I must be in the minority here. I have never paid even the least bit of attention to how many miles I've ridden on a bike. I only pay attention to the trip meter if I'm getting low on gas and not sure where the next station is. I would even have to go out and look to see how many miles my bike has on it now. I just change oil and filter every spring and tires when they wear out. In fact, I have to really stop and think what all bikes I've had since 1965.......and the older I get the harder it gets to remember....

I was talking to my daughter, who lives in Russellville (Ark) yesterday afternoon when i could hear sirens start to go off in the background at her place. Then I could hear her weather alert say "This is a tornado warning." She said there was a tornado on the ground about 2 miles from her house. I told her to get off the phone and seek shelter. I found out later that it missed her but got a town named Adkins next to hers where it killed several people. 14 I think, but not sure. Glad it missed her, but sad that it got others. Here at my place near Paris Ark we got very strong winds, tremendous lightning, hail and torrential downpours, but came out without any damage.

"You should probably know the state laws that may allow for exceptions for police regarding some traffic laws before bad mouthing them. Just saying." Wasn't bad mouthing the cops at all, actually. I was saying that this is what it sounds like the politician was saying in a round-a-bout way.

“They're not constantly riding side by side all the time. It’s just a short period of time before they hit the next intersection,” Carrico said. “And they're conscious of the fact that it’s dangerous, and they've had a whole lot more training than most people that get on the highway with a motorcycle.” translation: "They're cops, they don't have to obey the law!"

Well I have to say that my local law officers do an outstanding job. About maybe 3 years ago we had a bunch of varmints move in to our neighborhood. They bought a few acres across the road and about 2 or 3 hundred yards to the west, and brought in a brand new double wide. Not long after they settled in, I noticed that they sure had a lot of friends coming and going at all hours of the day and night. (ok, I'm a little slow....but who would have thought..). Yep mighty friendly folks they were. Loud, though. loud music, loud parties, loud fights. Anyway, it wasn't long before a caravan of squad cars came past the house and raided the place. At last, even dumb little hillbilly me got it. Them ain't nice folks are they? So it wasn't long before the law was out there on a regular basis and was always hauling someone off. During this time was when I had a little problem with one of them trying to steal gas from me. But I've already told that story before. Anyway, it seemed like every month a new cast of characters occupied the house, and every month the deputies came out and hauled them out. I have a couple of friends on the sheriff's department and they both said that they were going to keep after that house every chance they had until they had enough people with enough charges and convictions that they could close that house up for good. and sure enough, they stayed after that place like a chicken on a june bug until every stinkin varmint and all their friends were in the penitentiary. some with convictions that will keep them there for a very long time. (kidnapping even). Well, that nice new double wide was vacant for a while and when I saw someone moving into it a few months ago I thought Rats! someone beat the rap. But no......a few days after moving in the man came down and introduced himself, and although I had never met him personally, I knew of him and knew about his family, which are well respected folks and even discovered that his wife and my daughter work together. Since then we have visited several times and I found out that he was renting the house from the owners mother who is taking care of the place until her son gets out of the big house. Don't know how that's going to work out though.....time doofus gets out of the slammer. Ma will either be long dead, or a hundred and twenty years old....................

Hey Popeye, if you are talking about Oz Powersports in Ottowa KS, the web address is ozpowersports.com

OK, I found it. It's the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham. You can probably do a google search to find out the particulars.
-
Well, there is a motorcycle museum in Alabama. I don't remember the name right now, and I'm not sure if it's in Birmingham or Montgomery. Birmingham I think. I'm sure Eck will know. I haven't been there but I've seen photos of the place and it was really something. 3 stories I think. If I can scratch around and find the name I'll post it.

I'm with Popeye on this. Police can't protect you. They would have to be there already in order to stop it. Mostly what they can do is investigate the crime after it has happened and hopefully apprehend those responsible. Little comfort in the case of murder. I have a CCW and always carry a snub nose .357 when away from home. I also have a firing range here on my property, so I can get all the practice I want. A state trooper told me that he always relaxes when he makes a traffic stop and find out the person has a permit because he knows they have been checked out from elbow to toenail and is a solid law abiding citizen. At least in a state that has concealed carry the criminals have no idea who is armed or more importantly not armed. You'd be surprised at the number of Grandmas around here that carry and know how to shoot. Also, living out in the country is no longer as safe as it once was. I live out in the country, 2 miles down a dirt road, and the only time I have ever had to use my gun was at my front gate late one night when I caught a known drug maker from the area trying to steal gas from my truck. I held him at gunpoint until the deputies got there and then laid the gun on the hood of the truck until they left. They told me I had done the right thing as this guy was known to be violent. So....to make a short post long...I carry while riding or anytime I am away from home.

I haven't painted a vehicle since '95, so things have probably changed , but the best paint job at the time as far as being tough and long lasting, that I know of, was a double-wet coat of dupont epoxy primer, followed by 2 or 3 coats of Imron. Shines real well and very durable. I would not personally put metallics in the paint, but thats just me. You get the paint put on right and it will look good without them.

