I have to start driving 50 miles to get to work. I can no longer bring the company truck home. What kind of riding gear is the best for rain and also in the cold weather? A lot of people talk about the frogg toggs but the way the size chart looks they won't work for me. I'm 6' 2 and 190 pounds. My jean size is 34 x36 and it's hard to find that without them being to big in the waist. For anyone with advice on the cold weather what is the coldest you have used them in? Do you guys us your regular boots or is there a certain boot that you bought for cold? I have never ridden in cold weather so I'm not familiar with any of this. thanks tim

I might be coming down to the vial duct Saturday. It would be nice if someone could take us on some good riding roads or tell me how to get to them. Just PM me if you can meet up with me or if you can tell me where the good riding roads are. Thanks hairman:thumbsup:

I sure wish that someone close to me would have one of thes training sessions. I would definitely attend that one so I would know more about working on these motorcycles and could maybe help someone else down the road. I love the gauges, would like to have a set of those. thanks tim:thumbsup: -
I went out to carbtune my carbs. I got it tuned and noticed one of my carbs is leaking gas. I took them off and took the float bowl off the one that was leaking. The gasket was pinched into in four places. I know it will take a week or longer to get a new one in. My question is there anything I can put on the gasket to seal it until I get a new one in because of course it is suppose to be warm this week. thanks tim

I bought some brake pads to go on my motorcycle, but I don't need them right now. Do I need to lay them flat or hang them up in order to keep them from warping? Or would it be better to just take them back since I might not need them to next year? Thanks tim

06 Venture with a BANG! and a shriek...
hairman replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've done this alot myself. I have blew about 3 mufflers apart by doing this on a couple of trucks I had. But it's fun. Especially when a dog comes out chasing you. -
I might plan on making this one. If so do I need to mention Venture Riders when booking a room? Is everyone staying in a certain motel?

Here are the pictures of the spark plugs.

Wednesday after I checked the diaphrams I took the bike for a ride to check it out. I rode it like I stole it. It done good until it got real high rpms. It was sputtering and spitting, but when you change gears it would run good until you got high rprms again. Then it would start spitting and sputtering again. It did this thru all 4 gears. I got it up to 110 mph. I noticed that when you let up off the throttle and let it hold itself back for a while and then give it gas it spits and sputters. Then when you let off the gas again and grab a handful again most the time it takes off without spitting and sputtering. Today I took the battery out, the black box, the back coil, and cleaned them. I put it back together, took off again and it did real good. This time when you got high rpms and wouldn't spit and sputter. I went about 7 miles and it only acted up about 3 times. It did it once on high rpms and the next 2 times when it was holding itself back. Any advice. I'll post pictures of the plugs later. I put new plugs in it back in the winter, but I took them out and put new ones in on Wednesday.

I took the line off the fuel pump, put the end part of the fuel pump in a coffee can. It didn't take any time to fill it up. I suppose that means that it is good. I even took the diaphrams out and checked them by holding them up to a light and stretching them. All looks good there. Called the local dealer to see how much it would cost to redo the carb. and they said it would take about 6 hours to do it and $65.00 an hour. (approx. $400.00)That seems high to me. I don't know anyone local that does this. I would love to do it myself, but I don't know how to adjust the floats. I have took old tractors apart and cleaned them, but never adjusted the floats. Maybe Randy will read this and know someone in Johnson City that does them.

I have had a problem with my 1999 rsv for about a month now and can't figure out what to do. I first thought it was my fuel pump, but after I drained the carb bowls, the fuel pump worked fine. I have changed the fuel filter, plugs, checked for a vac. leak, I have even poured sea foam in a bowl and before I put the fuel filter on I sucked the sea foam thru to the carb. and let it soak for over 12 hours. I even carbtuned the carb. My problem is that the bike runs good about 1/4 to 3/4 throttle and above that it spits and sputters. It runs excellent for about the first mile when it is cold. Sometimes going down the road and you have 3/4 throttle it sputters and then it will take off and then it starts sputtering again. I even put a bypass key switch on it because I thought the key switch may be going bad. That didn't help either. I'm afraid it might be carb problems, but I am afraid to tear into it because I am a shade tree mechanic. I don't know anything about adjusting floats. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

I put the new clutch kit in mine. I love it. It feels like you can jerk the front wheel off the ground. I would advise you to buy 6 new bolts. I broke one of mine trying to put it back in. Sand your metal plates in your clutches ( like Freebird says in the clutch upgrade kit in the tech section).

The cable that hooks to your Garmin 2720 so that you can hear it thru your speakers, is it still available and if so what is it called? They have discontinued this type so I didn't know if it is still available. How exactly does it work? I have the cable already mounted to the back of the radio in the flaring. I was planning on buying the 2820 but if you can purchase a cable for the 2720 then I will just buy it instead because it is cheaper.

I'm not getting any power to the fuel pump. I hooked the wire from the battery to the fuel pump and it would run. It either has to be a fuse or the relay. The bike runs good about 35 to 40mph, but after that it starts to miss.

My 1999 RSV started missing the other day. I checked the plugs and I ran seafoam thru it. I checked the spark at the plugs. The fuel pump isn't clicking. It has been doing this ever since it started missing. Is there a fuse that goes to it and if so where is it located? Where is the relay to it and how do you check it? thanks tim

I haven't made up my mind yet if I'm going to go there or not. If I go I'm not going to go to Guntown Mountain, but will probably go to some of the caves and museums. I like to look at the older artifacts. Here is a website you can go on CavesLakesCorvettes.com I'll let you know if I decide to go.

Help I cannot hear a thing, 2nd Gen. Lost volume control
hairman replied to Busta's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Mine did this and the plug in underneath the passenger seat wasn't getting a good connection. I cleaned it real good with contact cleaner, blew it out with an air compressor, and put electrical grease in it. I haven't had any problems with it since. Hopefully this will solve your problem. -
Only 2 days left on this auction. Money needs to go to freebird and when he lets me know that he has received the money then I will ship it out. Winner will need to PM me your address and I will have it ready to ship out. thanks

The head of the bolt is molded into the rubber part of the seat. The bolt broke off flush with the head. I am going to have to get underneath the head of the bolt to try to pry it out. The first picture is the good bolt that is still there. The second picture is of the bolt that broke off.

I have a 1999 Yamaha RSV. I was thinking about knocking it out with a chisel and JB welding one back in place because it looks like it is molded in the seat. thanks
