  1. Glad you figured it out. 2nd Generation Ventures would be the better forum here to ask your question. That forum is venture specific questions and there are more Venture owners than tour deluxe owners and that forum consequently gets more traffic and you'll probably get a quicker response to boot. 2. Congratulations! I have the 06 midnight as well. I love it. The midnights are great looking bikes. Gets a lot of compliments. Takes a little time to get all the chrome clean though. Enjoy the ride! rstddog
  3. I found a Tour Deluxe backrest on craigslist for a $100 and I plan on modifying that one to take a trunk. So far I have found everything on craigslist. Just takes a little time. There is thread here by a guy who was making a tour bracket that connects to the stock quick connect. Not sure what happened, I think he had an injury set him back on manufacturing. The thread is probably only one or two pages back I'll look and see if I can find it. A Search on tour pak and trunk will find most of threads on this subject. On edit: I see you found the one guy who makes them from the backrest mount. Here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35033 is the guy that was making a custom mount. rstddog
  4. For anyone who checked out the event flyer links above when they were two small to read, they are fixed now. Free Space for Vendors and Organizations. I hope some of you can make it. Thanks, Derrek
  5. Gratuitous Bump for the weekend. If you don't know what the Special Operations Warrior Foundation is or what they do, Briefly, they provided college educations to the children of fallen special forces soldiers from all branches of service as well as counseling services for the children and surviving spouse. There is complete information in the link(s) above. Thanks! Derrek rstddog

I have one spare bedroom and lots of floor space if anyone wants to overnight it. Must love dogs. I live about 25 minutes from there. There are also some hotels nearby on Daniels Parkway. Thanks Derrek rstddog
  7. Here are pictures of the Bak Up Driver Backrest on my bike. The Bracket is Stainless Steel. I bought mine used, but i think there is supposed to be a rubber bumper or something on the bottom of the bracket (I can see a circle mark on the bottom) so that the metal bracket doesn't contact the top of the fender. Fits nice, fully adjustable, folds forward. Vinyl grain and color match is perfect. ddog
  8. Well I'm trying but for some reason my computer (HP Pavilion laptop) internal card reader won't open my SD card. It loads it and it shows up in My Computer, but when I double click it it says it want s to format the disk in drive E (the SD card). When I say OK it waits a bit and says the disk cannot be formatted. Properties says there is nothing on it, I plug it back in my phone and all the photos are still there. I'll dig out my camera and the USB cable and see if I can get it to work that way. ddog
  9. Jfoster, Thanks for the response. I have the Bakup backrest and it is as easy as it looks. It bolts on with the two bolts that connect between the frame (under the seat) and the fender. Just have to pry with a screw driver a bit to open it up wide enought to slip in between the frame and the round threaded boss. No drilling required for me. Looks like there might be a little rubber bumper missing that goes between the metal bracket and the fender, but its not touching at the moment. May be someone who has a new Bakup can comment. Has about 1/2 inch of clearance or so right now. Haven't been for a ride yet, but have had a sit on in it in the garage and feels good. I'm 6'1 and seems to be fine. Its fully adjustable, height and in and out. ddog
  10. I just bought one used. No instructions. Is it as simple as it looks? Just remove the two bolts under the driver seat and slip between the main frame bracket and the spacers fromthe fender and bolt back in? I haven't tried it yet but wondered if there was enough slop to allow for the thickness of the bracket? Did it come with any hardware or just uses the existing hardware? Thanks, Derrek
  11. Bumping this up to the front. Going to put in for the time off. Be nice to meet some of the other members here. Working on the house so funds are tight. That will determine how many days we stay. Going to try and make it for at least Friday and Saturday. Seeing as how the days people are available vary maybe we should have the same central meet point for each day. That way everyone gets to meet someone. RSTDdog
  12. I'll have to check the dates and see if I can get some time off, otherwise I'm game to show up there for the weekend. Its about a 5-6 hour ride for me from Cape Coral if I back road it. is it easier to get rooms in October than in March?? Derrek
  13. bobistheoilguy.com is a really good website. I am sure this product and its pros and cons and well as its composition has been discussed there. If you are lubricant enthusiast, I caution you, you can spend a lot of time there. Lots of info on oil, filters, etc. rstddog
  14. I have been using the marine grade stabil in my bike. Its more money than regular stabil (go figure) says its specially formulated for use with ethanol and helps to reduce effects of water absorbtion in fuel due ot ethanol (according to the label). I use it at the storage rate (1 oz to 5 gallons) all the time. I have let the bike sit several weeks with no problems. Ethanol is a scam and that's all I got to say about that. RSTDdog
  15. Nice bike. Great price. How many miles? There's a 2000 MM with 25,000 miles on the Fort Myers Craigslist for $5900. You beat that by another 2 grand. No offense to the MM fans but your color is much nicer IMO. I like my RSTD, but I'm thinking about a Venture, more comfort and features. ddog
  16. I just picked up a set of mufflers for an Ultra Classic. Have the same thing you have. One muffler is almost empty with just a small baffle extending inward from the outlet side of the muffler 3-4". The other muffler has a long multiple offset baffle that goes all the way through and you can't see light through it. I have been examining the muffler with the long baffle to see if there is a way to get it all out. The flow will definitely be different between the two from the looks if you leave them as is. The Ultra Classic ( and RK) has a balance tube/collector between the head pipes up stream of the mufflers.I think its kind of a 2 into 1 into 2 system. You definitely don't want unbalanced mufflers on the yamaha. I paid $20 for mine on craigslist so I may carve into them for fun, or I may keep looking for a non cat set. Question for those with the non cat early type mufflers. Do they look identical inside Left and right? Thanks, ddog
