    So with this mod, if I am not mistaken the passing lamp will appear to be about an inch or so forward aft to the headlight. Does it appear to be sticking out in front?

    +1 on this. I installed LEDs on them and they are very bright at night. You can find this assembly on eBay used or Brand New. Only basic tools needs and as stated, perhaps just 30 minutes of your time. BTW, I got my lights via eBay used from a HD owner.

    I am really very happy to own the Venture and have a nice group of fellow riders that share the same passion for riding. This thread definitely gave me a confidence booster and enabled me to go ahead and tackle the challenge with ease and great support from members. For the bottom line, you are right, I saved a few dollars... Regards.

    I love the cold air, while riding. You never sweat underneathe. We have a low of 30 degrees and may warm up to 39 degrees today with lots of Sun. I am prepping my bike for a ride to and from work this coming Monday. Ride safe.

    So it was snowing all day today and luckily managed to work in the garage to remove the front fairing to diagnose my inoperabe Passing Lamps. First was the removal of the fairing. Thanks to all of your help, this made the task smoother. Now I know why that chrome piece in front of the windshield has to be handled carefully, the tabs and corners are just plastic and can easily break if not careful. To make my long story short, it took me about 30 minutes to remove the fairing and my troubleshooting skills kicked into play:rudolf:. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the fuse holder's wires were a little loose and was not making contact with the fuse holder itself (the fuse is not blown). I decided to just replace the fuse holder with another type that I had purchased long time ago...turned on the switch and ....my Passing Lamps are back to life once again. Looks like the dealer that installed my lamps just let the fuse holder dangle freely inside the fairing. As a fix, I secured most of the wires with tie wraps and made sure that that fuse holder is not going to move at all inside. BTW, my switch is still good and fairly looks brand new. Thanks to Venturerider Forum for making this task as painless as possible for me. Ride Safe Everyone. I've got below.

    My switch feels and clicks fairly well, so I lightly do not suspect that the switch is bad.

    I just knew it, the fuse holder is inside the fairing. I'm ready to tackle the job and get in there...it is just a matter of time and patience. BTW, does someone know what kind of fuse to get? BUSS type - Amps?

    I use my Passing Lamps day and night. (if my dang Lamps would only work soon)...Oh yes, it definitely makes you more noticeable out there with more lights in front of you. Sitting in the parking lot...it sure makes the Venture look sexy. Ride Safe.

    No, all the wires are out of the way and not being pinched. I really hope that the fuse is blown.

    You are right, there are no 2 Phillips screws on the bottom...just one allen head screw and it won't take off the chrome cover around the headlight. I do see wires coming from the center and of the lamp bracket and goes towards the switch next to the 12V receptable. I have a feeling that the dealer will charge me at least an hour...probably more to get in the fairing and replace the inline fuse. So, I decided to tackle the job myself. I hope I can pull the front fairing off easily with the passing lamp still installed as depicted on your tech link. Friday late afternoon after dinner is the big day and I hope I can put it all back together that same night...I just have to be very careful with that chrome piece in front of the windshield. BTW, what type of fuse that is come with? I'd like to pick one up today and be ready for Friday.

    I spoke to my closest local Yamaha dealership (16 miles) and inquired about a warranty repair for my Passing Lamps. They stated that if the problem was caused by the other dealer as a result of a kinked wire as an example, I will be responsible for the repair bill. They also stated that depending on the problem, it may or may not be a warranty issue since it did not come from the factory. However, they said I can bring in the bike this time of the year and they will take me right away (shop must not be too busy). So I am scheduled to take the bike this Friday afternoon. On the other hand, I went ahead and called the dealer that installed my Passing Lamps and inquired about the inline fuse. They said that it can be accessed from the front by removing two Phillips screws located just below the headlight. The chrome ring should come off and a white fuse holder will be visible. They added that vibration can cause the fuse to blow and it is very unlikely that both lamps will go out. When I come home from work, removing two screws is an easier task than actually removing the fairing. Hope it is just a fuse problem.

    Where exactly was your inline fuse located? How did you get to it?

    Great write up with pics indeed. Thanks for the link. Option A will be to go to a dealer and have them fix it. Option B...To Be Determined...maybe split the fairing myself.

    That does make sense. The passing lamp was a dealer installed accessory for the Venture...so this may be covered under warranty. The only problem is the dealer where I bought the Venture is apx. 600 miles away near the PA/OH border. Do you think another Yamaha dealer may be willing to take a look at this as a warranty work? My issue...it is an accessory.

    Hmmmm. That does not sound good if the ground wire would just break off inside the lamp housing. I'm hesitant to go in the lamp itself...I will have to think about that hard and decide what my options are. As far as the switch is concerned, I probably will have to get in the fairing which I have never done...might break something in the process. However, I see 3 or 4 allen head bolts on the left and right side of the fairing...is this all i have to take out and the rear side should pop off?

    My wiring appears to be ok. Well insulated done by the dealer. If no luck on tracing for the trouble...I may be forced to open the fairing. However, Freebird does have a good point...I suspected 40% that the switch may be the culprit. Coming home tonight around 8 pm was not a problem since the Venture really had a nice headlight that is bright enough...but I really want my passing lamps to light up soon...

    Yes. They did install a switch next to the 12V receptacle. The switch does click, but there was a time when the switch did not click the right way and the lamps did not turn on right away. IMO, the switch looks good for now...but you are right...the switch does feel funny right now. Any other suggestions...? Should I think about replacing the switch or just keep the switch on the ON position and start the bike that way in order to minimize wear and tear in the future.

    I have my passing lamp dealer installed at the time I purchased the bike. I went for a ride last Monday and discovered that my passing lamp (both lights) are no longer working. I checked the fuse box on the left side of the bike and all fuses are ok. All other lights work, rear lights, and turn signals work...except my passing lamps. Where else should I look...do I have to split the fairing (left side)?

    I've been using Valvoline 10W40 Moto Oil and Fram Moto Oil Filter ever since. I still have have 4 quarts of the Valvoline Moto Oil and Fram Filter on stand by in the garage for my next oil change. After that, I am going to try out Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5W40 and Purolator Oil Filter as has been used by some forum members. There is just one condition to this...I should verify with my own eyes that the Rotella Oil does have some wet clutch application written on the jug.

    Nice read... Tomorrow, I am filling my tank and putting a ¼ can of the Seafoam. I do this every 2 months. Not sure if I have to do it once a month, so every 2 months IMO is sufficient for now. Ride Safe.

    I'd like to read more about replacing the clutch on my 2nd Gen. It is not time for replacement yet, but I'd like to educate myself. Pics are very helpful. What is the link?

    I still can not imagine myself paying $800 for the pipes. I usually like the silent mode, so my OEM mufflers are staying with me.

    Ok folks. We still have lots of Turkey left. One whole Turley was still untouched inside the oven, when we left my parent's house. We have 2 more cooked Turkey inside the ref ready to go, but I think I will have to Freeze one and eat that next year. For Lunch, I'll have Turkey with Cranberry Sauce w/ a little bit of rice and fruit salad. I guess I will have to workout before the end of the day.