"What's the big cylinder on the opposite side of the building? Not LPG for heating etc?" Yeah, that's a propane tank. Here in Arkansas they tell you it needs to be 10 feet or further from the house. I put mine about a hundred feet away a laid pipe to the house. I see them all the time right up close to the house and just cringe. Sometimes the local news will show a house fire in progress and there will always be one fireman whose only apparent job is to keep a hose spraying the tank. As a side note, a fireman once told me (and I don't know how true it is) that if they find out you have a lot of ammunition in the house they would just stand way off and watch it burn. But I've never heard of that actually happening.

I like the looks of the touring version of that bike. Of course I much prefer the looks of the new "classic" design bikes from Triumph. They look so much like the '60s bikes, and I liked the looks of them the first time around. HOWEVER, I purely hope they have improved the mechanics and especially the electrics on the new ones. I rode them in the 60s (along with others) and I remember why I quit riding them. They shook worse than a Harley, and leaked about the same and were frequently shedding small parts along the highway. And the electrical system was so bad that I was afraid to ride at night for fear of losing some or all of the lighting. But, if they have addressed those issues, then I wouldn't mind having a new one myself.

I should get an award honoring the level of stupidity I have managed to attain without the help or influence from any outside source. I went out to the shop this morning to finish putting plugs and plug wires on my bike. (I had done one yesterday.) I was hoping to get it done in time to go to afternoon church service at 2:00. So anyway, having removed the side covers, top cover, battery, tie wiring back all the wires that were in the way, the battery box, the 2 little chrome covers behind the horns, and the horns and having wrestled the solenoid away from the battery box, I changed the plugs and plug wires. Put everything back together and hit the starter. Nothing....nothing. OK, what did I not hook up. So I take it all apart again and retrace my steps to see if I had left something off. Everything looked fine. Got the multimeter and checked everywhere I could think and could see that I had voltage on the battery side of the solenoid but not the starter side. I checked the ignition wires where they go together prior to the solenoid and discovered I was getting .5v when I hit the button. Sumpin serious wrong here. I cleaned all the connections I could find and put it back together. Nothing....nothing. OK, took it back apart and checked all the fuses, more wires, everything I could think of. (again) After a couple of hours I said the H*** with this. I buttoned everything back up and decided to call it quits for the time being. I was standing there staring vacantly at the bike and thinking nasty thoughts about this bike and was starting to dredge up visions of myself throwing gas on it, followed by a match, and then riding off on a new bike, when all of a sudden my vision snapped into focus on the kill switch. WHAT?? WHAT!! I don't believe this!! I walked over, flipped the switch and hit the starter and it fired right up!!! Since I never use the kill switch, I must have accidentally hit it while I was working. How could I have not checked that to begin with? How stupid!! and before you say: "that ain't so bad, could of happened to anyone." I will tell you that this isn't the first time this has happened to me. I should KNOW to check it first.....man....I need a drink!!!

That little thang in his hand a gun? humph, why if he was to ever shoot me with that and i found out about it, I'd have to spank him....

Long time "Cycle World" reader. Last year I decided to add "Motorcyclist" to my list, but when the subscriptions on both run out I plan not to renew. I've noticed (like a previous poster noted) that over the years it has steadily shifted toward heavily favoring sport bikes above all else. And they seem to have developed a fixation on Ducati to the point that it is regarded as almost holy. It's got to the point that when I get it in the mail I just thumb through it to see if there is anything non-sport bike related I may be interested in. If not......straight to the trash. Problem with Motorcyclist is that if you read this month's Cycle World, then you've read Motorcyclist. Same features, same road tests, same bikes, same gear, same everything. They must all sit together in the same cubicles. So....maybe I'll give Roadrunner a try. There was another one that looked interesting, but I can't think of the name of it right now.

Well, since liquid reacts to gravity the way it does, i would say that it has either dripped straight down, or run along something first and then dripped. were it me, i would take a clean dry paper towel and poke around above the leak somewhere and see if i could get some on it. wherever you pick up a little would be the place to start looking. if you get some off the top of the cylinder then see if you can trace it back. may be a hose needs tightening. don't look like it amounts to much. might even start up the engine and let it warm up and see if it gets worse. i had a honda gl650 that had a little tiny leak when cold and i couldn't trace it so i started it up and when it got warm it started spurting out of a pinhole in the upper radiator hose. then i knew.

"for running the light. stupid ,good thing politicians are stupid ,or we would really be in deep doo doo." Will Rogers once said: "Be glad you don't get all the government you pay for."

Oh, I'm sure he saw the flashes, too. Was probably banging his fist on the steering wheel and kicking himself. Those cameras are sure getting common now. Maybe they will help make the intersections safer. A friend of mine was mailed a ticket one time for blowing a light. His driving record was pretty shaky, but his wifes was good, so he wrote them back and said it was his wife driving, thinking that maybe his insurance wouldn't go up and his employment down (he drove a route) if she took the rap. They mailed him back a photo that he showed me. Very clear shot of him right through the windshield. And he had a beard, too. No way to argue that....................

My biggest gripe with drop lights is that no matter how I hang one, it always spins around and shines right into my eyes. (Usually right after I get my hands way down into what ever it is I'm working on and can't let go to try and right it). And if you want a little excitement, try laying on your back, under a sink with the light right next to your face facing up, and let just one drop of cold water drip on the bulb. Try not to bump your head too hard..........

"...just before dawn..." Before dawn??? Before dawn!!?? Why I couldn't get my kids OR grandkids out of bed before dawn if it was to see the second coming, much less look at a planet............
