My trailer, which was built by a friend in 1983 and given to me in the fall of '05, has 8" wheels. After pulling it over 5600 miles this summer I have decided I want to put 12" wheels on it. I'm sure it will look better and I think it will pull better. I've already tried a friends 12" wheel to see if it fits and it bolts right up and fills the fender nicely. So if the clearance is there you can very possibly move up to bigger wheels. I think most of these trailers are either 4 or 5 lug wheels. I don't have one yet, but I'm a firm believer in swivel hitches. You would have to add that to a Harbor Freight trailer and they're $70 or more. I'm just waiting til I can afford wheels and a swivel hitch!

My thoughts and prayers are with you Allen. May the Peace and Love of the Lord settle gently into your heart. And know that Debbie lives eternally in your heart and love.

NICE!!! You need to bring that to Vogel this year so we can check it out! :~>

Usually, a restaurant that uses a lot of grease has a separate dumpster for the grease and it is generally located near the trash dumpster. That is something to watch out for. Thanks for the heads up, Rick!

Guess we'd need seat belts then.

HMMMMMMMMM...............Helium in the tires..........Wouldn't that make these Ventures lighter and easier to handle at parking lot speeds?

2nd Gens don't go around tight corners!

I can understand nitrogen in car tires as it helps keep them running cool, but isn't that just the opposite of what we want on MC tires? Warm tires stick better than cold tires. That's why racers use electric cozies on their tires between races! And can you run it with the Ride-On tire stuff? Maybe TireGooMan will step in here and give us his .

:wow:If we follow Monsta's link to chicken strips, the last sentences say "Chicken strips" can also be caused by commuting, lack of "twisties" riding, doing numerous/repeated burnouts or, to a lesser extent, wheelies. They may be seen as evidence of "squidly" behaviour." From what I've seen and as far as I can tell, there's not a dad-blamed, gul-durned thing wrong with "Squidley" behavior!!!

I had somewhat the same thing happen on my 86. I, on my 86, was running with a friend, on his Aprilla Futura, at high speed (we won't talk about how high!) across Kansas in 100 degree heat when we both lost our clutches. We limped into a service station and bought brake fluid. We did our best to get the old fluid out of each master using paper towels and then refilled with the new fluid. That got us back on our way. The old fluid had broken down with the high heat of the combined high temperature and high rpms. When I got back home I switched out the fluid for Valvoline SynPower. It's good for replacing DOT 3 or 4 and it made a world of difference. I can even ride with muffinman and wingman now! I liked it so much that I actually did all the brake fluids, as well as the clutch and brakes on my Intruder. Now all I need to do is do lapryor's clutch fix because it slips if you really nail the throttle. I also want to put SS lines on but that takes even if you get them from Rick at Buckeye.com. That might be an idea for you if fluid change doesn't help.

You might try keeping the seat, Paul, and swapping the bike for a 1st Gen. Nah, wait, sorry, bad advise........... no one would trade their 1st Gen!

Yeah, Rick, that was in the first couple of months that I owned my 1st Gen. We were up at Deals Gap and he was on an early 80s police Guzzi (nice bike!) and said that he bought an 86 VR new. I now know that if he knew anything, he would still own that 86!!! I plan to do the steering head bearings, solid motor mounts, fork brace, springs and ss lines in that order, and as permits! I enjoy riding easy, but there are times when I like to ride hard and I know this bikes potential!

As I understand it, the Avon Venom was the first motorcycle tire to be completely computer designed. The tread on the front that cuts all the way across the tire is there to keep the center cut from tracking grooves in the road. When I first put them on a bike I tried to make it follow grooves and it just flat wouldn't do it! I was at a track day at Barber race track one day talking to the tire supplier to the racers and asked him what he thought of the Venom. He said that racers here don't use them as much, but in areas where there is more rain that is the main tire on tracks. That said a lot to me. I have had the Venom on three different bikes and each one handled better with the Avon, whether on dry, wet, rain grooved, metal grooved or Tar Snake laden roads. My 86 had Venoms on it when I got it and I switched to EIII rear and D404 front (they don't make an EIII front) because I was told that the Venom was too much tire for the 1st Gen. I now know that the issues I have, probably will be cured with a fork brace and new stearing head bearing. I will be going back to the Venom on my next change. I don't work for Avon; that's just my + + worth!

I don't know if 83 will fit or not but here is one getting parted out on EBay and it has a rack: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/yamaha-xvz12-venture-royal-1984-Signal-more-parts_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35594QQihZ017QQitemZ270049389040QQrdZ1

I figured you just missed that line, Brad. And you're right, over $150 for a box with a crack and four holes in it ?!?!? :rotf:

I looked for about a year and a half for one for my '86. I finaly found one at a local Honda/Yami dealer that they said someone had ordered for an 1800 wing a didn't pick up. I like the look (it's a little smaller than what I've seen on most 1st Gens) and they let me have it for $75, but I don't think it's a stock wing rack. Most of the wing racks I have seen are of flat stock and mine has round rails. My bike never had a rack and I had to drill the mounting holes, so if you already have the holes it may not fit anyway. But you might try a dealer. I just looked at the EBay link that Squidley posted and in the description they say that the rack is not included and they are selling it seperately. Here are acouple of pics of my bike. I'll try and get a better picture of the rack later and add it.

I think most mc utility trailers are only 150 lbs or so empty. (My homemade wooden trailer is only 160#) So I think you'd be hard pressed to get one up to 500 pounds. Maybe with a load of firewood or something. I pulled mine full of camping gear and 2 coolers (1 inside, 1 on the tounge) for 5671 miles this summer. The only thing I had to do was increase the tounge weight for stability. Since I couldn't really do any better with repacking the trailer, I pulled a 20 lb rock out of a creek in Colorado and tied it on the tounge! That settled it down. Other than that, you just have to ride like you are invisible and have no brakes! And no, I wasn't at that Restaraunt in NM for the margaritas (it was too early). But I did have some excelent Huevos Rancheros with green chile sauce! And JJ, I'm glad to hear you got a new bike. You gotta get back on that horse! What did you get? I hope you were smart and bought a 1st Gen!
