Glad to hear you guys are doing ok on cold weather riding. I haven't been on my bike for about 5 days now. Flurries + Wind + Temps in the single digits is not my cup of tea even with Gerbings - road surface is not safe for Motos. Snow in the forecast this afternoon near the MD/PA line, so next week may be my next best chance to ride. - Today, it is time to plug in the battery conditioner. :cold:Ride Safe.

Cheated out of another perfectly good snow storm.
N3FOL replied to Flyinfool's topic in Watering Hole
Snow is a hindrance to riding. If I don't get the chance to use my snow blower this winter season, I will not be disappointed at all. Unfortunately, they are calling for about an inch of snow tomorrow in our area. I hope the snow doesn't stick around too long. -
Welcome back to the work force. Glad to hear that you are doing much better.

Yep, the initial prices posted are very cheap. The price alone can be just the tire itself. Mount and balance + labor looks like has not been taken into account. If the price is accurate, I say go for it before they change their mind.

Which LED Signal LIghts?
N3FOL replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hello Sylvester. Yes, I have read about the J&P Cycles LED reflector. I even have their link bookmarked in my computer. Still not sure if I really want their product or not. But please tell me (question), is the J&P Cycle side marker also noticeable during the day? Is it bright enough under the sun or only at night? What I like about custom dynamics LEDs is that they really are pretty bright even during the day. IMO, their products are of good quality. I hope custom dynamics develop something similar to what J&P has. -
Which LED Signal LIghts?

You have a point there, RandyR. But think about this...how often would someone be using his flashers? The only time one will use his turn signal is to make a turn or place it on four way flashing hazard state. 98% to 99% of the time, it is mostly riding on a straightline. So I think there is still a good advantage of having LEDs in terms of power saved. BTW 'Seaking', CD has the 'New Slimline Metric Signal Stabilizer' which produces no hear and is a 'No Load' type - similar to what I have. Most of my LEDs are running lights, 2 in front (amber); 3 in the rear + Yamaha spoiler; my rear signals are not running lights but are amber LEDs. They are pricey, but I think it does illuminate the front and rear better than reg. bulbs and looks cool too. -

Glad to help and I hope you will like those LEDs from Custom Dynamics. BTW when you get a chance, try to inquire about LED side markers for our RSV that will take the place of the reflector next to the bags. They may have developed one for our application. -
How hard is wheel removal?
N3FOL replied to shikano53's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
As mentioned earlier, lots of previous topics are available in this forum for your searching. Read about the job in detail and prep all your materials...ie: tools, grease, rags, etc. When it comes to working on my RSV, I always wanted to have a stable lift when the bike if off the ground with the wheels off. Because of this, I got myself the popular Carbon One adapter w/ legs and a J&S jack. I am a DIY...you can do this. Members are always available here for help. Good Luck. -

+100 on Custom Dynamics products. Their LEDs are brighter than stock bulbs. I have LEDs all the way around my RSV including on my HD auxilliary housing. You can't go wrong with these products. Very easy to install. -
On my RSV, my speedo is almost 5 miles lower than the GPS. So if I really want to run at 75 mph, I simply hit 80 on the speedo and I am almost guaranteed that is my speed. BTW, 75 mph is the sweet spot on my bike. Nice and smooth on the highway.

I'm curious about something
N3FOL replied to shikano53's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've never owned a first Gen and simply can not comment about its riding characteristics. I love my 2nd Gen and will probably never look back, but definitely looking forward to what the next Gen of Venture Yamaha has to offer. -

Hit a hawk-shattered lower fairing
N3FOL replied to Sandbagger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sorry to hear about your mishap with a Hawk. As for the damage, perhaps your insurance can cover that part. The downside, your premium for next year may increase. I also had that experience of a bird hit while riding. The small bird hit me on my left wrist and came tumbling down on the road - dead. At first I didn't know what tapped my wrist until I looked on my side mirrors. -
My recommendation, Rotella T5 Synthetic Blend 10W30 for cold temperature riding.

Looking for some feedback
N3FOL replied to ranger391's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Look for the 'Leo' style passenger footpegs. You can never go wrong with a pair. -
Ate moderately yesterday, but tasted all the food on the table. Will be spending moderately this weekend, but will stay away from the Malls today - Black Friday. I'm bleeding my clutch fluid this afternoon.

Rotella T5 10W30 Synthetic Oil
N3FOL replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hello Jactana. FWIW, Rotella T5 has JASO certification. As far as oil is concerned, it is all about personal preference. A lot of Venture owners recommend Rotella and so far I've used about 3 gallons of Rotella 15W40 over the summer and Fall. T5 to me is a great oil and does not cause any clutch slippage on my Venture. Let us know what kind of oil you end up using. Thanks for your input. Ride Safe. -
Very nice! Congrats on the stand. I am sure this has been asked before, but I really don't know if you were able to keep your sidestand as well ... now that you have the stand under the bike. My co-worker is very interested on putting a centerstand on his RSTD.

Rotella T5 10W30 Synthetic Oil
N3FOL replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Considering that it is going to Thanksgiving next week, I just can't imagine that 2010 has just flew by so fast. December will go just as fast. A little bit of warming trend would be nice. Lately, I've been putting on my Gerbings to keep me comfy:cold:. As far as rain and snow is concerned in your area (Seaking), there is really nothing you can do and wait it out until the pavement dries up. :sleigh: is just around the corner and season is just 4 months away. -

Just to and from work...I think I'll put more miles on my bike all weekend long and through next week. That reminds me, on my way home I will have to pickup another jug of T5 while it is on sale.
