on Dunlop D404 (Rear and Front). - 150/90H-15 for $90.99 (Rear) and -150/80H-16 for $97.99 (Front). For both tires, it is free shipping. What do you guys think? Not sure if radial or bias, etc. I may go ahead and order these tires tomorrow, before Monday.
  17. Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to know that both of you are ok. Get healed soon and hope you can get a replacement ride in the near future. I also have an '07 and regularly check my tire pressure. This time, I may pay closer attention to the valve stems as well. My rear tire may have 2K miles left, so I am debating whether to keep the old valve stem or have them replace it with a new one. Not sure what the standard procedure is for tire changes ... unless if we ask for the valve stem to be replaced.
  18. Well, it only happened to me just once so far...as I was cruising down the highway and placed it on CC and it won't engage with the 'SET' light lit. Tried to turn off and cancel and re-engage CC with no success. I was just travelling at 70 mph:cry:...got home, parked the bike and rode the next day. Long behold, CC is working once again. Never had any problems ever since...so far.
  19. Not sure how long you would like to ride in the cold and where. With my setup, I have Gerbings Gloves and Liner. With temps in the 40's, I can ride for an hour or two with no problems with just gloves, chaps, and my leather jacket. I do not have to turn on the liner. With temps in the 20's and 30's, I will just turn On my liner for a few minutes and then I have to turn it off. It will be just my gloves that will be turned On most of the time. Chaps is more than enough for my legs. As you know, you have good wind deflection right by your legs, so this is not an issue for me. For Liners, Pants, and Gloves....that is really an overkill...you will sweat in the dead of winter. IMO, Gloves and Jacket Liner and a good pair of Chaps will do the trick for Maryland riding. I live in PA. and work in MD....when you have your Gerbing gear all turned on...it is ideal that you are crusing down the highway so that you do not kill your battery.
  20. I'm not so sure what you mean about water on the bottom of the tank. Please enlighten us on this phenomena. I rarely go on Reserve, but it has happened to me a few times on the interstate. If the intention is to at least empty out the tank as much as possible until you put in fresh gas in there, this may be beneficial.
  21. The term makes me :rotfl:time to time. It sure is funny everytime I read something about it. Well guess what, I arrived home from work last night and long behold...I turned off the fuel petcock. I just have to make sure to turn it back On before I ride today.
  22. They are great bikes. Not sure on the specific model, but an acquaintance tried to replace his front brakes on his BMS and the calipers shut closed. The only way he can open it back up is to tow his bike to the dealer, so they can hook up a laptop to let the calipers open. I do love the performance, but if you ever decide to purchase a BMW, be ready to pay a little bit more on maintenance work.
  23. You started to make me think more about shutting off the fuel petcock. As mentioned earlier, I also turn my petcock time to time just to give me a peace of mind that it still turns. I may start to turn off my fuel petcock once parked inside the garage. Better be safe than sorry.
  24. Negative on this end. I always leave it at the opened position and occasionally turn the petcock all the way to reserve and back to normal position. Ride Safe.
