O.K................Somebody has say it! I Dropped My Bike At Vogel!!! I was parked across from Dragonrider's cabin and any of you that parked there know that to leave that area, you have to go up a small incline and immediately turn on to the road. In my case it was to the left to head to my campsite. I started the bike, puy it into 1st; I accelerated the engine, slid the clutch out, and leaned just a little to my left to start the turn. Then the bike jumped into Neutral! Since I was already leaned over for the turn and now had no thrust, all I could do was gently lay it on it's side. Now, the reason that I bring this up is to relate something that we do at another club that I ride with: 1. If you drop your bike, you put $5 in the kitty. 2. If you crash your bike, you put in $10. The difference is 5mph; under 5 it's a drop, over 5mph, it's a crash! I think that this is something that might be a fun way to help out with the expenses/prize kitty for VentureRider.org! I just hit the "Donations" button on the top right side of the VR.O Toolbar, and donated $5.00 to the site. So anybody else want to admit to dropping thier bike this weekend? I know that I'm not the only one!

Hey Condor! Chu gots PayPal, Dude!!! -
My prayers are also with Benjamin's family. I know that it's not much relief, but it is like I tell my family and friends: If I die in an accident on my motorcycle; you will, at least, know that I died happy.

Clutch Bleeding
86er replied to 93 venture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I believe it is behind the chrome cover, Mike. I have switched my fluid to Valvoline Synthetic (compatible w/DOT 3 &4) and love it. no problems with hot fluid/soft clutch anymore. -
Keep up the good work!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I love PB Blaster, (AKA: Panther Piss) but I think Sea Foam's: Deep Creep is even better at eating through the rust. This stuff is as amazing in it's realm as Sea Foam is in it's own. -
I Need To Know......
86er replied to NLAlston's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It's a little strange and spooky at first, but you can pull the bike upright (off the sidestand) while kneeling beside it. Get it balanced and then, using a flashlight, look at the sight glass. -
A friend of mine has a setup similar to this, only in smoke Plexiglas, on his HD Roadglide and he swears by them. I don't know how easily they might adapt. But hey, a 2nd gen wants to be an HD anyway, right!?!?!

Nice!!! It looks like a great ride. But Y'all REALLY need to make it to Vogel this year!

I was there last September on the 86 but it snowed the night before and the road was closed half way up (at about 9 miles as I recall), so I rode up that far with friends that had a rental car. But I did do the whole thing a few years ago driving a 40 passenger tour bus. Now THAT was an experience, especially coming back down!

headlight warning light
86er replied to nyjerry's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That happened to a friend of mine on his 83 but his voltage at the headlight had dropped to about 5 volts! We tried replacing the reserve lighting unit to no avail. We fixed it by hooking up two relays to take power straight from the battery and pulled the dash bulb out. That was before I found this site and learned about bad solder joints in the main board. He also had trouble with the gas gauge reading erroneously. I did the re-solder just before he sold it and that took care of most issues. Although we left the relays in it. Re-soldering is fairly easy, especially if you have good magnifying lenses. -
Brenda! So, Y'all comin to Vogel?!?

Very Nice Job, Arnold! My hat's off to you! But I guess I gotta be politically incorrect and ask: Why the wheelchair? I've seen wheelchairs on trikes, and even one bike with a sidecar that was for a wheelchair with the handlebars and controls in front of the wheelchair, but never on a two wheeler.

How the heck does the seat come off?
86er replied to Dexx's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dexx, if it's the same as the 86, which I believe it is, there is a 12mm bolt on each side under the passenger area. Remove those and the seat will lift up and back. As I recall you need to take the saddlebag lids off to get to those bolts, but not the plastic trim. -
Joe, that thread that Rocket referred you to was about the rear rotor on my 86. I'm pretty sure it was the stock rotor, as I am the second owner on this bike. I could actually reach under the saddlebag and grab the rotor and "rattle" it. It would move back and forth, and it would go "CLACK" when I stepped on the pedal. I replaced the rotor with one that I got off of eBay and it has been fine since. Good Luck

'Get My Bike back Tomorrow.
86er replied to NLAlston's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well, Nathan, you've got to admit that: "Your bike is ready but we close in ten minutes" is a lot better than "It'll be ready mannana"! Good luck and I hope it really is right. And keep that front wheel on the ground, at least until you have good feel for the bike! Now you just need to get ready for the Vogel Rally next month! -
He's a member (hessdeals) here but doesn't post much. I've bought a few things from him and they came fairly quickly. No need to send Guido in just yet!

I hope Shawn isn't reselling the one I won! I sent him an email saying I was watching a few more of his things and will pay for all at once. Maybe he's just using the same picture. For This One
