    Thanks for the heads up and something to think about and be ready for the unexpected. Not sure how much life I have left on my headlight bulb with close to 14K miles on the bike. Usually the low beam burns out and you are not completely left without a headlight...I think the high beam may still work until you get a replacement right away. If I recall, our Venture takes 9004 bulbs.

    I like this post. Definitely very helpful. I guess it is easiest to access the light bulb housing with the forks turned all the way to the right...correct?

    This is one maintenance task I need to learn down the road. Perhaps I should attend at least a maintenance day, hopefully somebody will demonstrate how to get to these bearings. Is there a write-up somewhere in this forum?

    I just thought of something else...read in this forum that the tire valve on the front can go bad causing an unsafe situation on the highway. The tire can loose air right away. This one is in my agenda to replace once I get a new front tire.

    I am gradually learning on this end the more miles I put in on the bike. From 1st to 3rd, I don't have a problem shifting at a higher RPM with speed. On 4th, I now make sure that I am over to at least 55 and closer to 60 mph before shifting to 5th. Yes, this will all depend on the terrain...if it is a downslope...I am already on 5th at 55 mph and gaining speed. At 60 mph on 4th, I feel the rpm is really up there. Cruising down the highway, 5th gear seems to like 80 mph on my speedo (actually just going 75 mph - speedo is a little off). With that style of shifting, I am currently at 38 or 39 mpg per tank.

    I am a light guy, but don't really want to over do it on my Venture. One thing that I like to see from Vendors is a much better quality side marker that attaches to the crash bar next to the bags. Hopefully someday, Custom Dynamics will develop an LED side marker for our bike. I know there are other vendors out there, but not really interested with their product. I guess in a way once I can have a nice bright red LED on my sides, this will eventually improve my overall riding experience. By the way, I did have some whine before I changed my rear tire and greased my splines. After greasing all the splines + a new tire (currently at 2000 miles), my whine disappeared. Changing? Definitely change your oil regularly. I just switched to dino Rotella 15W40 and so far I am very happy with it. Change interval will be 6 months or 3000 miles...whichever comes first. Any other old or new ideas out there you want to share? Ride Safe.

    Once you have removed your rear tire, you will need to pull out a circlip in order for you to pull the hub pins...clean and grease the pins and splines on the tire and pumpkin splines. Then you can remove the 4 acorn nuts that holds the drive shaft in place...pull that straight out. Grease both ends of the drive shaft after cleaning and the pumpkin side where the shaft goes in. That link you posted has the part number listed in the thread for the oil seal. Your local Yamaha dealer can get it for you. Keep on asking questions in this thread. This is how I gained confidence before I started tearing things apart. Regards.

    I like that description of a 'Chirp'. It really helps give an early warning to birds out there. Everytime I approach a flock of birds on the ground, they start to fly away as I approach the vicinity. On a deer, I don't trust the 'chirp' to save my life. Ride Safe.

    How much is a can of Pledge nowadays? I buy a 16oz Kawi Wipe Down Can for Cleaning and Polishing for $5.00 dollars a can. Analyzing it more , Pledge can definitely make it easier to dust surfaces if it has already been treated with Pledge.

    Good thought. That is true, the charging system may have a problem and is not properly charging the battery each and every ride. Since your old battery has been in use for over 5 years, there is no doubt in my mind that it is just your battery that needed to be replaced. Ride Safe.

    Hello Chinto. If you haven't hooked your Argus Battery Bug on your battery, did your battery give you any indication (as you crank the starter) that the battery is nearing its useful like?

    Glad to hear you have replaced your Fuel Filter with success, LeLand. You beat me to it. I had planned to replace my filter this weekend, but I ended up cutting the grass, pulling weeds, car wash, bike 'wipe' , and family errands. Next thing I know, it is already 8 pm Sunday night....I really need to get to it tonight for the weather is turning out to be nice for the next 5 days. Safe.

    Great info, Carbon One. Now we have a lot of choices now. Looks like we can have: a) OEM Filter b) Purolator F10024 c) Wix 33027 d) FF3330 (G478) - not sure of the brand you got (Purolator?) I am now very curious on the FF3330 filter. After doing house chores today, it may be a good time to swing by my local Advance Auto.

    +1 on any major autoparts store that carry the Purolator brand. Advance Auto particularly carry Purolator filters. I just received my fuel filter yesterday and is made of white plastic on the outside. Installation will be this Saturday and I should remember to follow that 'Arrow' direction on the fuel filter in relation to the flow of gasoline.

    Take off the left and center cover behing the battery and you will see the fuel pump. Next to the fuel pump to its right (if I am not mistaken) is the fuel filter. For you at 15K miles, I say go ahead and replace that with the F100 24 Purolator Fuel Filter for around $4 dollars. FWIW, I change the fuel filter on my tractor every year no matter how much I use it. I plant to replace my Venture's fuel filter every year as well.

    If they both went out at the same time, it is most likely to be a fuse or fuse holder problem, IMO. Almost always, if it was dealer installed, the fuse is installed the fairing...remove the fairing...jiggle the wires around the fuse holder and it may come back to life (assuming the fuse is not blown). Your best bet is to replace the fuse holder once you have identified the problem with a better one. I had this same problem before and it turned out to be the fuse holder...remember to anchor the fuse holder securely inside the fairing with tie cords to prevent problems in the future. Also as mentioned previously, do check the wires coming from the lamp as it exits towards the fairing. Good Luck.

    Ruffy, Thanks for the part number and took note of it. The next time I replace my fuel filter, Purolator will be my next choice. I just placed my order yesterday at SHSPowersports for an OEM fuel filter for $8.78 + $4.00 S&H, total of $12.78 shipped in front of my door. My local Yamaha dealer 16 miles away has the same OEM fuel filter for $15.05 a filter. So it was a no brainer for me to order the part online and have it shipped. A few minutes ago, I inquired on the Purolator F100 24 that you posted as a replacement and our local Advance Auto sells the filter for $4.00 each...much better price.
