I contacted SHSPowersports.com and got a price for the filter of $8.00. Robert at SHSPowersports.com said that he will discount shipping down to $4.00 since it is a small part for a total of $12.00...pretty close to your cheapest find. I appreciate your input and you do have a point on getting the filter locally as opposed to having it shipped...later on today, I'll be calling my local Yamaha dealer and find out how much will a Fuel Filter cost. I will post this afternoon for the local price.

Hello Ruffy. Just curious. What type of car filter did you use on your Venture?

This is what I found online... SKU: 1FK-24560-10-00 FILTER ASSY1$9.12 # 28 under 'Fuel Tank' drawing. http://www.foxyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspx

BigBoyinMS, good info. Looks like the NAPA 3011 is possible. I guess using a car fuel filter does not really matter, if one uses it on a RSV. As long as they are the same size and the spec is comparable to the OEM filter, this is probably the way to go since I pass by NAPA every day 5 times or more a week.

I have almost 13K miles on the bike. In the not so distant future, I plan to replace my fule filter since it is cheap preventative maintenance for my bike. I've read about the NAPA 3011 fuel fitler, but not sure if this if for a 1st Gen or 2nd Gen. At any rate, I may opt for an OEM type filter or go for a 'car' fuel filter. What do you guys recommend and the best place to order online?

As mentioned before, this will all depend on how much you ride. If you can get another 2000 or more miles, I personally will keep the tire and replace it once you really use up more tread and is already unsafe to ride. The oil seal repair, I assume will be done under warranty...so save your dollars until it is really time for a rear tire. I am confident that you still have a descent amount of grease on your splines for an '08, but this condition may be addressed by your repair shop once they pull out the tire and may recommend to grease the splines. For the next few months or so before actually installing a new rear tire, use the time to learn how to grease your own splines if your are so inclined.

IMO, synthetic should not harm your engine. If your engine is bound to leak oil, it will leak oil. I've heard in this forum that if you put synthetic oil into an old motor, it will cause some oil leaks. I still have to verify this for myself if it is true or not. Not sure if this is one of your concerns. Personally, dyno oil should be just fine for a 99 and replace on scheduled interval. Ride Safe.

+1 on Paypal. I've never had any problems with Paypal. It sure it is the easy and secure way to pay for online orders and receive money even though you have to pay a small fee for the service. I really think it is still worth it.

Also glad to hear that you did not have a spill due to a flat rear tire. It is always a relief to have somebody there to pick you up on a trailer...unfortunately I don't have that kind of luxury. If that kind of situation happened to me, I am in the mercy of a Tow Truck and probably will just have them tow it home. I also have a stock size Bridgestone installed and now have a little over 1500 miles. Let us know what actually happened to your stock tire.

Yep. Mine does look similar to what you guys had described. More tread on the middle and more worn on the sides. I have almost 13K on my original front tire, so I am thinking by the end of this year I may go ahead and replace the front. If I can get close to 15K on my front tire, I am happy:Bunny:. Ride Safe.

If you can not replace your own tire, I wouldn't pay a shop more than $200 IMO. More importantly, if the shop is going to do it...at least give him a tube of Honda Moly60 for them to use on your splines. I personally want to work on my bike for a peace of mind until the next tire change and grease job. At any rate, shop around for prices in your area...you may be able to find a shop within a 25 mile radius that will charge less and potentially do a better job.

I've seen several bags on eBay for sale time to time. Hope you can find a replacement soon and get it painted (a paint job is not cheap either). For $975 for a bag from Yamaha is very expensive in my books.

Bad battery and blown fuse
N3FOL replied to gibvel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am curious as to where did you measure 13.8V with the bike running. So in this case, if 13.8V is measured, it looks to be normal. What is the 'Key Off' draw on the bike? One would normally see .33mA or a tad more. As for the Stator check, if I am not mistaken, you can or may see normal resistance...I think it can be somewhere around .2 or .3. (This can be misleading) Lead Test if there are 3 connectors can be a) 1-2, b) 1-3, c) 2-3..I think it is more important to measure Stator AC output and VAC should increase with RPM. It is also best to do a rectifier test. Not sure what color leads they are in the Venture...typically it can be a Red and Black lead. Working by memory, Forward Bias will give a reading and OFL on the Reverse Bias. Keep in mind, your battery may test good, but the bike is not fully charging the battery. In other words, your battery is facing a slow death over time and will eventually be replaced after 1.5 years or so or sooner. My 2 cents. -
EGADS! Where did my MPG go?
N3FOL replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Glad to hear that you were able to synch your carbs already. I need to do mine soon, perhaps this weekend. At any rate, please consider that you probably burned a good amount of gas while you are synching your carbs...depending on how long it took you. As mentioned before, a strong head wind may drop you mpg not drastically byt noticeable in your calculations. Now fill that baby up with gas and keep on riding. -

what kind of Oil and oil filter?
N3FOL replied to bikerjohn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Never really tried Wally World Brand, but I think I am much satisfied with the Rotella. For a $16 oil change, that is a good price. I am telling myself, why didn't I find out about Rotella soon enough. -
Pretty cool indeed! I'd like to see that on Slo-Mo:photographing:

what kind of Oil and oil filter?
N3FOL replied to bikerjohn's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just did a change oil 2 days ago on my Venture after 3K miles of travel. Instead of using Valvoline 10W40 moto, I switched to 15W40 Rotella for $10.50 a gallon. Rode in this morning to work and the bike seems to run normally with no noticeable clutch slippage. I am starting to like this oil. Ride Safe. -
Thanks for the heads up. I think I will just keep on riding my bike and time to time put a descent amount of Seafoam in the tank.

If you decide to get the J&S jack, you will still need the Carbon One adapter. Either way is a plus plus situation, because you will have a very stable jack that will allow you to move the bike anywhere in the garage while on jacks + if you order the Carbon 1 with legs you can have double support underneathe your bike for peace of mind and added stability.

Make sure you don't have 2 antiviruse software installed in your system. As suggested, uninstall any antivirus software you have then reboot then install the latest version of Norton.

Bad motorcycle crash in Phoenix, several dead
N3FOL replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
I was just thinking about this, these riders almost have no time to react. It is really very sad to hear news like this one. R.I.P. -
Yes, I heard the news this morning as well. My Prayers to all involved in the accident.
