This info. is really good to know. I'm not sure if I really have to put some lubricant just on the tip of the hose and brass outer area to keep the hose from binding in the long run. If this idea is ok, I may go ahead and apply some white lithium grease or similar to it.

Greasing Swing Arm bearings?
N3FOL replied to Sleeperhawk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I may have missed it somewhere, so what kind of grease did you use? HondaMoly60 is ok? -
Good Question. I would do the same thing, it this has not been done for a long time. If I am not mistaken, replace gear oil at least every 16,000 miles according to the manual. (Personally, my gear oil has been changed at 600 miles, 4000 miles, and then at 11500 miles.) It won't hurt to replace it with the right type of gear oil. Regards.

If I recall it correctly, he got the Intense White bulb.

These jacks are great and I've never had problems with it. Well made item and I highly recommend this for your Venture including Carbon One's jack adapter. As far as shipping is concerned, jacks are very heavy to begin with...it is just like shipping a good size generator/inverter, so shipping charge is premium. Caging it to save on S&H is a good option.

Who uses Speedbleeders. Do they work well?
N3FOL replied to Midnight's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good tip...when you replace brake lines. Glad I saved my OEM bleeder valves. And yes to Brake Bleeders. I think they are the best bleeders you can get for your Venture and save tons of dollars down the road. -
Has anyone tried these?
N3FOL replied to Vanantwerp's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have read advertisements from them and the tread pattern seems to be ok IMO. However, I have not read any post here where someone is using a Shinko tire on a Venture. If I only had an extra rear rim, I may be tempted to give it a try for a few thousand miles. -
+1 to skip on emptying the tank. It will for sure save you time and aggravation. The first time I did my plugs, I just yanked that tank out of the way so I can easily blow off any dirt sitting above the jugs before pulling my wires and plugs (a reminder from forum members made me remember do this part first). 1.5 hours is really not bad for a first timer. I think I also took that long to replace mine as I was taking my time and making sure that I don't miss any step along the way. Glad to hear that everthing went well. Ride Safe.

Simply order Carbon One's Jack Adapter and that is what my setup is with my J&S jack. Order the adapter with legs.

2nd Gen Valve Adjustment

I am interested on watching how this Valve Adjustmnet is done on the Venture...will keep an eye on this thread. -
My first ride on a 2007 Midnight Venture
N3FOL replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Congrats on the ride, captainjoe. As others had mentioned, get used to the bike and treat it with respect. I am 5'5" which make me 7 inches shorter than you, but our Ventures are fun to ride and I find it easier to maneuver compared to my last Kawasaki bike. Once you learn the characteristics and behavior or the bike at slow speeds, you should not have any problems. Regards. -
I recommend a Blackberry and get one of those metal sleeves that will protect the phone from any abuse. I know how it is when it comes to teenager abuse. My 17 year old daughter did not treat her Samsung touch phone the first time and it stopped responding to her...this was sent out for warranty repair and it took 3 weeks to get it back. For the meantime, she was stuck with an older legacy phone as a backup. When she got the phone back, I taught her to treat the phone with TLC or there will be no phone at all. I also showed her how I treat my Venture with TLC...this way personal possessions may last a lifetime.

Nice, KiteSquid. I've seen several H4s available on eBay. Thanks for the info.

How long have you had the bulb in the bike? Just wondering, because motorcycles have lots of vibration and want to know if these PIAA lamps will last long enough on a bike.
-
Good question, Larry. I am also curious about that. If I ever replace my passing lamps with Amber, I will have to upgrade to the Intense White Bulb (PIAA) headlamp. I think Amber lights will go well during the summer months, where there is more daylight hours. It may be a good idea to switch back to all clear lights during the winter months (I intend to keep my clear lamps for a seasonal swap).
-
Love PIAA bulbs as well as LEDs. I recently converted all my cager lights to LEDs and my Venture is getting there slowly but surely. The 4100K lumen is good. Also...it is good to know at this point that my bike takes an H4 bulb. This one is going to my wish list. Thanks.

I've seen an HD with Amber passing lamps as I was travelling on the opposite side of the highway. The amber color definitely stands out. In the past I have comtemplated about amber lamps and thought that there is nothing out there. These lamps are a good find.

Got the Ajure "bargains" installed
N3FOL replied to wes0778's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Nice install. Congrats. Those lights should make you more visible. Also, there is a thread going when a member installed Amber Lamps. I may do this option and use it for a few months and then switch back to clear lamps.... -
Those are great looking lamps! I am very interested. So looks like these lamps are 35W each. What is the wattage on the Yamaha passing lamps? Do you know? Is it just a plug and play kind of deal.

Riding with a 3/4 helmet this time of the year will definitely make your face feel cold.

1st an 2nd Genaration tell the different??
N3FOL replied to ronjolly's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I really don't care anymore at this point whether you have a 1st of 2nd gen bike. All I want is to get out and ride, but with snow still on the ground and schools continue to open 2 hours late and daytime temperatures just hovering around 35°F...I may not be able to ride until late March...if I'm lucky. Anyway...I think my 2nd Gens just can't stand to stay in the garage for so long. -
Try using a 'Left Hand' drill of the same size. Give it a lot of initial force on the first try and hopefully that broken tap will move the other way. Good Luck.

Give it a few days and it shall show up.

Just got back from our local SAMs club store. Snow is all over the place and some people are still blowing snow as we speak. The mid Atlantic states got more snow than Boston and New York so far. This season is just getting too crazy and as you all know, it is in the record books for Baltimore in terms of snow in a single season. We need a lot of warming up over here to melt all this unwanted snow.
