CLutch upgrade options
86er replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I replaced mine with the stock pressure plates and lightly sanded the steels at around 90K miles. Talking to Rick at Buckeye Performance convinced me to add a second stock spring on top of the original spring. This gave it about the same pull feel as a cable clutch. I now have over 120K and it feels as strong as day one. Buckeye is a great place to get the clutch as Rick is a member here and gives us a discount. He also is a wealth of info and is very familiar with both generations of Ventures, the fast ones and the 2nd gens! You can click on the name to go to that site. -
Billy Lane did one or two "hubless" rear wheels. It's actually more like a big open hub. The drive chain goes around the outside of it.

Let's see now..............The corrupt politicians in Illinois are telling the governor that he is too corrupt? Isn't that a little like Willie Nelson telling you you're smoking too much pot!?! Or Rush Limbaugh saying to cut back on the Oxycontin!

The GPS is for after YOU get lost, not after IT gets lost, Don!!! You and Eileen have a Happy Anniversary and a Happy New Year, Bubba!!! See ya when you get back!

I have the Kuryakin Flame grips on my 1st gen. They are made for 1" bars. I used cloth electrical tape and grip glue on the left grip to build it up. On the right I used a piece of PVC pipe on which I ground the outside to fit in the grip. I love them but they are a little thinner than the ISO grips that I have on my 1400 Intruder.

Glad Y'all are ok, Brad. Sucks about the car. You gotta cut Swifty some slack. The Browner is probably in the flat and a cot is all he has left to offer!!!

I'll keep you in my prayers, Jim, along with all our troops. Keep you eye out for Clay18 while you're there. Of course you'll have to check out a lot of Villas!!!

A friend of mine bought basically that same system from Harley for his RoadGlide and since it had the HD name on it, he paid $120 for it. It works great though and you can take it with you if you move. I just got the little Gennie key fob remote and used velcro to hook it on left side of the dash cowl, out of the weather. I like that one because it will operate 3 different doors.

I'm gonna try to Slide out of work as early as I can that day and head up there. I'm getting tired of missing these things! And it'll be great to see everybody. Are you gonna post your address, Steve? Actually that may not be a good idea, posting your addy on the web. Send me a pm with it, if you don't mind, so I can plug it in my GPS. Hey, Norm, it'll be good to see you again and I think you'll really enjoy this group. BTW, as I recall, I warned you that this site is addictive.

I'm behind Swifty on this one, (something that rarely happens! ) I don't think there are many, if any 2nd gens that could keep up with a well ridden 1st gen. I don't think they have the lean angle. Although I've seen Double D do some respectable keep up at Vogel! And we all know how Dave likes to lean the Browner!!! http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/48B5ECCA00031453000044B922165279-1.jpg "Ask the last cocky "sofa pilot" who thought he would even things out for me on HIS local roads." ???

Dan, I understand! Back in '82, I had a Thou-Kaw (1000 Kawasaki LTD). Sweet bike and FAST! But at speeds over 100 it would pick up a front end wobble. (I now realize it was probably a steering head bearing issue.) I was staying with a friend in Carbondale Colorado, riding to Glenwood Springs. We had been making that run every morning for a week. The last day, I remember putting on my helmet (the 1st time I wore it all week) and starting out. The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital with a concusion, a dislocated shoulder and 100 stitches in my face! To this day, I still don't remember any more than that. What I later pieced together is that we were running about 110mph (by my friends speedo) and we passed a car, on a two lane, in a left hand sweeper. I think the wobble probably started as I pulled back into my lane (making the curve even tighter). I went off the road, down a 15' embankment, past a boulder the size of a VW Bug and ended up in a huge bush sans the bike! (I never did find the headlight!) A few months later, I asked a friend if I could ride his bike (mine was totaled, no eBay!). He said that even his roommate didn't ride his bike. I said I understood, but wanted to get back on the horse. He relented and said OK. I pulled out of his drive and turned right. It felt great! (Now, remember, the crash was in a left hander!) I went to the corner and turned right again. Hey! I was back!! No Problems! I went to the next corner, turned left and thought my heart was going to EXPLODE, it was pounding so hard! I rode a few times in the years after that but didn't get another bike untill Y2K. And for the next few years I had to work on left handers. It took three or four years before I could really push thru' a left hander. My STUPID crash in June this year was in a lefty, but it didn't really affect me this time. Maybe, like you say, because I know what I did wrong and remember all of that crash. Sorry this was so long, but my message is: Hang in there and it will all be good again!!!

I do this as well, as moving a little faster than the flow keeps me moving through the cage's blind spots, not stuck in them. As I understand it, all of this is going on because they can't selectively stop "black bike week" which happens the week after bike week.

Of course, Lew, you never know how far.......... or how close that gift could be!

I have the Stebel mounted on top of the front cylinders (with zip-ties) and it works fine. I just used the wiring from the stock horns. They don't seem to draw enough more power to make a difference. But then, I'm not on them more than a few seconds.....maybe ten seconds in a rage!!! The thought of adding another is set interesting though!!! I may have to work on that! I need to stop by Harbor anyway.

Gee, Margaret, I thought that was the Muffin's blond pulling that hack!!! Wouldn't surprise me at all! Hey, Greg, that rig looks like someone with a VW fetish made it! Seriously though, I like it! But aren't you parked on the wrong side of the road??? -
I did a search on R6 seat cowl and this is what I came upe with (70 items).