  17. Has the bike been sitting any length of time?
  18. Running around with a weak battery will overload the charging system. Battery is way cheaper than a Stator...... I would buy one soon. RSTDdog
  19. I'd be up for going that weekend. No good for meeting to ride since I'm coming up from the south, but would like to meet with anyone from this group that plans on attending. RSTDdog
  20. 2005 and up Tour Deluxe get more HP (98) and have the electronic cruise control from the venture along with the hard saddlebags. Quick Detachable backrest and windshield are included ( I think these were bolt on accessories on the early models). Thats about all I can think of. ddog
  21. Got this from my brother via email and thought this was worth sharing. We are both "approaching the age", he's two years ahead of me so he gets to go first. The intermediate bit is part of the forwarded message from his brother-in-law that sent the article. In all seriousness, this procedure could save your life, meanwhile enjoy.... RSTDdog For those who have had their 50th birthday present from the medical community, this will be familiar… and for those who are looking forward to turning 50 soon – enjoy. This essay is almost as funny as the story of an acquaintance of mine who went through all of the very, shall we say, “inconvenient” aspects of preparing for the procedure only to find, upon arrival at the hospital, that it was the wrong day! This is from newshound Dave Barry's colonoscopy journal: I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly through Minneapolis . Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn't really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote, 'HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!' I left Andy's office with some written instructions, and a prescription for a product called 'MoviPrep,' which comes in a box large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of America 's enemies. I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous. Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn't eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder together in a one-literplastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes - and here I am being kind - like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon. The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, 'a loose, watery bowel movement may result.' This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground. MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don't want to be too graphic, here, but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything. And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not even eaten yet. After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only was I worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, 'What if I spurt on Andy?' How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked. Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was already lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their MoviPrep. At first I was ticked off that I hadn't thought of this is, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house. When everything was ready, Eddie wheeled me into the procedure room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I was seriously nervous at this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my hand. There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song was 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA. I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that could be playing during this particular procedure, 'Dancing Queen' had to be the least appropriate. 'You want me to turn it up?' said Andy, from somewhere behind me. 'Ha ha,' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading for more than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like. I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, ABBA was yelling 'Dancing Queen, feel the beat of the tambourine,' and the next moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very mellow mood. Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I felt excellent. I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that It was all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors. I have never been prouder of an internal organ. ABOUT THE WRITER Dave Barry is a Pulitzer Prize-winning humor columnist for the Miami Herald. On the subject of Colonoscopies... Colonoscopies are no joke, but these comments during the exam were quite humorous..... A physician claimed that the following are actual comments made by his patients (predominately male) while he was performing their colonoscopies: 1. 'Take it easy, Doc. You're boldly going where no man has gone before! 2. 'Find Amelia Earhart yet?' 3. 'Can you hear me NOW?' 4. 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?' 5. 'You know, in Arkansas , we're now legally married.' 6. 'Any sign of the trapped miners, Chief?' 7. 'You put your left hand in, you take your left hand out...' 8. 'Hey! Now I know how a Muppet feels!' 9. 'If your hand doesn't fit, you must quit! 10. 'Hey Doc, let me know if you find my dignity.' 11. 'You used to be an executive at Enron, didn't you?' And the best one of all. 12. 'Could you write a note for my wife saying that my head is not up there?'
  22. If that bike ends up bringing well over 4K, I better head to Daytona and pick up the 87 with 14k miles for 3750 on Clist I posted the link to( 3k cash would probably buy it) and relist it on ebay after a good wax and Polish.... Actually if I had the luxury and the money to have two bikes, I'd just keep it.
  23. Cool, Thanks! Found one for $25.00, just wanted to be sure. RSTDdog
  24. I thought I read somewhere that the the rear rack from the early Royal Star (1998) that mounts to the rear seat bolt and the license bracket would fit the RSTD but can't find the thread now. Could someone confirm that this works? I attached some photos of the rack for reference. Thanks! RSTDddog

Beer30, I don't know if Allegro has a model that you like, but my step son worked for them at the factory in Red Bay Alabama for seven years before moving down here (Allegro' s are mfg by Tiffen Motor Homes in Red Bay). Its a family owned company, and from the stories he has told me, the customer service is second to none. They have a dealer network, but They will also do service work on your coach right at the factory if your willing to drive it there( and a lot of people do). They even have a campground with free hook ups if you have to wait for service or parts. He had people that made Red Bay part of their annual Service stop in their travels. They "warranty " alot of things at the factory service shop, that may not normally get done at a dealer. Not trying to sound like a salesman, but if I were looking for MH, I would consider them just from what he has told me about the company and the family. If you have any specific questions, I'm sure he would talk to you about MH. RSTDdog
